Subject: How long did the battle of reach last?

My Grandfather was a Desert Ranger, my Father was a Veteran Ranger in the NCR. My father was killed by Caesar's Legion and they took my Brother. It's now my responsibility to uphold the mantle of the Rangers and avenge my Father and find my Brother.

Did it last a day or a month or whatever?

Idiot can be a hard language to learn, but once you get it down, everything becomes so clear! The whole world will make sense to you.

Who knows.

The real fighting began on August 12, 3552 and ended on August 30, 2552. Between then and September 7th, 2552, there were isolated skirmishes.

Basically this. Though the fighting didn't get truly dead serious until the first Covenant fleet arrived after the Long Night of Solace was destroyed.

PIME TARADOX!

No, but seriously? The Battle of Reach is apparently a month long now.

What the hell the Chief was doing all that time... who knows.

  • 04.17.2011 7:40 PM PDT

August 14th - August 30th was the main invasion.

Anything before and after were just skirmishes.

Remember though, Auntie Dot stated their were engagements all over the Viery territory AND oribtal defense. That sounds dead serious.

Fighting on Reach? Autie Dot did state that 60% of the UNSC fleet was coming to Reach on August 13th and would arrive in 48 hours, Chief could've come from that intial wave of much later. Chief could fight on the surface, perform a testing of the new MJOLNIR armor, assemble for a meeting for Operation RED FLAG, though under much more dire circumstances, and particpate in the wiping of the Circumferences NAV data.

That is certainly serious (and yes I remembered), however things weren't completely hopeless yet, I'm pretty sure that they could have beaten the LNoS and its invasion force with little difficulty, hell they pretty much had one :P 'Til the LNoS decloaked at least, even then, the UNSC still would have "won".

When Dot talks about the Fleet wasn't Chief at the Battle of Sigma Octanus IV? IIRC. So that's where he'd be, 'til he got back to Reach at least.

That battle ended during mid-July, so Chief either could've came with the first wave of the UNSC fleet of later on.

Only Bungie knows and apparently they are going to take it to the grave with them. Now that's a spit in the face of their fans.

Good thing I'm not the kind of fan who sulks in the corner and whines about how the canon is "messed up". Instead, I examine the material and piece together the events of Reach. It still makes sense.

It was like right around when Noble Team discovered the Covenant's presence on Reach right? It was a while ago since I read TFoR so details on dates and such are a might fuzzy, and I don't own so I can't check for myself.

Why? Because I actually use critcal thinking instead of lazy whining? Heavan forbid!

And to OrderedComa, yes, the Battle of Sigma Octanus ended right around the time the Visegrad Relay went down.

Basically, this.

We've known for a long time that in-game canon automatically overrides book canon (despite how much we wish it weren't so). In this case, the Reach campaign time of about a month wins.

I'm not saying which is the right canon, is just there are some BIG holes in the story, I understand that sometimes you have to break certain canon to add new ones, but Halo: Reach have some HUGE holes that are really hard to find a logic way to explain.

Believe me I loved the Halo: Reach campaing, and I've read hundreds of times the fall of reach and Dr. Halseys diary, and still there are really huge holes in the canon.

Ever heard of testing in the field? The Israeli military does it all the time. At this point during the Battle of Reach, the fighting was relativly isolated. I wouldn't be surprised if ONI did a news blackout.

Actually if you read page 216. while the chief is arriving to camp Hatchcok he noticed the high security level in the area which was unusual, before Halo: Reach you could think it was because of the "special" test for John, but now with Halo: Reach could be probably because ONI infact knew they were under attack.

That makes sense, but to clarify, a news blackout would be used on civilians.
