During the battle of Thermopylae only a hundred spartans held off thousands as the people of Athens evacuated by ship. The spartans held the Persians long enough for the evacuation to take place.

To me this sounds like the part in the Fall of Reach where the Spartan II's had to protect the generators from the covenant. While they did that the Pillar of Autumn with the Chief aboard escaped to Halo where they stood their ground.

To me these to stories sound similar, not exact of course.

I think that was the point. There are tons of mythological similarities in Halo.

Technically, there were 300 Spartans at the battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C. Also, Conan, it is a real historical battle, not a mythological one.

The powers that be at Bungie have long shown an interest in this particular battle. Marathon, Myth: The Fallen Lords, and Halo all draw inspiration from it.

Yeah, I guess I didn't really think clearly on that one. What I meant was that it was like a rehashed story. Mythological wasn't the best choice of words, I suppose. I was also referring to all of the biblical similarities, which may or may not be considered myth. I did not know about the other Bungie games, though. That's cool.

Yeah, just about all of their games will be. They like to have a play as a hero, and part of that entails taking on a lot of guys. Basically, Thermopylae is about super soldiers fighting incredible odds, which is what Bungie likes to do. And here is something interesting: Persian scouts watching the Greeks that were blocking the pass near Thermopylae saw the Greeks were combing their hair. Yeah, they are about to fight a huge force, and they are combing their hair.

No soldier should be honored for doing what is expected
of him. He is after all, just doing his job.

Well guys, the Autumn Ran for it because the Spartans on the ground told them to, but still yeah, it's like that battle thing.
