I just wish they (343i now) would just produce a FAQ in-game regarding what's bannable and what's not. I think that would eliminate a lot of confusion and unnecessary threads.

Halo: Reach is the beginning of a new age for gaming.
It proves that developers can get away with punishing their players instead of fixing their game....and yet the fanboys will still sing praises to them.

-blam!- all of you fanboys!

or maybe 343 should just do the right thing... rebuild MM from scratch...and earn their -blam!- money. Instead of reskinnig the campaign from Halo 1.

I have question for anyone willing to answer...

Are you going to buy Halo:CEA?

Enough said....YOU ARE AN IDIOT!

You are a fool. Why u post crap without reading the previous posts in this thread?

Of course these bans are avoidable. DON'T COMMIT THE OFFENSE! Lol.

I've heard people multiple times declare: "WTF is this notification about quitting?? I never quit anything!" I then have to tell them that bungie makes no distinction between quits, lag-outs, disconnects, etc. So if they been having connection issues that day, they are digging themselves their own grave without knowing it. How are they suppossed to know that unintentional quits = intentional quits in bungie's eyes? Maybe they think that as long as they've never touched that "Leave game" button in the start menu options during matches, that they are safe.

I've never once had the thought cross my mind, "I wanna do this one thing in Halo, but it could get me banned. I'm so mad."

Go on youtube and look up ONI target locator boosting videos. Now read some of the comments. U'd be surprised how many times it crossed people's minds: "I wanna do this ONI boosting, but could it get me banned?" Why do you think bungie had to clarify what is bannable, and what is not? Sure they say u can't get banned for lag, but u certainly could with enough lag-OUTS. Why do u think they had to say "occasional" disconnects?

In conclusion, u should actually read the previous posts before u smear ur blatent ignorence all over my thread.

iPhone 4S 64GB Black.

A lot of people get banned randomly and I mean for no reason whatsoever. And get credit/rank and armour reset for no reason at all.

Also quit ban just came up randomly after 2 weeks on holidays. That's completely broken.

Haha, I love this! That's all bungie ever did too! "Reskinning" the game. Make everything more beautiful, colorful, and larger-scale. Expecting that with this new cloak, we wouldn't notice that they didn't fix jack-squat beneath the surface. Lazy turds...

If anything, they just opened up a pandora's box of more problems. And they did...

Known ban reasons/types/lengths and corresponding penalties:

1. Challenge resetting (network manipulation)
-rank, armor, and credit reset
-2 to 4 week credit earning ban
-banhammer may strike after a minimum of one attempt.

-It is only a credit reset.
-It is only a 2 week ban.
-Because the people who do such an awful thing don't deserve chances.

2. Quitting (via: dashboarding, signing out, betrayal booted, accidental/purposeful internet disconnect, etc.)
-10min. matchmaking suspension
-3 day probation period
-banhammer may strike after a minimum of 3 quits in a row

-People who quit too much deserves a quit ban.
-I never heard of a 3-day probation period. You are given a probationary period first, THEN you are banned.
-What's wrong with waiting 10 minutes to play a game?

3. AFK boosting (especially firefight)
- credit earning ban
- 24 hours (first offence), 1 week (second offence), complete reset (further offences)
-banhammer may strike after about 15 clustered AFK matches

-It should be a matchmaking ban.
-Wrong again: 24 hours (possible first offense), 2 weeks (second offense).
-It strikes after one or two AFK matches have been clustered you dumbnut.

4. Full party boosting (with or without guest controllers)
-credit earning ban
-24 hours (first offence), 1 week (second offence), unknown (further offences)
-banhammer may strike after about 10 FLBs

-What is wrong with this method?

5. Unknown (apparently for ANY history of idling, punished already or not)
-rank, armor, and credit reset
-2 week credit earning ban
-banhammer may strike at any time...

-I don't know what your talking about.

Unknown ban types/lengths and corresponding penalties yet to be discovered.

NOTE: signing out guest controllers during a voting lobby to ensure "solo" matches is considered quitting.

Idiot.

Ok, here's the funny part:
1. ALL these ban types are avoidable/unnecessary (in their implementation on bungie's side).

No they are not.

2. Only ONE of these "ban-able" offences actually affects the gameplay experience of other players

The only "offence" that affects other gamers is the quitting. Bungie's solution is to try to force players not to quit. But no matter what, those who want to quit will ruin the game whether they leave or not. If they feel "forced" to stay in the match, they will just go AFK, begin commiting suicide, or resort to pissing off and betraying other gamers. If they do leave, the game is rendered unbalanced in favor of the enemy. So bungie's solution is garbage. Best solution is to implement a join-session-in-progress protocol. Some may say this induces unnecessary lag and interruptions, but so does quitting, no? These systems exist in games like MW2 and BC2 and are perfectly acceptable and efficient; no complaints there, haha. If bungie weren't so arrogent, they would learn and be willing to implment such a system. Combine that with a AFK-auto-boot system, and voila! Everyone is happy. People who leave, need not be banned (punished) for doing so, and people who stay in as AFK-ers will be auto-booted within 3 minutes. Other gamers will take their place in seconds, and the game remains balanced and fair.

They are not forcing players not to quit. If they were, then they would have whether removed the quit button, or banned you after your first quit. Players who quit will only make the game worse than it is now. You're right about the join-session-in-process method. I don't get why Bungie is to lazy to even implement one. They also forgot to put an auto-boot which is also the solution to the problem. So this part you got half-right.

As far as betrayal booting, just turn off friendly fire!!! Even if the system is not removed, after getting booted, other gamers can take their place. So there is no need to punish the one who got booted. This would also help reduce anger fits when getting booted for an accident (or someone jumping in front of your shots on purpose, in hopes of getting you booted). I personally feel that turning friendly fire off would be the best bet. People will still strip your shield and drop your health to the last bar just for fun, and hope the enemy gets an easy headshot off you. Super annoying...

This is a good solution, The "WE WANT TO MAKE THE GAME MORE REAL" BS needs to stop. The angry fits players throw after being booted is usually bungie's fault for making it where the option to boot comes up after your first betrayal.

As far as the other "offences" that do NOT affect other gamers...who friggin cares!!! Let boosters boost. They payed for the game, downloadable content, etc. You have your money so leave them alone, bungie!

No, you fudgecake. Boosters should NOT boost, as it is cheating. Bungie can do whatever they please with cheaters. Don't like it? GTFO.

Point is this: Punishing gamers who abuse your game or ruin the experience for others, only causes further damage. It does not help!!! There are ways to keep abusers in check and preserve the experience for others WITHOUT needing a banning system. By further damage I mean this: abusers will continue to abuse regardless, and you, bungie, will lose huge chunks of your audience. Not even 100,000 gamers on average per day is friggin embarrassing, bungie.

No, punishing gamers who abuse your gain only prevents further damage. If Bungie didn't ban them, then it WILL cause further damage. Yes, it helps. What you said at the end was very rude and uncalled for.

I hope that you are willing to drop your arrogent attitude, get of your high throne, and fix this game. Not only by removing your useless banning system, but also by fixing the medal chests, for example...

Get out.

The Biggest Problem with Drop in/out System with Halo is the Local Host system. Games like BFBC2 and Modren Warfare have Dedicated Servers if im not Mistaken. When someone joins in halo Usually there is a Host swap that resets the Map.

Wrong all COD games use a host based system.

Anyone who claims the AR takes skill ought to shoot himself in the head. Preferably with the AR because they'll most likely miss with any other weapon.

Good point, I have been banned over 20 times this month for quitting and all of them have been for just 10 minutes. It's so pointless...Like what does it accomplish?

No it's not. Getting your credits reset includes getting your armor stripped down to default as well as getting your rank stripped to recruit. You are such a fool.

A fool to the 2nd power. Do you even know what probation is? If you are on probation, then any offense committed during that time sends you directly to bansville. So bungie puts you on probation for 3 days. Any quitting during that time equals a 10 minute ban.

Posted by: marcusrenfro7741

How do you know? have you been banned/reset? I speak from experience so STFU.

Noting better than fire...

Back from blind

  • 08.18.2011 6:29 AM PDT

ok ok, but what about firefight doubles, in which it is me, and one other person, I wish to simply get things over with, earn my stuff, rack up kills, see how long I last alone on heroic with skulls on, If i play, many times I get paired with someone who is not pulling their weight, or whom I end up saving 15 or more times, so instead I invite one of my friends in, but some days.....my friends are at school, work, family gatherings, birthday parties, out at the bars/drunk, or doing something else, and because I don't want to be paired with one of these people, I just sign in a guest controler which I leave sitting there, I usually only play 2x score attack doubles, so there is a life limit. This means that if anything, the idle controller, which dies alot, speeds my game up, and generally results in me receiving less Cr. however I can earn Cr for my kills, and advance my commendations, and can play the lone wolf style I love, I seem to win in most categories, and the ones I lose in don't matter much to me, and who was hurt by it, I suppose you could make the claim that someone somewhere was unable to join my game as a result of this, but other than that, I cant really see why its horrifying enough to ban me, it is, as some people say, a form of boosting I suppose, but its the style I enjoy most, the whole thing could be solved if lone wolf firefight advanced my commendations, and earned me nearly as many Cr, but sadly it does not, and there is no lone wolf game mode in the firefight list, so I have no real alternative. Sorry that people who don't enjoy the subtle science of firefight sniping are not allowed to join my games, but how can I ploy my craft when a guy with the fuel rod is soaking all the enemies, leaving me with few but the stragglers, and of course getting mad and swearing at me for not saving him from that brute, or for not being what he defines as a team player. Look if you and I play FF doubles together, I'll go out to my remote area of the map, snipe stuff, and if possible watch out for you as well, just realize that I am no wingman, and I refuse to take verbal abuse for it, and if I have to AFK in order to avoid being screamed at for my playing style being "differnt" and "not team player like" or more "tactical" than that of your average player, I should be allowed to do so, don't you think? I can see if you were doing standard 4 person firefight, or if I was just in it for the credits, but because Bungie's Banhammer and my playing style don't mesh, I've been banned for a week, perhaps I will go back to firefight from the main menu, and just play that way, so I avoid mishaps, Its just too bad I don't gain anything from it....

Yes there is. It's called "Score Attack" and it's solo. It doesn't mean the only options to choose are score attack, it's just what bungie named it's solo firefight matchmaking playlist. Stupid, I know...

But in general, I agree with u that the banhammer is unfair, useless and unnecessary.

The mere existence of the banhammer can be translated to:

"we, bungie, made a game so full of glitches, flaws and mistakes, and we can't fix them!"

"So, we'll just try to balance it out by smacking ppl who take advantage of our ineptitude, stupidity and laziness."

  • 08.27.2011 2:38 AM PDT

No to the drop in and out it would cause me to join game lopsided and with the other team in my spawn killing me. This system would make more rage quits and complaining about spawnkilling.

So what? You could quit as much as u want. There would be no penalty...

In MW2 and BWBC2 I would sometimes join matches that, after about 2-3 minutes in, I would realize my team is getting curb-stomped. So what? I would just be like: "oops..." and quit without a second thought and try again. And it did not happen very often like that. Most of the time it was fine.

If the 'rage' part is what gets to ppl, maybe they just learn to control themselves, be kool and calm down.

I dont blame 343, it was more bungie wanting to sink the game - being jellie that they got dumped.

Its stupid, bungie came from nothing into one of the biggest studios and all on the back of Microsoft - and what they do, bit the had that raised them - lol.

343 could start by showing the GT's of players as MM is forming - rather than the stupid "player found" tag. Yeah, know you can see them by going into the "friends" dashboard - but thats a pain.

Then allow a "leave now" option once the map and game type has been fixed. If people leave because of other players (dont like, laggy, whatever) OR they dont like the map/type why not let them leave early and allow the spot to be filled?

Either do it then OR allow opt in/out play.

The quit ban is stupid. People will quit until probation hits. They will then either swap to another account or go afk once they find a good hide spot ... neither make for a good game.

Bungie failed, and as with microsoft, bungies ego wouldnt let them say so. Now all they have is the resale on $1.99 ipad games - lol.

Only BFBC2 runs on Dedicated, but the reason why you can join and leave mid games in those games are because the use Player/Public matches. Halo has always used Matchmaking.

For Halo 4 i wouldent mind to see if they only used Matchmaking for the Ranked playlist and Player/Public matches for the social playlist

  • 08.27.2011 3:16 AM PDT

So what to quitting? If my team can completely take over a game i shouldn't have to wait for people to join i should be able to play the game 4v4 or 8v8 for the entire game

Even if you use the "recent players" dashboard feature to see those peoples GT's, it's not gonna tell you that ur facing a team of eclipses in BTB, while ur teammates are captains with guests.

I agree with you bro, we sould be able to see the GT's while people are still joining. That way, the only people who'll face a team of eclipses, is ANOTHER team of eclipses, since bungie's so-called "matchmaking" is a sham.
