I prefer the book, but the games trump the books every time :(

whatever's written first. Retconning is fine, but on a large scale, it's unacceptable.

The canon breaches Reach has made are so extreme though, it makes the rest of the story virtually impossible. Like how the Spartans would never have jumped out of PoA thanks to it landing. Making First Strike (and by extension Halo's 2 and 3), Ghosts of Onyx and the series around that area nonexistant. Everything revolved around the events hapening in the book Reach how it happened. Seriously, that book is a Bible for the centemporary universe.

So I don't even consider Reach canon until its compentantly explained by either Bungie or 343.

Ok thanks I get now.

  • 04.06.2011 2:14 PM PDT

Although most fans prefer the portrayal of the event in the book, the previous posts are accurate. Game canon > Novel canon... even though Bungie made the novel canon with the Halo Bible.

Game Canon > Book Canon.

Not when the books is more enjoyable than the game.

Book > Game.

What does that has to do with Canon? Seriously, Bungie/343i's word is over the word of any author of the Halo novels, if it's made directly by Bungie/343i then it overrides the other Canon.

It's just like Star Wars, G canon (Movies) override Book and game canon.

No, the only significant change is that the battle is now longer than it was in The Fall of Reach, and that is the only book affected by Halo: Reach, and even then it is not even a fourth of the book, it's like two, maybe three, chapters at the end that get affected. I would say read the book, then form your own opinion about whether you think the game and book match up or not. Take all the opinions you get on the matter with a grain of salt, mine included.

"Ignorance is a plague."

Close, but the plague killed those infected with it, and the ignorant are still alive.
I wish ignorance was a plague.

The games will always come first. Halo Reach is actually the highest level of canon, as it is the most recent game.

  • 04.06.2011 2:49 PM PDT

unfortunately game>book but i will never accept this and always ignore reach

  • 04.06.2011 2:58 PM PDT

An assassin will always carry on, even after death.

Game > book if people give up fighting for the book.

In my opinion the book is right and the game never happened

  • 04.06.2011 3:01 PM PDT

Head Down/ Chin Up!

I'm with the majority (unfortunatley)!

Games win over books!

Its a shame really, they could have EASILY worked around the book! But i could swear I read an interview with a Bungie/343 employee claiming that the novel "Fall of Reach" was very much seen as a "Microsoft" thing. Something to make money from.

And then you hear them say actually its canon - and as someone referenced above, it made its way into the Halo Bible.

And then they release the game and just messes it up for everyone, and then messes my head up too!

GRRRRRRRRRRR

Game Canon > Book Canon.

*sigh* when the games can eliminate gameplay additions, technological imperfections and not have the story created by fans wishes then yes. until then,no.

why should he believe in me?

OP think like this:

and that is how the canon goes

I will not justify the stupidity of this post with a legitimate argument.

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

What if the PoA landed after the Spartans jumped then picked up Chief and Linda during the escape?

In any case, Halo: Reach beats The Fall of Reach in terms of canon, though both can co-exist. Never really like TFoR, the book, anyway so it's no big deal for me.

Seriously Oak, Ive been doing this -blam!- for 16 years, gimmie my Friggen starter Pokemon and dont call me till im the champion! ¬_¬

Which number is Greater? 1 or 1?

There both key telling points of the Haloverse, both strong contributers, and to say one has priority over the other because its format makes no sense

Even if they dont fit perfectly side by side, most aspects in history dont either. many documents have inconsistancies with others for lets say... WW2, but we still know what happened, The Good Guys won!

And even for those plot holes, Any good storyteller can turn around and fill the gaps, even a simple "A Wizard did it"

the fact that you said that "The Good Guys won" destroys any legitimacy of your arguement
