Hey now.... here's a thought.

One of the conditions of the Vidmaster Pledge is 'to never shoot where I could use grenades', meaning to attack only with fists and grenades, right?

Well, the other day when I was doing the LD Pillar daily challenge, I encountered one of the BOBs on that level; specifically, the one near the beginning of the Boneyard Invasion phase 1 sequence that directly follows the Bugger cave fight.

While approaching this BOB, I noticed something interesting.... he was holding a Concussion Rifle, I could see that, but he refused to shoot at me for some reason, even though he was looking right at me and I was definitely in range. He chucked a sticky my way, and ran up to punch me when I got close enough, but all the while never even attempted to shoot me with his ConkR. I know that not all BOBs will refuse to shoot at you, but it looks to me that like one in particular seems to have taken the Vidmaster Pledge, hahahaha~

....what does this mean? I have no idea. I've no idea if this is just a coincidence, or if it actually means something significant related to the BOBs. I DO think that we need to take note of the little, seemingly unimportant things though. (These should be FACTS, mind, not baseless rumors that we make up like the stuff about Buck or Brutes or the shellshocked Marine being BOBs. >.>)

I actually just now came up with one theory... I don't know whether this is the case either, but I wonder if it could be the case that there is a 'vidmaster BOB' who follows the vidmaster pledge in each level... a specific BOB that you need to kill, not just one of the several that shows up. That particular comment in the Vidmaster Pledge about only punching or using grenades could be a hint from Bungie for us to target specific BOBs.

I'd love to know the thoughts of the OP, as well as others on this theory.

I think that is what he meant.

I don't exactly know if this has been posted, and I am sure it probably has, but in Marathon Durandal (the Xbox Arcade game,) there is an achievement called "Bob-B-Q." The way to unlock this achievement is by killing 77 bobs.

So if anyone wants to try and go kill 77 bobs in the Reach campaign... go for it.

I think someone did it already. But consider this, maybe you have to kill the BoB in the same way they attack you? Exclude Banshee BoBs for right now!

The bobs that only melee and throw grenades should be kill in that manner. The bobs that shoot, can be shot(possibly by the same weapon). Bobs that run should be assassinated!

Really can't wait for this armor. Has anyone on the internet hacked the map packs or the game on disk recently? Or can we discuss that?

it's certainly possible. there does appear to be a prominent eye piece on the right eye, but it's hard to say.

there does also appear to be a large protuding bit on the right cheek, but EOD has that too.

Yes. That was one of the two 'preview' BoB helmet immages released before the blatant and revealing screenshot that we know and love.

Uh, not really. :0 Frankly I don't see how the game would make that distinction (not that I would really know, granted).

No, I was merely making a connection between the wording of the Vidmaster Pledge and the behavior of that BOB. Like I said, I dunno if it even means anything, although I DO think that this is probably more significant than the notion to kill BOBs or get through campaign missions using only fists and grenades, the latter of which is pretty much impossible on higher difficulties.

  • 05.20.2011 3:47 PM PDT

What about knocking the bobs out of the banshee, by plasma pistoling them then jacking, it would be difficult to do but not impossible... then you could kill the bob itself rather than it dieing from the banshee explosion...

I've never seen a BOB run, they usually walk backwards really fast. I get what your saying, but I haven't noticed a pattern yet, they either attack your or walk backwards from you.

this is what you said^

"or to only kill bobs using grenades or melee"
this is what another person said in responce to your post.

I might have understood him wrong but i thought he meant to kill BoBs that were only using their melee or grenades, which is what you were suggesting. You were suggesting the elimination of specific BoBs that display certain characteristics, right? you made a reference to a BoB that only used melees and grenades so i assumed that to be your main example and your focus(although this was not specifically stated). I do understand that you acknowledged that there might be some other defining feature that indicates which BoBs to kill, but i though you were in favor of the BoBs that melee and throw grenades.

I thought that the person after you restated what you said by saying that we should kill BoBs that are using grenades and melees. I see now that he meant to exterminate BoBs by the players themselves only using grenades or melees, not to kill BoBs using grenades or melees.

sorry to both of you:(

i think the Bob on winter contigency that spawns in the barn(area after the garage) with the ultra and the grunts across the small stream, i think he might run away without facing you...

I have strong faith that since the helmet is so similar to that of a Born on Board, it has something to do with Marathon: Durandal.

Yeah, I have also seen this happen.

As to the person trying to clear up my theory and resulting argument...
All I was trying to say was that there are BOBs who will only attack you with melee attacks and Plasma grenades, and drawing the line between that behavior and the condition of the Vidmaster pledge. I did not say anything about HOW to kill these BOBs, and in fact I don't really think it matters. I understand that my wording may have been a little unclear, and I'm sorry for that. :0 But yeah, the two people who quoted me didn't really seem to understand what I was saying, and I guess I just wasn't clear enough.

Maybe the community will have to kill 77 000 000 Bobs.

In Halo 3, there was skulls on the downloadable map packs, is there anything B.O.B related hiding in the Reach map packs? Just a thought.

This is where I think we need to be searching. However, many people have spent some considerable time on these maps and have not yet unearthed anything.

Ok guys I have identified what the BOB helmet, and new chest piece are. The monical over the right eye, and the face mask are an attachment to the new helmet. If you remove the attachment I believe the helmets indentity will be very clear. I have taken a sreenshot in Halo3 for you all to consider. I think you will be very happy at what I found. I do not know how to unlock the helmet, and new chest piece. What I do know is that Bungie is a business , and we are it's consumers. I believe these new pieces of armour will be unlocked after the release of a new map pack. Hey they got to pay the bills right. Anyway lets get to it. I believe the BOB armours are a early Hyabusa type. I hope the OP can photobucket these screenshots together for comparison.

BOB and Hyabusa

Yes the Hyabusa crown is missing. However several points are present. Look at the small visors. The cheek vents are similar. Furthermore both chest pieces have a high collar, and a structure that continues down near the waiste. I believe this is the Y structure on the Hyabusa chest piece we have come to love. I believe I have solved what the BOB armours are. Please feel free to comment.

I am going to be honest with you. I do not think the B.o.B. Helmet and the Hayabusa Helmet look anything alike.

Not sure if this any relevance, but I just got done playing TotS a little bit ago, normal Heroic run with IWHBYD skull on...no biggy. Got to the mining facility...or refinery....half way through the level at what I'll call "Pipeworld" and decided to take the Rocket Hog through the building. So I start out and get to the area with the two Skirmishers at the first part. No big deal, I try a couple times to splatter them and finally just jump out and melee them to death. SUDDENLY I'm being pelted with plasma fire from a Banshee. I look over into the open area between the cliffs and there are 3 banshees flying around. One suicided by hitting invisible walls twice, the second I shot with a charged plasma pistol, and the third took me out with a Bomb right afterwards. Now, keep in mind Bungie's records show that I have played this level at least 15 times and this is the FIRST time I have encountered these Banshees at this spot. So I revert to the last save and go up to the skirmishers again and kill them, nothing. Revert again, nothing...and again nothing. The Banshee's didn't spawn again for me despite reverting to a point before they spawned on the map.

Took a 2 min 50 sec film (in my file share) of it where they spawn, fly around, and fight with me then it continues through the first revert I did where they didn't spawn. SO.... googled stuff, haven't seen any hint of these banshee's appearing before with the exception of a small screen shot of one flying away from the complex. I'm gonna post this in a new thread but wanted to throw it in here. Thoughts?

Video games stopped even being remotely about skill after the SNES. Recharging health, checkpoints, unlimited lives.

I'll take you back to Battletoads and TMNT and you'll beg to return to the cushy cake walk that is modern gaming. Actually, let's not call it modern gaming, let's call it interactive cut-scenes that occasionally require you to shoot at enemies to provide the illusion that you are using skill to get further in the game.

This does correlate with my theory I posted earlier that there might be more Banshee Bobs in the game. I've been too busy to Bob search lately, so I haven't been able to make any confirmations yet, but keep posting about any odd Banshees you see.

I've had an idea, i dunno if it's possible but on waypoint you unlock new armour by completing achievements in ODST and Halo 3 as well as Reach right? Maybe you have to complete these earlier bungie titles in order to unlock the helmet?

It's just a thought, either way someone should check out waypoint and see if there's anything out of the ordinary.

I've run into those Banshees before, they totally caught me by surprise, too. I've only ever been harassed by them when playing co-op Campaign, though. I don't really think these guys are BOBshees, though.

And regardless, it's been established that BOBshees do us little good because they don't give you the 'Seek and Destroy' BOB medal. Focus your efforts elsewhere, fellas.
