Let me first say that I would love to see a film or three of this game series come to life on the big screen. What better way to bring all those late night beer guzzling frag fests to life than to see the Master Chief on the big screen. Stan Lee, the creator of Spider Man, once had said that the allure of Peter Parker was that everyone out there can associate with him and that's makes him more believable to poeple. Now how many people have played Halo and not actually yelled out triumphantly when they made that most perfect of sniper shots, or laughed hysterically when they snuck up on an opponent to K.O. him with what my freinds and I in Davenport IA. (props for you boys) like to call the "-blam!- slap" button. There would be no great leap in living out the movie vicariously through the siver screen, and this makes Halo potentially the greatest prospect for a feature film out there.
Now then, a few snags are definitely in the way of seeing our dreams materialized. To do the game storyline any justice Bungie would have to be signed on as top consultant and with a very large budget. Mayhaps microsoft or the main man with the golden touch (Mr. Gates himself) could pony up for an instant PG-13 to R rated underground hit (the game is rated Mature), but again I think that in the interests of keeping the grail holy, as a series is evidently the best option, perhaps a computer generated film much the way final fantasy was made with real world spliced in would be the most accurate.
If memory serves, it took the better part of 3 years to film the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Bungie's already laid the skeleton groundwork CG for it, and no matter how good you think it looks in a picture, those 4 or 500 dollar Mjolnir suits for sale are harldy what it would take to make a film as engrossing as the games. Besides it's a fine line and a very large budget between a Halo epic and a bunch of Battle star Galactica looking trick or treaters running around puttin the whup ass on a bunch of Ewoks. You'd want to do it right the first time. The good news is that after this Mega smash hit unleashes itself upon the world and Video games perhaps are given the first ever Oscar in the new catagory, the backing and the money made just might be ripe for a push towards silver screen history.
