If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

Read Fall of Reach, First Strike, Ghost of Onyx.

That's all you ever need.

:)

Contact Harvest is a great insight to the start of the war but the books above are truly fantastic and are a blast to read.

Anything else, not so much.
This is just my opinion.

I agree completely. I read the Nylund novels twice.

However, haven't those novels been considerably rewritten to accommodate Reach's ridiculous retcons?

Agreed.
Though some stories in Halo Evolutions are pretty good as well, especially "The Mona Lisa". Gives some insight into ONI and the flood, and you can't beat Henry the Elite with a cricket bat!

It's best to read all the books OP, that way you get a full insight into the Halo universe.

You could probably go with either Cole Protocol or The Fall of Reach, or you could do it simultaneously :P

Your doing it in the order that I did. That's the best order.

Contact Harvest
The Cole Protocol
The Fall of Reach
The Flood
First Strike
Ghosts of Onyx

I haven't read Cryptum yet.

If by "considerably rewritten" you mean a few numbers changed, then yes. Overall they are the same books. Oh, and Cole Protocol is really an unnecessary read. The Flood isn't too bad.

I second that. The book was so descriptive, I could literally see the battle of the Capitol in my head like I was watching a movie.

Plus, it'll simply change your view of Halo.

Yeah the retcons don't change enough to cater to Reach. and I agree: The Cole Protocol is somewhat unnecessary, however, I do love the portions about Keyes. I think The Flood was more unnecessary. They should have followed everyone but the chief in that book. The parts that werent shown in the game were the best parts. I think the whole book should have been like that.
