Subject: Why didn't the Arbiter fight Humans in H2?

Am I the inly one who, when I finished the campaign in Halo 2, thought it was a huge cop-out on Bungie's part that as the Arbiter you never fought Humans. I thought the Arbiter and his eventual joining forces with the UNSC if players started out hating him. As it is they try to paint him as some tragic figure, who lost his honour and accepted s suicide mission in some heroic attempt to regain it.

Isn't that what becoming the Arbiter is about?

The sangheili had discovered the Profits were false on their predictions of the use of the Halo Array after the Arbiter had a little sit down with Gravemind and Cheif. Also Guiltyspark was the one who let the cat out of the bag. So after that the Elites had figured, "Hey, the humans are fighting the same battle so why not work together?"

I get that, it just seems to me that Bungie tried too hard to make him a sympathetic figure, instead of what he really was; a monster with the blood of thousands on his hands. It's like what Hood said at the end of Halo 3: "I remember how this was started, what your kind did to mine. I can never forgive you."

I always though he would have been a more interesting character if players had started out hating him, then gradually grew to respect him. It would also make his working with the Chief have more impact.

Can't the same be said about Whitcomb?

  • 04.10.2011 5:33 PM PDT

If the Covenant had never attacked humanity would Whitcomb have the blood on his hands? We didn't start this war, but we damn well mean to win it.

Have you seen my mind anywhere? I seem to have lost it...

0x0 x0x 0x0 000 000 x0x 000
x0x 0x0 0x0 0xx 000 0x0 000
x0x x0x x00 0xx 0x0 x0x 0x0

I have seen you future

Throughout the Halo series it has always seemed that Bungie doesn't want people to shoot at other humans (Spartans don't count as they don't have faces). This could be a moral decision on Bungie's part or pure coincidence.

It seems less like a coincidence since they went out of their way to have you fight heretic Covenant instead of humans as the loyalist Arbiter.

Murdering civilians that have nothing to do with it?

War is all relative. Sangheili, Kig-Yar, Unggoy, etc. civilians are just as innocent as Human civilians.

That's what I meant when I said Bungie copped out.

  • 04.10.2011 5:41 PM PDT

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Bungie didn't think they could get away with slaughtering humans in game and still have it be the "family-friendly," game it is.

What civilians did Whitcomb murder? The way I see it they were all part of a system devoted to the extermination of humanity, and that makes them a viable target. Like I asked before, would they have been dead if they hadn't attacked first?

It's the military that actively destroys humanity, not the civilians.

It wasn't just factories or ships that got destroyed, but a whole freaken colony along with its moon. The fact that the Sangheili fleet was amassing there points to it being highly populated as well.

I'm not saying that the Covenant was in the right, but from a neutral perspective, Whitcomb was just as much of a monster as Thel was.

An Eye for an Eye makes the whole Galaxy blind.

The NOVA wouldn't have killed anyone if A) the Covenant had never stolen it in the first place and B), they never attacked us. It would also help if they kept the damn fingers out of things they don't understand!

Two wrongs don't make a right, but they do even the score.

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

Because he lost his right to.
"I will continue my campaign against the humans."
"No. You will not." - Thel and Truth

  • 04.10.2011 6:14 PM PDT

"Find where the liar hides, so that I may place my boot between his gums!" - Rtas 'Vadum

Regardless of whether Whitcomb had blood on his hands or not does not change the fact about the Arbiter.

It also serves no justification for the Arbiter. Thel is what he is and that is it.

You were totally and absolutely correct in every way, I don't know why we were arguing, you're so amazing I should never have doubted you.

Thel was at least noble; the Prophet of Truth is the one who can't be forgiven.

How is he noble? He burns helpless people from orbit.

Misguided nobility exists. One doesn't have to be evil to be an evildoer.
Also, I'm more inclined to forgive Thel because he's seriously got a nice ass.

I have no idea what to make of this...

Just remember to use protection. An M90 will probably do.

Industrial birthing lubricant would probably be the only way to survive. Totally worth it though.
I wonder what kind of courting rituals the Sangheili have. :3

I can only hope that by 2552 they have invented some sort of frictionless coating you can apply.

And whatever you do, NO TONGUE! have you seen his teeth?

It's a metaphor for the 07s' lack of identity. too old to be newfag, yet too new to be oldfag, we wander b.net in search of a home, forever trying to be something we are not.

He didn't fight the humans because he failed miserably at that task when he allowed the Chief to destroy installation 04. So instead of being put to death the Prophets decided to make use of his talents and used him to defeat the heretic group and then to retrieve the Index.

I have a feeling that when driving the Spectre those people in the warthog were humans.

Anyhow, Sangheili seem like the type to be on top.
