That's no moon...

Actually it is. I'm disapointed in you.

I do like the reference, no matter how bad that show is(To me).

I think the OP is trying to contradict the game to be a smartass. Reach is a planet. "Reach is the fourth largest planet in the Epsilon Eridani system, and second closest to the star Epsilon Eridani."
Thinking and knowing I'm trying to be a smartass are two completely different things. If you look at the larger of Reach's "moons" in game it appears to be a gas giant, and gas giants cannot be moons. It was either an artistic error or a positioning error. Also, moons cannot generally have rings, because the material making up the rings would be drawn into orbit around the planet or it would just rain hell for everyone living there. For fixed orbit moons, this is more than likely true, but for moons that orbit far from the planet, they might be able to have rings. I don't believe this is the case for Reach's largest moon. If the moon was able to have rings, it would have to be pretty far away, so I'm going to say just that. If you look at the moon, it looks pretty damn close, so if it's really faraway, but looks like really close it must be pretty damn big! If it's big enough to look close when it's faraway, it must be big enough to counteract Reach's gravity and pull it into orbit around the "moon". I'm not saying all of the books are wrong and that Reach is a moon, I'm saying that the artistic design team might nit have taken into account that the rings would make the moon look like a planet. I might have believed it was actually a moon and that Reach was a planet, if the rings weren't there.

Reach is probebly at the point of orbit that is closest to the gas giand. It could also have recently been pulled in by the gas giant, or they could be in a strange, complicated orbit with each other.

We were somewhere around Barstow...

Lol I just googled 'a moons moon'.

Description of first result - 1 Apr 2008 ... It's not impossible, say astronomers, but it wouldn't last long.

Actually, the huge "gas giant" isn't a planet at all, it's one of Reach's 2 moons, Csodaszarvas. If you look closely, the other moon, Turul, is quite near it and considerably smaller. And yes, this is true, I got it from Halopedia.

I think it is a moon becouse of it orbiting the gas giant but becouse of its size it is considered a planet as well

Gas giants are normally very light so it could be much bigger than reach but would orbit around it becouse reach is denser.

The "gas giant" could have been captured by reach in the past making the gas giant a moon and a planet.

AT-AT walkers: killing rebels since 1861

I'm assuming this is what you're looking for
Basically, it only looks like a gas giant because 1) Its extremely close in relation to the ships that are in combat and 2) it possesses an atmosphere (which explains why it appears to be made of gas)

As I stated in the Reach forum, Reach is definitely not a moon, as the body located in Reach's horizon does not completely dominate the horizon, and is therefore the moon in the equation.

Wrong. Gas giants are less dense, true, but are... giant. Saturn's mass is in the 10^26 power, while Earth's in the 10^24 one, that's quite a difference, Saturn weights like 100 times more than Earth. And density has nothing to do with gravity, but mass. If that gas giant is anything like Saturn and Reach anything like Earth, it's pretty obvious Reach would be in orbit around the gas giant. You'll never see a gas giant acting as a moon. From what I gather, all gas planets are giant, and all non-gas planets are much, much smaller. I guess gravity wouldn't be strong enough to keep all the gas together if there'd be less of it, at least, it wouldn't keep together and act like a planet at all.

Except gravity doesn't work like this. Stellar objects can't be in an orbit that close, it would fall into it. That, and the other moon would be too tiny otherwise, particularly that it is seen IN FRONT of the gas giant, meaning that the other object would be damn tiny, thus it couldn't get into orbit unless someone put put it there. And the definition of atmosphere is about possessing a layer of gas, ie. gas giants have an atmosphere. So something having an atmosphere means jack about its nature. Plus, a lot of atmospheres can be seen through as if there was none. This means nothing per se, but it's pretty obvious that even if Bungie didn't intended it to be a planet, they did everything in order to make Reach being it's moon what would happen IRL.
