Subject: So why was 6 a lone wolf to begin with?

Glory and fame, blood is our name!
Souls full of thunder, hearts of steel!
Killers of men, a warrior's friend!
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers!
Sons of the gods, today we shall die.
Open Valhalla's door!
Let the battle begin, with swords in the wind! Hail Gods of War!

I thought that Spartans were designed to work in groups, even the S-III's. Granted, we've seen that while solo, they can still kick ass. (More circumstance for Chief than anything)

But not 6. He was sent on solo missions to fight Insurrectionists, I mean based on Carter's comment in the LW cutscene. So why was he an exception?

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

Because even Spartans can develop differently.

I think I heard something about him working for Ackerson

RED BRICK STUDIOS!

Didn't Six's bio mention him being Ackerson's "personal Grim Reaper"?

Some Spartans just do better when without other Spartans I guess. And wasn't Six usually sent on stealth-based missions where a single Spartan was more suitable than a team?

Usually, my response to threads like these is that Reach's plot and all of the Spartan IIIs' backgrounds make virtually no sense and conflict with existing canon simply because Bungie got lazy.

Instead, I'll just say that Noble 6 has some neurological disease affecting his/her communication skills.

God forbid new information comes out. And wasn't Linda described as a "lone wolf"?

To the point that she was unable to communicate her thoughts through words?

Could've swore she would go "rouge" now and again, but I'm a little fuzzy for details.

Basically this is how i feel, like how they re-released the books with added content to make the new stuff fit!

Semper Fictor

For many reasons. But i got the feeling he was a "lone wolf" because bungie was referencing the other Halo games, in that for the most part you played as someone who acted like a "lone wolf" (eg Master cheif, Arbiter, the Rookie)

Not Ackerson, but somebody in ONI.

One of only two spartans to be rated 'Hyper-Lethal", the other being the eponymous MC, who also worked best alone, look what he pretty much did single handedly on alpha halo.

Noble 6 was taken out of Beta Company directly after training finished. He was used by ONI/Ackerson as an assassin so its a safe bet he would have had specialised training for solo Black Ops, the Sabre program etc.

cus he's badass like that

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Noble Six's case is the same as what Ackerson wanted to do with Tom. He wanted a single Spartan for black ops.

I wouldint be surprised if there were more like Six.

That's another problem I have. Why put an extremely expensive SIII into an extremely expensive top-secret plasma-shield orbital defense jet? That's just asking to lose billions.

If you have a Spartan with the skills, reflexes and natural talent to fly like Noble Six, I'm sure you would have done the samething. It's good to have an elite pilot up in space, both for the tactical reasons and moral boost it would bring.

Um, may I ask what the heck this means in relation to Six?

  • 04.17.2011 1:33 PM PDT

Headhunters were two-man teams of S-III's that went on dangerous missions, similar to Grey Team.

I assume Noble 6 was part of a Headhunter team, lost his partner, and had to complete a series of missions/objectives by himself.

Or he was some sort of special hit man for ONI. Like Sam Fisher, but in space...

Hell, that would actually make a good game.

maybe he was developed in another program.

I'm just going to ignore that first bit for the most part. All I'm going to say on it is that I completely, totally, vehemently, and 100% disagree with you.
Now on to the second bit.

And what is wrong with Six's communications skills? Spartans aren't exactly chatterboxes and the amount one talks will vary from Spartan to Spartan. Six is just as silent as Master Chief, both are the type who just shut up and get the job done without need for extra talk.

Now if you made up some sort of problem for the Rookie, that would make more sense, as he never talks at all in ODST.
