Subject: Weapon customization: An idea for the next Halo.

READ THE WHOLE POST BEFORE SAYING ANYTHING.

Also, yes I should probably have put this in a 343 forum. For lack of the knowledge of where such a place exist, it goes here.

Imagine if you will, the AR from H1. Now, let's take that boring old screen and make it a vibrant red color. Still not satisfied? Let's give it an extended barrel to make it look more bad-ass! Still not enough? Let's make the muzzle flash when firing green! Now, let's screw around with other weapons! A golden magnum, a needler with green needles, a black plasma rifle with a bayonet! Now, let's put this idea in the next Halo for EPUHK PAWNZ!!!!

Now, don't leave yet, let me describe it a little better. The idea for weapon customization in Reach had been discussed by the Reach forum for a while before the game released. It had appealed to some, but made most rage. Mainly because we didn't want a MW2 style game. But the thing I have in mind doesn't affect weapon performance at all, just the looks! You can make small changes, such as minor color swaps, to major ones, such as adding bayonets to weapons, to ones that no one would probably notice, such as reload and firing animation. You could even alter the color of the projectiles and the sound the gun makes while firing. The weapon you made would reflect your personality completely!

Now, the main problem is, of course, people running around with an unbelievably shiny golden gun with a 30 mile long clip. Not here! All weapon mods would be within realism. Sure you can have a golden magnum, but it would be less shiny and very gritty, like the rest of the games graphics. Sure you can add an extended clip, but it would only go a little bit farther out of the bottom of the gun. All weapon mods would be within realism, no over the top colors or features.

Now, I'm sure plenty of you cringed when I said "Extended Clip" right? Well not to fear! Once again, weapon mods are purely cosmetic. Even if the weapon has a blade on it, the melee does no more damage than it normally would, and an extended clip would hold no more bullets.

Another problem is that the weapons you pick up would change to look like yours. Not to worry! Only guns that you start out with will have the scheme that you have set up! If you are playing campaign, though, only the weapons you start out with are custom jobs designed by you. Not to fear though! Some of your fellow marines as well as your enemy aliens thought it would be cool to customize their guns too! Not all, of course, but some.

Now, if you were to see this in game, you might be all like "Bummer, man!" when you see everyone running around with a special weapon, right? Once again, wrong! You would have to buy the weapon customization tools! That way it makes your weapon much more special. For example, a new finish would be around 50K cR for just straight-up color selection, but for something like zebra stripes or camo it would be higher.

Now, let me show a full list of customability options:

Color of finish
Color of electronics (Lights, etc.)
Color of screen
Font of screen text
Color of projectiles (Bullets, needles, plasma blasts, and lasers)
Type of shells
Color of shells
Color of muzzle flash
Shape of muzzle flash
Attatchments (See list bellow)
Firing sound
Reload animation
Firing animation
Readying animation
Pick-up Animation
Impact effect (What it looks like when the projectile hits something)
Placeable decals/stickers/emblems

And now, a list of attatchments:

Clip sizes
Optics and sights
Scopes (Isn't an actual attachment. Can only be used on scoped weapons. Changes what the scope looks like on the gun without changing the power of the zoom)
Bayonets
Ammo counters

The way that buying colors for anything would work is buying the ability to change that color, and you would get a standard color wheel to pick anything you felt. Buying other effects, like camo, would cost extra per pattern, but you would be able to choose the color of that pattern.

Alright, that is about it.

Now, after presenting you with all this, how could you be opposed to it? If you want customizable guns, you can have them, but if you want Halo to look how 343 intended, you can do that too! It's a complete win-win! Why not give the people the ability to make guns however they want them to look? I mean, if your character looks pimp while killing someone, shouldn't the gun you used kill them look just as good? So, give me your thoughts on this. How could this system be even better? What would you like to see in it?

And if you dare say I got this idea from Black Ops, I will reach the hand of god through computer and slap your face off of your head. Customizable weapons have been in other games too.

Second of all, customization was banned in the Covenant forces. Modification and molestation of any equipment is punishable, maybe by death, but I'm unsure.

Elite: "Wort wort wort! The color of my weapon makes me a better soldier somehow!"
Prophet: "What?! OFF WITH HIS HEAD!"

Sum' bitch. That's the only real problem I see with it. It would pretty much put a stop to campaign customization. Of course, after Halo 3, the Covenant was pretty much broken, so maybe that could change.

Yes, we realize you need grammar lessons, please stop punctuating it.

No, this isn't COD.

I bet you were expecting that sooner or later. Although honestly, it just wouldn't appeal to me so much. No point if they have no use. I mean honestly, some of the weapons have attachments that are useless as it is. Why have more if they give no use?

Although could you imagine a Halo where the armor made a difference? CQC would give more health damage, etc...That just isn't going to happen, let alone gun attachments.

This did make me chuckle

...and I agree - the idea is about as cool as watching your Dad dance at a wedding.

Perhaps you could do completely customized weapons only in Forge, though (e.g. an assault rifle shooting homing spartan lasers)

I'm talking from a singleplayer perspective, but I'd like to see them take a few pages from Crysis 2. Players would find weapons with differnt mods as the progressed through the campaign. Once aquired it can be used with any applicable weapon.
