True Frankie said that they would continue chiefs story, but that fact that the eulogy took place on a re-terraformed reach proves that Halsey made it off of onyx with out Chief.

First off how could she make it off onyx without chief if chief wasn't even on Onyx?

second all that means is he wasn't found by 2610 even then his "death" is seen as a sacrifice in exchange for winning the war, so even if they did find he they wouldn't publicly say they found chief. And it was never said he was dead nor that he is chief is one of the view spartans that are actually MIA.

It was never stated nor implied that he was outside of the galaxy. the way cortana said "Its going to take years for them to find us" Suggest that they aren't really that far gone.

Damn, They are in the galaxy still..

Maybe Reach healed naturally? In one of the evolutions stories I believe the Elite, as walking across the dead planet, found signs it was coming back.

Anyway, why would chief die inside of Cryotube? (Containment cell wha?) and seeing as Cortana was on the path to meta-stability...

I Know Bungie's Secret... Shhhhhhh...

What would happen if the ship crashed? I doubt he would survive it...

1. we don't know if the ship crashes or gets stuck in orbit

2. people survive car, plane, train, and ship crashes; this is much different

He isnt dead, I make a Space Ship, I find him in a secret Galaxy, and now he is on my house

He's trapped in dark space, ergo in the middle of literary nowhere. He's incomprehendably far away from our galaxy and heading over there to pick him up like on a regular tuesday is NOT going to happen. The little piece of titanium he and Cortana resides in doesn't have unlimited power and all the energy it gets is EM-radiation from other galaxies. He's stuck in a damaged cryo chamber with a soon-to-be rampant A.I. in near zero temperature.
Bungie was clever to end it like this, making a real nut for 343 on how to continue Chief's story. BUT they had to throw in that legendary planet, leaving all doors open.

A possible solution is that 343 goes all Arthur C. Clarke and we're suddenly in year 3000 when the UNSC long ago has achieved the tech to open up portals outside the galaxy, and they go there, trace the energy signatures of the destroyed frigate and retrieve the ancient, frozen Chief and revive him. An interesting plot would be something that dealt with the now rampant Cortana (who hopefully already haven't killed the Chief in his sleep), like some kind of nod to the Marathon series. But that wouldn't make $$, because people want Covenant. Re-introducing the Flood would be pathetic, and all there's left is Forerunners, insurrectionists and perhaps Brutes.

Good luck, 343. Make a prequel.

How was the cryo chamber damaged at all? I didn't see any damage to it. And Cortana already went through rampancy, if she's even still rampant, she'd be on the fringes of meta-stability and quickly working her way there.

Even if Cortana was still rampant when the rear half of the Dawn was found, she would not have killed Chief, Cortana is devoted to protecting him. It's almost the same sort of thing with the AI Juliana in the Cole Protocol, she was pretty obviously rampant (or at least right on the edge), yet she would never hurt the citizens of the Rubble or the Rubble itself as long as the people were living there.

Indeed, Juliana was beyond the '7 year lifespan'. You could say she was rampant, but looking back I'm not sure. She wasn't violent, she was no threat at all to the people there...

And the fact Cortana is one of two AIs which were forced into rampancy by gravemind and recovered. If she isn't, I'm strongly betting Cortana is moving into meta-stability. That wouldn't mean she would act like a normal AI though I believe.

Old GTs; RebelRobot, Flamedude

I think its a little naiive to think that Microsoft (or Bungie) would allow their main character and money making machine to simply die off. That lone tells me that there will be another game with MC.

This kids entire idea is based on the legendary planet being Onyx. Which it isn't. So lets just let this go away.

And that Halsey could not get out of the shield world without some external help.

I'm fairly sure if she needs Spartan help, she could use the group with her.

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

We don't know how long it's been when we see the Chief adrift toward the Legendary planet. It could have been a week, it could have been a thousand years. Things don't deteriorate in space.

But what happens when the cryo runs out of power? Chief would inevitably die.

Interesting. Wouldn't he of died of old age by that time, anyway?
well if you think about years of our world about 500 years ago people normal ago was about 31-41 to die now it's about 80-100 dont you think most people wouldbe around 140 by then?

Also depends on how long he's in cryo.

In the halo trilogy he was physically 20ish(Ithink) when he was actually 40ish.

Wrong. Guilty Spark stated that The Ark was located around 218 000 light years away from our galaxy. Also, upon first setting your feet on The Ark, you can see the Milky Way in the background at a vertical angle relative to The Ark. He also assured the Chief that The Ark was way out of range from the halo fire. Not that that part says anything specific about range, but that should be proof enough.
I believe Cortana lied to the Chief when she said there was merely years until their beacon was discovered, to keep his hopes up or something.

Maybe not the cryo chamber itself was that hardly damaged, but the ship was sheared in two pieces by some wormhole-warp-electro-portal, and heavily struck by a halo, and parts of The Ark if I remember correctly, exploding violently, a blast which also knocked out the Chief cold. It certainly didn't leave neither the exterior or the interior of the rear untouched.

Thanks for clearing out that about Cortana, I guess I should read more about the A.I. in Bungieverse!

I don't think the ship was hit by anything from halo or the ark.

And Chief went from the hanger bay into hallways from what I could tell based on the fact he was looking out from the ragged edges of the cut-off...

I think he said that's how far they were from the galactic center, I don't remember him saying they were outside the Milky Way, and even if the Ark is outside the Milky Way, I don't think it'd be that far, probably along the fringes of it. Oh, and just another random point of interest, you don't have to outside of a galaxy to be able to see it, like for instance we can see the Milky Way with the naked eye here on Earth IIRC. Now the Ark is obviously much further out than Earth, since you can see the Milky Way (I think that's the galaxy you see in the sky after landing anyway) in the sky in broad daylight.

I don't think that the Halos really do any damage to things with their pulse when fired, well other then completely destroy Precursor stuff, I think it only kills life because it's a pulse that affects neurons in the brain or something like that.

You're welcome :) The Haloverse is pretty vast, I'd be somewhat surprised if there was someone who knew absolutely everything about it outside of Bungie or 343.

  • 04.12.2011 7:29 PM PDT

I believe I heard that 343 will most likely remake halo 1. Which would make the most sense since so many people loved it and to see it in super HD glory reliving the old days would be amazing.

Wait, wasn't part of the story of the first Marathon game that some soldiers went to a world to investigate a mysterious beacon or something to that effect?

Of course I may be completely wrong.
