My base idea in my post is still, and always been

"Go on your bob hunt if you want to, i have nothing against it, but do not expect any kind of reward for it, everything points otherwise".

Apparently i did'nt make it clear enought for you to understand.

I also suggest you get your defenition of a troll since its obviously flawled.

#########################PLEASE READ THIS######################

Ok I'd just like to clarify a few things.

1: We have no proof this has anything to do with the switches except for the description of the Vidmaster in Marathon, and I would like to remind everyone this has never been called a vidmaster challenge. Similarly the Halo 3 Vidmasters for recon were called vidmasters yet entailed no Bob killing or switch pushing, so it's not a definite that just because we have Bobs that need killing it is a vidmaster.

2: The switches are their own self contained easter eggs which (to my knowledge) we know the purpose of all of them (Pelican Egg, Reach Racer, Tribute Room and The Package Banshees).

3: If we agree with the general consensus that there is no secret helmet on the disk, then we must assume the helmet is going to come from Bungie/343, which would require them to patch EVERYONE's games, so this would have to come in a proper patch, not in a map pack or secretly just to people who have unlocked the helmet.

4: The data pads are again their own seperate egg. We have abosolutely nothing to link them to the Bobs or the helmets. They are never mentioned in marathon at all or in the vidmaster which makes them much less likely to be part of this.

5: The data pads also have their own rewards. They provide a piece of backstory to the plot, were as the Bobs just provide a medal, and there's a lot of them for one medal.

6: Also, LASO =/= The marathon vidmaster. The marathon vidmaster was on Total Carnage, which would basically equal Legendary difficulty in Halo terms. Possibly with the Iron skull on because:

6A: It was a requirement for many of the Halo 3/ODST Vidmasters

6B: The Marathon Vidmaster required you not to die.

7: Kira Onime is not a troll, he just can see the folly of many of the things we do. The number of times we (this forum) have invented easter eggs on a grand and ridiculous scale is
probably too many to count I'm talking about

7A:The "What's Under Sandtrap?" Easter Egg from Halo 3 (Which didn't exist).

7B:The Halo 2 "Golden Warthog/Triangle Gates/Delta Halo Switch" Easter Egg, which was also a collection of community generated myths.

8:Does anyone know how exactly this "data-mining" activity is done, because I can't find any infomation on how it's done, or what people can see.

9:There is also NO verified connection to the Halo 3 skulls, yes there was one on each level, but so was there in Halo 2 and I'm sure it is true of many other things through out the series, it's just a common way to distribute things, one to each level, nice clean and simple.

10:Lastly I'm not saying we should stop looking for this, because the evidence in the first post is pretty definite, but I'm saying we should probably narrow our search to the bobs rather than looking at all of the other eggs, which are their own contained things.

What if you sky-jack the banshees over a building and banshee bomb whatever comes out? Or maybe they're in a distant building. I'll help look. And it would make sense if you had to find all the data-pads, though I've only found them on Long Night of Solace and Winter Contingency.

i think it was confirmed that the banshees cannot be boarded

It has been, several times, people just keeping asking this though.

By the gods! This may be it!

Perhaps for New Alexandria, you have to unlock the pelican and then the BOB spawns somewhere.....

With the proper modding tools, you can view all the files engraved on the Reach, or any other game disk.
Data mining consist of going throught those files to find stuff, explore content.

Every component in the game has a texture file.
If such file does not exist, the item you refer to does not, not in our game.

this is just a theory, but maybe hijacking a banshee on either level is essential to finding a secret.Think about it.A banshee was needed to get the Scarab Gun on Halo 2,which to me was extremely hard to acquire.Much like the IWHBYD skull in both Halo 2 and Halo 3.Also the skulls were first introduced in Halo 2. Remember in Halo 2 where if you picked up the skull, then its effect would immediately activate. What if killing BOBs works like this?In a way,BOBs would be more like Halo 2 skulls then Halo 3 skulls.Tis just a theory

The Scarab gun is even less likely to have anything to do with this an any of the other suggested things, maybe another summary post is needed lol.

what if he spawns somewhere like this at a specific time

maybe this is where the bob can be caught on foot

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

There is a BOB on New Alexandria.

Most of those rooms exist for Buck to go into at the end of his mission.

Yup, he's in a banshee.

yes but only in a banshee what if he spawns in one of these rooms on foot

He may well do, until we have it confirmed by a data miner, we can't prove if there is or isn't a ground BoB, except by finding it.

yh your right if we had a data miner it would be easy to determine if he can spawn without a banshee but it would also take out the fun of hunting that big gold covie down lol i might hop in a falcon and do a search later lol

*Important:
I'm just throwing this out there, but I do think New Alexandria should be our main focus because I did some research on the data pads and the only ones that contain a blatant secret are the ones found on New Alexandria.
Hidden in the data is a message that reads something like "HALO REACH PLANET" there could be a little more after planet or it could be a little different...but it's there.

If you would like to look yourself, here it is...
(Notice, the capitol letters...also this is the 7th data pad in which the word truth is used. Just a thought because
Bungie's favorite number IS 7...

Data Pad 7

Data Pad 16

Could you explain exactly how you get HALO REACH PLANET out of the data pad?

Dude. There is a hidden message. Take the audio on the data pads and run it backwards.

Youre welcome.

Oh yes, I had forgotten about that, (please see my above post regarding the unlikelyhood of a conenction between the data pads and the helmet).

  • 04.21.2011 10:35 AM PDT

Look for yourself, it really isn't that hard to find.
I put the links up.

Edit: @David Dunn: I never said there was any connection to the helmet fool. All I am saying is that there is a message there, nothing more, nothing less.

Well considering you suggested we should focus on New Alexandria (and considering this thread is about the Helmet I take it to mean for Bobs/other means of unlocking it). That implies we should search there because the data with the message is there, that is definitely a connection.

Besides, that's semantics, I think we should also focus our search on New Alexandria because it is a lot bigger than Exodus so more likely to have unfound ground BoBs. (Also it actually has Elites on the level).

yeah. as stated before, we think of them as "silver skulls". there are at least 8 different silver-bobs. one per armor permutation.

to follow the "kill all bobs" theory, you would have to exterminate each of them.
