Seventh Column Contests

By now everyone hopefully knows about the winner of the Art Contest. Incase you dont, the winner is Robert Kreps ( TychoVII ). This was certainly a hard decision. There were over hundred and fifty art submission and choosing from that amount is obviously a hard decision. Us three judges had to choose five individual submission from about hundred and fifty seven total. It took me about two hours to choose the five art, took about thirty minutes for Butane and couple of hours for GodsProphet. Both me and Butane already had an idea on the top five because we looked at them everyday and saw every submission about two times. In second place came Kelli Washburn. ( Pinkuh ) With her electrifying art that totally stunned us. Third place goes to Ross Gemuend. ( rossgemuend ) The lighting in his submission was amazing and very detailed.

Some of the other art that I really liked were: *Note* i'm too lazy to name them. So please if these art submissions are yours then say so in this thread *Note* Finalhalo3art, Alone_V2, The Bungie Code. This is it for now. Having some problems with Gmail account. I will post some more once I get it fixed.

snowmanaxt has already talked with Robert about the prize and has assured us that Robert will get his prize. I'm not hundred percent sure what he's getting but he will be getting something from the Bungie store. We would like to thank all the people that participated in this. I would also like to thank BFO and Snowmanaxt for sponsoring this. If you want more art, go there. Last but not least, I would like to show my compliments to Excalibur for setting this up for the community. Hopefully we will continue this next year.

I hate people who start threads with titles that leave you no choice but to click on them. Still, all good art-wise.

Congratulations to the winners. If it were my choice, I'd have called the top 3 a tie, all were equally brilliant in my eyes. It really amazes someone like myself as to how you can create such beautiful art from scratch, it's a rare talent.

I look forward to the one next year, even if I am far too artistically illiterate to participate. ;-)

Calling the top three art submission a tie would make trouble for snowmanaxt. He is providing the winner with a prize.

*Adds more* =)

So, we thought we'd also do an interview for the judges..just because..you know..we can:

Butane123
1: Why did you want to be a judge?

I was in #MOAP when Excalibur first thought up of this idea for the art contest. I was helping him (as well as GP and ODST) come up with ideas on how the contest should be ran. Later when we were trying to decide how the winner would be chosen, I just volunteered to be a judge.

2: Were you annoyed by the PM's of people asking questions?

I was really never annoyed with any of the PM's. Most were just questions, and I was happy to answer.

3: How many PM's did you get a day as a judge?

At most... one. I got about three to four every week.

4: How many people asked you "omgwtfbbq, are you a employee of Bungie?

We had quite a few people in the emails think we were Bungie, or had "connections" to Bungie. I had one guy who was very persistent in trying to out me as a Bungie employee, though I always told him the truth and that I and anyone else associated with the contest had no connections whatsoever to Bungie.

5: How did you feel the competition went overall?

Overall, I think it went great. I really like the fact that Bungie allows their fans to use their forums to organize a contest like this. I would also like to thank everyone who participated in this contest. I really enjoyed being a judge for this, and hopefully we could be able to do this again in the future.

ODST1125

1: Why did you want to be a judge?

Well, I rather be a judge. I cant draw because I suck at it so why enter. I also like art, so I rather see it then create it.

2: Were you annoyed by the PM's of people asking questions?

Some times, I just hate getting PM's like "ZOMGWTFBBQ Bunie employee" or "Can I get a job at Bungie?" Those kind of PM's I hate. Most of the time I wasn't annoyed.

3: How many PM's did you get a day as a judge?

I got about three to four a day. Does this include personal?

No.

4: How many people asked you "omgwtfbbq, are you a employee of Bungie?

Too many to count. We actually got a lot of those in gmail account.

5: How did you feel the competition went overall?

The competition went well, smoothly in my opinion. We did have some trouble but that was bound to happen due to the misunderstanding. Overall, it was a complicated procedure that took patience. Hopefully next year it will be better.

Gods Prophet

1: Why did you want to be a judge?

Well, i just got back 'into' art and i was in the right place at the right time.

2: Were you annoyed by the PM's of people asking questions?

Not really. I didn't mind answering them if it allowed the contest to run smoothly and nicely.

3: How many PM's did you get a day as a judge?

Varied. Most i got in one day way ...i think, 2.

4: How many people asked you "omgwtfbbq, are you a employee of Bungie?

Heh. Guess.

5: How did you feel the competition went overall?

I think it went pretty nicely concidering it was the first one. I mean, i was surprised at the high standards we got such as Coke's and VII Toast's. I envy their "drawin' Skillz." ^_^

General Question: How many art submissions did you get?
General Answer: I’m not going to count…but let’s say it’s in the region of around 152.

Ok. Almost there. Thought i'd mention even more people! Sorry if you're not on this list or if i repeat people or post the wrong names, i'm just going by what i copied from the e-mails on the day of judging:

Yay, the Contest was a success. Looking forward to seeing more and years to come, and to continuing sponsoring them. As for the prize, I gave the winner a choice of a few shirts from the Bungie Store, he picked the one he wanted, and his size, and I am purchasing it on Monday. It will take some time to reach him since it first has to be shipped to me, then I have to ship it to him, but he will get it, and I will stay in contact until he does. I know one shirt isn't a whole lot, but I aint rich ya see, I just had a little extra money to spare on this and the Fan Fic contest so I did. I just like this community that much. Hopfully next year I'll have even more to spare and can make good for even better prizes. We will see.

Heres to a great Contest!

You did great soldier. Seriously though, who would ever use his own money to buy a prize for the winner of the contest? Who, I know I would have never done it.

Gosh. That art was amazing. I saw the 3rd place winner. It was awesome. Then I saw the 2nd one, and it was way better than the 3rd. Then I saw the 1st one, and it blew em all out of the water. Seriously. Congratulations to all who won, and all who participated. You have an amazing gift. One which I can never fully understand, as I have nothing even close to artistic talent. Use your gift well.

I posted this comment in its own thread earlier but it was locked due to the judges wanting to post a single thread on the winners as well as some sort of conflict with the third place winner that i guess has since been resolved? So any way since that locked post might not have gotten scene by many I am reposting here.

I want to congratulate the 3 winners on their success. Well done, great stuff!!! My only complaint is that I would have liked to have seen all the great pieces that people submitted. Even a small thumbs gallery would have been nice, Im sure there was lots of great pieces above and beyond those posted in the original submission thread. Also having worked hard on my own submission I had hoped everyone here would get a chance to see it as well. So I am posting it below.

I also have a question ODST1125. Exactly what did Bungie have to do with this contest ? Were they involved at all and if so how? Or was this simply endorsed by them because it was hosted in their forums and advertised on their news page? Just curious, it wasn't clear to me.

Again congrats to the winners and Honorable mentions. Great job everyone and a great competition that i hope gets repeated!!
