Subject: Really weird problem involving Halo 1 campaign map

A while ago I decided to mess with HMT and swap AI characters around in a campaign mission just for fun. Well it turns out that doing so made it impossible to finish the mission (Truth and Reconciliaion) because of the way the characters are involved in the scripting or something.

So I replaced the modded map with the original map in the game's MAP folder, but for some reason it still plays as the modded map. I figured that I must've accidentally modded the original map that I had saved as the backup. So I inserted the CD and copied the map file directly from the CD and into the game folder, but even still, it plays as the modded map which I deleted before copying from the CD.

I checked my C: drive. There are no other installation folders the game could be reading from as far as I can tell.

After reinstalling the game AND downloading a completely separate mod from the internet and putting it in the game's MAP folder, it still plays as my own mod.

tl/dr: Game loads my modded map even after replacing it with the original map from the CD, reinstalling the game, and replacing it with a different mod.

Anyone have an idea of what might be going on?

It sounds like you have to completely uninstall Halo from your hard drive. That means uninstalling, going into the directory to delete it, and then going into the saved files to delete. After all that, reinstall it.

I think I've already tried that. But I'll give it another go.

I think this involves problems with administrator privileges. As in, it is not in fact overwriting even when it tells you it is, because it thinks you don't have permission.

Go look in AppData > Local > VirtualStore > Program Files > Halo folder.

Also, the next time you mod Halo, go to the installation folder, go to maps, and look for Compatibility files or something like that.

Thanks for your help. It worked :D. I deleted that folder before reinstalling the game and the maps are back to normal.

Any reason why the game was loading maps from there instead of the install directory?

I can't really describe it well, but it would load from the install directory if the modified map was in there. But since the modified map is not in the installation folder, it loads it from the AppData Halo folder.
