Despotic game design rarely measures out fair justice. Bungie's only concern is reinforcing their own power base (the success of Reach measured in how many people are playing it) so the only deviants they will punish are those that choose not to play the game.

AFK, credit boosters, quitting, anything that allows you to spend less time with the game than you would do so normally earns you a corrective slap on the wrist. And all the while, being the biggest sniper-whoring douche imaginable in BTB is a perfectly legitimate way to play the game, even though it's a far worse thing for how able the other players in game are to enjoy that game, simply because it doesn't directly impact Reach's standing on Major Nelson's leaderboards (indirectly, sure, but bungie's not one to appreciate subtlety.)

It's just what inevitably happens when someone with power looses connection with those that power is applied to. All they see is their own goals and obstacles to those goals (Reach's population), and regardless of how those relate to the "common gamer" (which they themselves can no longer relate to; see how Bungie usually refers to us as "the kids" in the podcasts) they'll act only to reach/remove them, respectively, not knowing any other course of action.

I shouldn't have to sit through a game of spawn-and-get-killed-almost-instantly if I don't want to. I do have rights. I'm a human. It's called free will. If i want to quit, I'm going to quit, and there's nothing they can do to stop me. I want the quit ban removed because it is wrong, not just because i don't like it.

I mean what's next? Getting suspended from matchmaking if over half your kills are from long range because they want you to melee more?

They'll start using the excuse. "Well since the other person doesn't have very good aim at long range we want you to get closer to them so they can kill you easier. It's ruing their experience because they cant kill you because you were smart enough to stay away from them, so we want you to ruin your experience to make some kid on the other end of the screen feel better."

I should be able to quit whenever the -blam!- I want. I refuse to be FORCED to get my ass reamed when the rest of my team either sucks completely or leaves. Honestly, yeah. I quit a lot, but it's because I'm always on the losing team. I'm always on top pulling the team trough and doing all the work. You say you want it to be fun for us. Well getting my ass plowed by two field marshalls, a hero and a mythic is not fun. The matchmaking system is so unfair it's not even funny. Even when the "Skill" filter is on I find myself getting destroyed by people that are higher levels... And I go to quit, only to find myself banned for 10 minutes. I'm not just gonna sit there and be a sandbag for them to blow their load on. I'm gonna quit, and a quit ban isn't going to stop me. It's just an annoyance.

The fact that they say "Quitting games disrupts the experience of other gamers." makes me grit my teeth. Its BS. What about MY experience?!? shouldn't I be able to choose how I play? It's my game and I payed for it. And getting spawn raped sure as hell doesn't ruin other people's experiences, it helps them AT MY expense, so why would they be surprised when I quit? They shouldn't be. Because in any other game it is a normal occurrence. Point and fact: staying in games I don't like is ruining MY experience, yet Bungie says the want their players to have the best experience, but they also decide to tell me what a good experience is instead of letting me choose on my own. It's backwards and crooked and manipulative. It's wrong.

If Bungie was any kind of smart they would have never added the quit ban in the first place. It would have been a whole lot smarter to just add the "Drop in, Drop out" system that is seen in almost every other shooter (PC, Console, or otherwise).

And do they truly have the right to ban me? I haven't broken any rules. I'm not manipulating the system nor am I causing anyone financial/property damage. I may cause other players to be at an inconvenience, but there is no true harm done to them. (And, if the above system had been implemented, it wouldn't have been a problem in the first place) Yes, I agreed to the terms of use when I signed up, But do they by law have the right to ban me from a service that I payed for and that I have done no harm to? Is it legal to ban someone for technically doing nothing wrong?

Someone missed the purpose of the quit ban.

It's there to minimise the effect of people quitting several gametypes/maps they dislike which was voted by the majority.

You are allowed to quit, that's why the option is there on the pause screen.

Another thing. It's not your game, you payed for the right to play it, a right they can revoke whenever they want and for whatever reason they want, it's in the terms of use. They provide the service of multiplayer for you, it's their rules. You can quit and do anything you want in Singleplayer, but as soon as you jump into matchmaking, the rules are different. So yes, they can legally ban you from a service you've payed for for doing nothing wrong, because you've agreed to it.

Halo: Reach is the beginning of a new age for gaming.
It proves that developers can get away with punishing their players instead of fixing their game....and yet the fanboys will still sing praises to them.

-blam!- all of you fanboys!

That's not the purpose of the quit ban. It might have been when they had it on paper.

The reality of it...

The quit ban adds insult to injury to those who are mismatched by matchmaking Or those who get stuck in a room with griefers.

A person should have the right to NOT play on a particular map/gametype if they don't want too, regardless of how many times they are being forced into it because of this rediculous voting system. And they should be able to do it without being unfairly slapped with the guilt that THEY ruined that game. They didn't ruin that game, MATCHMAKING RUINED IT!

If I jump into BTB (since it's the only playlist that has what it offers) looking for a Multi-flag CTF game. Does it not ruin MY experience of the game if I NEVER get a multi-flag CTF game out of it? It's always some lame ass Team Slayer varient, because that's all you people ever vote for.

Yeah, go after the quitters, instead of the horrible system.

Quitting is just a symptom of a greater problem with matchmaking. Instead of fixing the problem at the source...
They blame me and you instead.

You can call people selfish all you want for quitting because of map/gametype...doesn't make it true.
Because you have no idea how many times that quitter was forced to play that particular map/gametype before he finally quit on YOU because of it.

If I hate stockpile on Swordbase. But I'm constantly being forced to play it. How many times do I have to continue playing it until I get a free pass to quit that gametype, whenever it comes up?

The game was designed to fail, and then they blame us for their incompetence.

Take firefight for example:

A huge game completion bonus and no worthwhile reward for your actual in-game efforts.

I mean honestly...

WHAT DO YOU THINK WILL HAPPEN??!!

Bungie are stupid. Plain and simple.

Eyrr,
Your opinion is retarded. So what if you can throw grenades into buildings without your teammates being hurt? If there is an enemy in the room, PEOPLE WILL THROW GRENADES IN THERE REGARDLESS OF HOW MANY OF THEIR OWN TEAMMATES ARE IN THERE!!! Reach is DEFINED by idiots who throw grenades recklessly. Removing friendly fire will NOT change ANYBODY'S strategy. It will only remove the annoyance of morons betraying you and stripping your shield.

"We live in a special time; the only time where we can observationally verify that we live in a very special time" - Lawrence Krauss.

I was a finalist :P

A player can stick his friend with a plasma and get him to run into a room full of enemies, killing them, but leaving the stuck player unharmed. No friendly fire is screaming out for abuse and less fun gameplay.

U think getting betrayed for the sniper is fun??! The game is already being abused more than ever WITH friendly fire.

U guys who support friendly fire r retards...

BOXER, DEFAULT, NOT INVERTED, 5 (MEDIUM), DISABLED CENTERING, TOGGLE CROUCH AND DISABLED CLENCH PROTECTION. Self Control.

It gets pretty lame with friendly fire off. It would be interesting though if you still get the -1 point for what would be lethal damage and still not take the damage. (as in the teammate doesn't get heart in the explosion but the jerk still losses a point.)

Anyway, without friendly fire there will be lame suicide sticky bombers that won't get a -1. Sorry but that's a lame tactic.

I'd rather there just be a team vote, initiated by whoever was betrayed. 1st the person who was killed has to be dumb enough or pissed enough to even start the vote then the team votes for it. Only drawback is it would get in the way of the game and might distract the team for a second.

You are making irrational jumps in your reasoning. He is just saying throwing a sticky on your teammates back as s/he sprints towards the enemy will become a tactic that will be seen over and over again and there will be no penalty. Please don't whine for your right to express your opinions while denying the same right to others.

Quit ban is stupid.

Quit if you want, and if probation kicks in;
1) play on your other account;
2) suicide to pass the time, see how low your score can go.
[and bring your team score down]
3) annoy-to-enjoy. Annoy, take bullets/nade from your own team
[your reward ... betray boot]
4) in BTB, play trash the vehicles (also helps with option 3)

After all, you cant quit, you cant go AFK ... whats left?

RIP Halo 2

It's so stupid banning people for quitting a few games. And you're right. When I know that I'll get banned if I quit, and I get a gametype/map I don't like, I just ruin the game for my teammates since I can't quit.

If 343 wants to make a good impression, they had better:

1) Fix the medals and playlists so that all the bungie.net medals in all 6 medal chests become possible.
2) Turn off friendly fire - no what some retards say.
3) Remove the quit ban while introducing a drop-out drop-in sytem
