It happens to other people...you just don't see it. And a possible reason for this is that there are too many of the same threads circulating...plus it is dumb as you said. So why not delete it?

Perhaps its exceptionally dumb? Maybe you should just try not to make anymore dumb topics? That might help....

Best plan I have ever read...

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

I think the mods Should PM the makers of threads when they are deleted telling them why to prevent a "WHY was my thread deleted." Thread.

Well when I was banned a week ago for being in a stupid thread...I got notified and my posts were deleted. And the fact is...they don't have to tell you. It is your fault for posting non-relevant material to the Forum.

No doubt

But when they dont tell the poster I sometimes see a new thread flamming the mods about there thread being deleted.

True...but that is the point that the users is permabanned and lives his/her life in cold bitter coldness. The smart user would just go on...so in my mind. It is the Karma thing.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

Well the politeness is not lost on me. Also if the mod makes a PM to the poster you run the risk of the poster spamming the mod out of spite. Then the mod has to deal with that and then blacklist the offender. Sometimes it is better to go unseen and unheard. Kinda like a ninja....who would have thought?

I agree that the mods shouldn't have to pm anyone. If someone doesn't know why the thread is deleted they can read the rules or pm a mod themselves.

It'd be nice to have an automatic system in place where a notification would be sent to the user when they have had a thread deleted or moved, that'd be very easy on us Moderators...

As for deletion I know when I see a forum filling up with locked topics things tend to get deleted, so sometimes that is the culprit.

Yeah so people wouldnt be confused and create the same thread again when they didnt know it was actually deleted.

And the thread they deleted was a Chuck Norris thread I dont see why since there like hundreds of other topics like that.

would it be that hard to have a small form on the side with 2 fields, "Action"; a small button or drop-down menu that has all the possible options on it for a thread, and "Reason"; where you fill in a small note that automatically PMs the author as to why their thread was deleted.

Something tells me that the people that made this site long before thought locked or deleted threads would be extremely rare but this is what has happen.

That's true, rarely were users banned from Bungie and threads removed before the website was re-launched. Bungie.net used to be peaceful place for people to chat, vote in polls and have a good time... now you have the elite guard of Moderators killing everyone in sight.... gg kthx... You don't say?

I determine whether to delete a thread or lock a thread by the number of replies in the thread when I decide to take action. If I catch a thread with no replies (or just a couple of responses that are nonsense), I PM the originator telling him that I deleted the thread and why I deleted it. If I lock a thread, I usually reply to the thread saying why I locked it or edit a post saying why it is being locked (if a person bumped a thread, I edit the "bumped" reply saying it is locked for bumping; if it is off topic for the forum, I edit the first post saying it is off topic). The only times I don't bother replying to a thread to say why it is locked is when another member notes the reason it is breaking a rule.

Well, I guess I took a little tangent there...
