Better question, why did the forerunners go to war against the precursors?

It was ASSUMED they were trans-sentient, when in reality, the forerunners (apparently) killed them all.

Thats another good point. How do we know that the prisoner wasn't lying? I mean, why should we trust that it is indeed a precursor, and that it is indeed the last of their species?

It is assumed that they were something that we don't even know what it means, but since they were killed they obviously can't be that undefined thing.

the halos were what we would consider a neural weapon it affects the minds of sentient species which even for the precurcors means death unless they have some sort of shielding against it so that "could" explain the precurcors demise as for their structures going away we know that these building were very tough and neural weapon mentioned in the book could refer to something that affects these building on a molecular level using something similar to brain waves

Covenant > Humanity > Flood > Forerunner > Precursors

Yet Flood > Covenant < Forerunner < Humanity

War is a fickle thing, the odds are always changing.

TL;DR: Big guns?

Transsentient beings can survive a Halo ring blast, assuming the prisoner really is a precursor.

Regardless,the prisoner did survived it.

Humanity defeated the Covenant and they were 1 or 2 levels below them. Perhaps the species was reaching extinction from a previous war/wars.

Humans never defeated the Covenant by themselfs, not only were they lucky because the civil war,but they were saved by the Elites. And the flood screwed some things up as well

bingo! the Precursor 'cell' and everything else was simply wiped, as though it never existed and the prison survived, somehow immune to the effect, problem is in new book someone hints that maybe the ring can do more than just total neural obliteration, not sure but it might have been main characters father, hinting that he designed the rings and that they had been 'twisted' to some end that they weren't intended.

the rings work by emitting some sort of pulse right? whose to say that they can't be dialled (like the super-weapon in Stargate, on Dakara.) to emit other sorts of pulses, that have other effects, either way Didict describes it as an awful side effect of whatever weapon the Halo arrays use. my biggest guess is it is beyond comprehension, intentionally written into the Halo story that way, how better to not have to explain something then to just say it is by definition impossible for us to understand.

tell you what though, after reading through Cryptum the Forerunner seem peculiar on a technological level, on one hand capable of creating weapons of mass destruction so grand they can affect the entire galaxy, on the other hand ships of theirs being destroyed by mere humans. the Ancients in Stargate have a similar continuity problem in their respective story arc, they are beyond advanced yet seem quite backward in a lot of ways, on one hand their shield technology seems absolutely impossible to defeat, on the other hand they loose a war with the Wraith, who are hugely outmatched technologically.

Maybe Precursors had Bio-Mechanical structures like what reapers are made of.

Quite possibly.

Are you talking about the ancient Humans?Because those Humans are at the level of the Forerunners.

But i don't understand your point?

Except that the humans were technologically equaled with the Forerunners.....

Gotta think things through before you post.

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

They used precuror tech against precursors, don't see how that is hard to understand
