Subject: There WERE super MAC cannons in Reach!

I reckon the Reach defence co-ordinators were complacent. Knowing there were 20 super MAC's in orbit, as well as defence fleets, must have filled them with confidence.

Considering the biggest fleet the UNSC had encountered up until the Fall of Reach was not even over 100 enemy ships they probably thought the 20 cannons would have been enough.

Bet when 700 or so enemy ships showed up there was a lot of "told you so's" follwed by some hasty bag/pant packing.

Only 340 ships arrived, not 700, this has been shot down several times.

Although overall the Covenant had over 1,000 ships before Reach fell. 340 on the attack force for Reach, 300 orbiting the Unyielding Hierophant, and probably a few hundred more orbiting High Charity, the Covenant were massive. Although 1/3 of the Fleet over Reach was destroyed, and all ships orbiting Unyielding Hierophant were vaporized so 400 ships were destroyed in a matter of a few weeks.

The Covenant were left with around 500+ ships a few days before Halo 2, while Earth had 300 SMAC's and only about 100 ships. The Covenant took down 2 SMAC's, all it took and it made a hole in the defense of Earth and pushed through, Regrets fleet damaged the Home fleet, Truth's fleet finished the job.

They were so stupid, once the great schism happened, the Covenant pretty much cut their fleet in half, so prior to the battle of the Ark, Truth had at most 300 ships, once he betrayed the Elites, he still outnumbered the Elites, although he lost the great shipmasters that are the reason the Covenant got so far in the war.

After this, the Covenant seperatists were at a strength of at most 150 ships, the Elites, having only a third of this size, mopped the floor with them.

It's like Leonidas said "Numbers mean nothing."

To the guy who was quoted I apologize, this went a little too far. XD

Well, they aren't confirmed, these are all assumptions the Wiki and the books imply. We have no true number on the count of them aside from the attack force and those orbiting the Unyielding Hierophant. Although on what I have gathered, mine would be the best bet.

We know that SMAC ODPs were at Reach but apparently there were only 20 compared to the hundreds at Earth (which is utterly bizarre). Still seeing a SMAC in the Campaign, even if it was wreckage, would have sorted out this glaring missing part. I immediately was puzzled by the lack of Reach SMACs, but then thats the Reach Campaign for you.

No SMACs, no Defense Fleet, just a few Frigates. Very weird.

Prioritization, they wanted the max protection for the literal billions of people compared to a few hundred million or so.

Earth was a population center, Reach was not.

Yes I understand that. Reach was the military stronghold, but defended by a paltry 20 ODPs. Call me crazy but if I was in the UNSC I would probably advise them to build more than 20 to defend such a critical planet.

More ODPs were made for Earth after Reach fell, before it probably would have been enough to fend off any attack by Insurrectionists or other human battle groups, but they wouldn't have known 20 would be too few to stop the Covenant, they found that out after Reach fell, hence why Earth got a -blam!- load more than was originally planned.

I couldn't imagine a fleet of macs being built in a couple of months. The sheer scale of them would take longer then a couple of months to create.

Earth was always going to be well defended. It's dissapointing that reach was such a military planet yet had -blam!- all defences. Yet 22 mac guns did -blam!- -blam!- up. Would love to see how big the covenant fleet was to be able to crack earths defences.

Well I don't know how many SMACs were built after Reach fell, that's why I said ODPs, which aren't all SMACs, a SMAC is an ODP, but it's not the only type.

I don't think Earth was really all that overrun, the Covenant mostly concentrated their forces in East Africa, so wherever else they went they probably merely just punched holes in the defense grid of ODPs and destroyed whatever ships got in their way.

Ok, first off, the Covie fleet at Reach was changed to 700 ships in the Re-print of TFoR.

Regarding the concentration of Truth's forces, in GoO, they make it seem like earth is under attack everywhere. Not to mention, Australia was completely wiped of the face of the Earth because it was producing new weapons, and experimental technology.

1. we should be able to see the MACs in space and the elevators on the ground.

2. on the LNoS you couldn't see UNSC stations anywhere in any direction, then when they go to the other side of the planet you still don't see anything in ether direction.

3. you can't jam MACs...

4. When was that stated? and that was far too weak of damage for it to be a orbital mac unless it came from a ship. Even then it wouldn't be clean like that and leave no damage to the surface of the planet.

If you read halo fall of reach the super macs destroy many cov. ships in the first wave but elite strike teams take out most of the genorators.
