Could they have won without the aid of the Sangheili? I think it's possible. If humanity had been unified and not waging a war against itself when the Human-Covenant War began, we would have been much more efficient and better able to repress them. They might have even pushed the Covenant back far enough to end the war.

On the other hand, if humanity hadn't been so busy trying to kill each other, there would have been no need for the massive military build up that was taking place just prior to the outbreak of the human-Covenant war.

One of the short stories in Halo Evolutions stated that it was fighting each other that allowed us to develop the tactics and skills required for space warfare. The outbreak of the war did for all intents and purposes unite humanity, only a few small groups continued to resist.

Damn, that's a good point. Never thought about that.

I'm not sure what you're looking for.

Possibly. Perhaps some of the children they killed would be Spartans, and some adult wonderful leaders.

Yup. The Insurrection was the whole reason why Humanity was as organised as it was when the Covenant came knocking. It was the reason for the existence of the eugenics programs of ORION and SPARTAN-II. The Data pads reveal that even the ODST were based on ORION training regimes. Humanity were not ready for a cross system war before the Insurrection. They were really only focusing on colonisation up until that point.

I'm with this guy, without the rebels popping up (how that would not happen, no clue seeing as they appeared for the same reason the US rebelled against Britain) humanity wouldn't have had the military build-up of ships and ground forces.

Also, the spartan program wouldn't have happened, if anything it'd have to had started after Harvest, taking away a major advantage the UNSC had ground-side.

Entirely possible, I'm just saying that with out the Insurrection the UNSC wouldn't have had the numbers of ships and troops that they did. Hell, without the insurrection there wouldn't have been any Spartans.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't mean to copy everyone else, they all chimed in while I was typing.

They would not even have the original spartan IIs, which were developed to combat innies.

Let's get it own!

Yeah I think case closed. Could you imagine if they attacked us right now? US+Japan+Tali Ban+Everyone in the world all united for our survival. That would be great.....and horrible at the same time.

That's the way I've always seen it. And I think the story is The Impossible Life and Possible Death of Preston j. Cole.

Plus, no Insurrection, no Spartans.

I was pretty sure that was the story but I didn't want to type all of that out:)
