It's ok, but still, he may want to think of upgrading to a DirectX 10 card this summer; when Vista comes out.

I was thinking of getting a Radeon X700 or X800. But from what Darthbob said I don't know if I should wait or not.

The 9800 is a good video card and can handle most games at high(assuming you have a good processor and memory). But if your friend wants a better videocard then go for EVGA 6600 GT...or was it the 6800 GT, whichever. Make sure its AGP and not PCI or PCI-E.

Of course, the DirectX 10 cards will cost a pretty penny, but if you want SM 3.0/PS 3.0 support, and a cheap price-point go with a 6800 GS/GT/Ultra.

But if you have lots of money, get an X1800XT or 7800GTX...or just wait for the aforementioned Dx10 cards.

EDIT: To use these vid. cards, you'll probably need a new motherboard, as AGP video cards are slowly going away.

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

That card is fine.
No game that is out right now needs are card better than that.
Wait to upgrade until games come out that won't run well on your card. The cards will be cheaper then also.

My card is a 9600XT AIW and it runs any game out there with no problems, and no FPS lag.

Well the card is all right but no one mentioned the the "LE" version might as well stand for "Lousy Edition". If your pal can find a 9800 Pro instead, he should get near double the performance. It shouldn't cost that much more. And try to find a 256MB version as most modern games perform much better with that much video memory (in comparison to 128MB).

Get a PCI express motherboard first.

People should read posts.

He already has a 9800LE. And yes LE isnt great, but its nowhere near as bad as you say.

You could get a better card, but its not worth it really. You would be much better off waiting till you do the lot (motherboard, processor etc) and going PCIe.

D'oh! Stupid tricky wording... We all aren't einsteins here! =P
