What?
Well, Spartans have the planet eater.
Remember?

The nuclear bomb that apparently ate over half of the planet by Whitcomb?

That would kill everyone. Even your own men. That's not good.

Well, so does both side's orbital bombardment.

You've got nukes.
We have planet eaters, and giant tunsten shells.

Yeah...
We don't even need the planet eater to blow up the entire planet.

The orbital strike nukes don't emit as great a fallout as actual nukes. And it's not even a planet eater. It's a Nova Bomb, and it didn't blow a planet apart ever, just did huge damage to it.

THERE WE GO!
Nova bomb, that's what I was looking for!

I'm pretty sure the book and also a poster in the forum said that the planet was damned screwed, and a blast that bad would eradicate all surface life in a matter of weeks, think about it yourself.

The bomb was detonated in orbit. If it was detonated on the planet, yeah, everything would be screwed probably. But none of the fallout had reached to the planet's surface, thus preventing that from happening. It was more the force of the blast is what did it.

do know Longsword fighter/bombers are the size of modern day stealth bombers right? and they can seriously haul ass, they have enough power to break orbit so would put there maximum atmospheric speed well supersonic, maybe even hypersonic, plus its worth saying they might not even be detectable to radar, look at their shape, very similar to modern stealth planes. the orbital platforms wouldn't be a problem, since they would be the primary target of orbiting Frigates and Longsword bombers. fair enough, what exactly is going to smoke a 478 metre long Frigate, never seen anything in the Fallout universe that would be able to do that? locate all defensive batteries around your landing destination and obliterate them all from orbit using Archer missiles, hell I think an Archer is more than a match for most planet-side defences and the ships possess hundreds, sometimes thousands of them!

could also bring Prowlers into the debate, for taking out orbital platforms using HORNET mines, not like the orbital platforms would cause them much trouble to be honest. could also use drones to attack land based targets, can never remember what they are called. wouldn't be worried about Power Armour either, especially with Gauss Hogs in the field since they have long long range and serious stopping power.

Anti-air guns do exist, you know. They could take down the Longswords and other fighters as well, it's not too difficult. And as I said before, the orbital platforms can destory pretty much anything that moves, unlike MAC guns, where the projectile is unalterable after firing. Plus, if that fails, remember those huge-ass guns that you blew up in Anchorage? Yeah, those were American weapons captured by the Chinese, I believe. Those would rip a hole right through a cruiser.

Also, Archer missiles aren't meant to be fired from orbit.

A SAM cannot take out a Longsword. Those fighters--in order to break atmosphere--must be traveling at least 5 miles per second. No SAM site can do that

But think, that's modern SAM sites. We have no idea what a SAM site is capable of in the Fallout universe.

Were the Americans planning to shoot down starfighters?

American weaponry counters current day weaponry. SAMs were built to destroy modern air jets, not starfighters.

There's an over-the-shoulder nuclear bomb catapult.

I'm pretty sure that a laser-shooting SAM turret isn't too far from believability.(Removed quote tag due to 5+

Longswords have good stealth capabilities, noting the sleek designs, and also, these longswords have impressive armor.

True.

I'll just leave it at that.

I have lost interest.

I cast Great War.

It's super effective.

Considering Mr. House in New Vegas had a anti missile defense system that shot down about 60 nukes aimed at Nevada america fallout shouldn't have much of a problem whenever the longswords are in atmosphere.

People keep bringing up spartans like every soldier in the UNSC was one. Even in this scenario spartans would be rare. Wherever there wouldn't be spartans UNSC might lose ground to the much more common T-51's and soldiers with plasma and laser weaponry.

Still, the UNSC ground forces were said to be capable enough to hold there own against the covenant so even without spartans the UNSC Army and Marines would put up a hell of a fight. I say this one is too close to call.

Okay, factor in this. How common are Spartan's in Halo? Chief as of the games is the only available combat spartan available. A small squad of UNSC marines is not comparable to the Fallout US Army. Almost all of them have advanced combat armor (T-51). It is penetrable by bullets but the UNSC Marine armor couldn't hold up to say Plasma weapons, laser weapons, regular firearms, Mini-Nukes, ect.

So lets talk Spartan III :)

Indeed, the Spartan IIIs can all wear MJOLNIR.

And Pre-Covenant war puts us at 930 Spartan IIIs!

That's wrong. Like, completely. Spartan III's didn't even exist until the Human-Covenant war began. And if I remember, there were roughly 300 of them.

MAC guns on Frigates snipe the nuke platforms while launching their own missiles to intercept the nukes that have been launched. Orbital bombardment commences, while troop and firebase deployment occurs all over the planet, usually in low/medium risk areas first.

problem is though, MAC won't miss, not at the ranges we are talking about here, from even high orbit to ground will be seconds from leaving the barrel to impact. also don't see why an Archer couldn't double up as a ground attack weapon, its a missile and missiles go where they are told, be it an enemy warship or a bunker, makes no difference to the missile.

also what defensive systems in Fallout will either A) be capable of 'putting a hole' in a Cruiser and B) capable of shooting down a Frigate or even a Longsword for that matter? doesn't really match anything I have ever seen in the Fallout Universe?

Have you actually played Operation: Anchorage? Those guns fired meter-wide shells, at least. A cruiser couldn't handle much of that. And the SAM turrets are likely energy weapon reliant, considering that nearly every anti-personel turret is energy-based.

I'm getting this mental image of fallout universe.

*World is devastated by nuclear warfare.*

Soldier: "Herpderp, lets use MORE NUKES and screw the planet up EVEN MORE!"

Back on topic, I kinda like the fallout side's statements.

"I'm fairly sure that an item not shown in fallout games can magically be made and stop longswords."

And, you know, saying that a massive HEV strike of Spartans and ODSTs is no problem at all. Or a MAC strike from a frigate/destroyer aimed at the American Military HQ centers and nuke storehouses.

Edit: Again, I'm fairly sure no Spartan has even been killed by a single plasma pistol burst.

One was trapped on a dying ship due to an overcharge shot breaching his armor. Linda was disabled because she got hit in the back of the head by an overcharge plasma pistol shot, then hit by others.

The two universes are quite quite different. On one hand we have a serious hard scifi future setting with the Halo universe, and on the other hand we have a retro 1950s alternate future with retro style computers and clunky robots. Comparing the two, while fun, can not be done seriously. May as well compare Star Wars to Lord of the Rings and ask the same question.

I mean come on... Fallout has a gone that fires trash!

These threads are so pointless. It's always a bunch of mindless ramble involving weapons and armor, until both sides get angry and mention each sides largest nuclear weapons or devastating events.

Every. Single. Time. Also, this is more of a Flood thread anyways.

On a side note, Great War, NOVA Bomb, the Flood, Halo Rings, Super MACs, Glassing. Experimental MIRV, SAMs, Mobile Base Crawler, Orbital Satellites.

I still give it to the UNSC, simply because limiting what either side can do gives an advantage to the other side, therefore I am ignoring this rule as it is designed to let FA win.

We also have to remember that Spartans, versus the covenant won every single ground based battle they engaged in, even when outnumbered thousands to one.
Not to mention the UNSC ground forces held their own against elites and brutes in combat despite being out-matched in every way.

-Frigates destroy Fallout (FA) orbital assets.
-Frigates engage known military bases with MAC strikes, rendering a significant portion of air defenses inoperable.
-Longswords deploy, being a significant advancement over any aircraft the US have seen up to that point they operate with relative inpunity, losing only a dozen to AA fire. Nuclear and conventional strikes on political and remaining military installations ensue.
-Spartans, ODSTs and Army Pathfinders deploy from high orbit, targetting known power-armour and robot units and factories. Losses are high but the mission is achieved. The battle rifles superior ballistics win the day.
-With mostly only conventional forces to contend with the UNSC deploys it's forces en masse in a gruelling 2 year campaign that sees the US military decimated and occupation begins.
The UNSC losses a staggering 20% of their deployed forces, including 3 Spartan IIs, countless IIIs, ODSTs and Pathfinders.

This is how i see it playing out, of course I don't hold 40-60's technology in high regard when faced with the might of 26th century UNSC. My opinion ftw!

Spartans never die... they just revert to last checkpoint.

USARMY. Much of the UNSCs tech is more primitive than what we have in present reality.

The guy who wants too much risks losing absolutely everything. Of course, the guy who wants too little from life might not get anything at all.

(XBL name = iiHaveAProblem)

UNSC is much more into the future and their tech advanced so they will most likely win. The only way I can see America winning is if they find a way to mass produce T-51b power armor and nukes. Otherwise, UNSC will both outnumber them plus have more tech to use.

Wrong. Use Search and find any of my posts on this matter, while I too once believed as you do, some simple calculations and disregarding of "facts" given to us by people who know nout about military technology shows that the UNSC arsenel would tear through anything we have today with ease.

The exception being the Scorpion, which while incredibily resistant to fire, doesn't seem to be able to return that fire.
