Subject: Is a host-ban also tied to your account/GT?

Yeah I recovered my old account on my new Xbox and experienced the same connection quality as on my old box (ie. bad. It was a used Xbox from someone who must have played on dialup or something.) Needless to say I wasn't pulling host.

So I made a new account on the new Xbox and it pulled host consistently like a new Xbox should.

This leads me to believe that a host ban is tied in some way to your Gamertag. I keep reading otherwise though..

Your insights? Experiences? Affirmations?

I'd like to play on my old account with a good connection but it seems I can't.

I'm sorry America is busy helping others in the world and actually making a difference.

Something Canada will never do.

Host bans apply to the Xbox and account that was host banned. On the new Xbox, you will need to make a new account.

Your old account is doomed in terms of getting host. Sorry.

  • 04.06.2011 4:55 PM PDT

Don't be sorry. I just wanted confirmation. I keep reading everywhere that it is the box that is banned not the account.

So every new account I start on my old Xbox will be tainted? What if I bring the account on my new Xbox over to the old one, will it be infected as well?

It's tied to the Xbox not the account. You can use you're original gamertag on the new xbox and get host.

No you can't.

Host bans are applied to the GT involved if it's due to something like Standbying. If it's just for having a bad host record, then it's the Xbox. I know that the account gets host banned the for the aforementioned scenario.

I recovered my account onto a friends Xbox, he got host every game. I used a new account, we swapped host every game. I was host banned for standbying.

What is your proof of this? My experience and Mike Hunttt say otherwise.

I got a new xbox last weekend and I'm using the same account and I'm getting host with it. How am I getting host if I'm using the same account?

  • 04.06.2011 5:36 PM PDT

I never implemented any kind of net manipulation on my old account, yet it seems to be host banned..

Were you host banned for standbying or just for having a terrible host record?

Also, host bans can expire. I know someone who was host banned for about a year, and then he started pulling host again. He was pulling host every game, then just stopped for a year, then started pulling host again every game. He made new accounts on his xbox and he got host (while his other one wasn't).

So, I don't know exactly how to explain it, but accounts can get host banned, or at least it very much seems like that. I am of course talking out of my arse, but I'm fairly sure on what I am saying.

The other team just probably has a better host record than you. Try going in alone in doubles with you're original gamertag to get your record up.

I kept getting hit and it messed up my record. But I got a new xbox and I get host again.

Nah as soon as I switch to the new tag I created on the new box I pull host religiously.

Hrmmm, well I'm sure that accounts can get host banned, but obviously it doesn't apply to all host bans. Or maybe, your host ban expired.. As I said, I'm not 100% sure.. We'd need an Employee to confirm. I will PM A-crow-nose soon.

It's weird on my host-banned account, it will get host every once in a blue moon, but everyone is red or yellow. And then it doesn't give me host again for another blue moon.

The pings of these people on my host really don't reflect my networking conditions at all, so I'm led to believe this is also part of the host-ban system. Occam's razor would disagree. I mean, if they're host banning the Xbox' Mac address and don't have any intentions of giving that Xbox host ever again, then why do you get host every now and then only for it to automatically give you bad host feedback like that? Is it something within the system to make sure your ban is renewed? I believe I read in another thread on here, someone experience the exact phenomenon I am.

I find it really strange, my connection is rock-solid. I pull host almost 100% of the time in Reach on my old box. And on my new box I pull it in Halo 3.

So I'm just like WTF mate. Why can't Bungie just explain how the damn system works so people can take the necessary action to better matchmaking conditions for everyone.

I dunno why it would do that.

I know I'm host banned, but every few months I'll pull host and keep it for about 30 seconds into the game and then it will change. It's annoying.

  • 04.06.2011 6:49 PM PDT

Is everyone red or yellow bar for you? Hmm. I get it for the whole game and maybe a game after that then not for next 100 games or so.

But my old box always grabs host in Customs no matter where the people I play are from.

That doesn't make sense. Unless Customs are a separate host record.

I'm the best connection in Theatre as well.

1. Host bans are applied to the account, and the console.

2. Host bans are always permanent.

have a nice day.

Nope no one is red bar for me. Always green bar and then it changes. Or I get it in the pregame lobby and it changes after I veto.

I get host in customs a lot.

I am usually lobby host.
