When traveling through slipspace you are basically bending space, tearing a hole in both sides and traveling through the hole.

Think of it as a 2-D person trying to get to the other side of a piece of paper faster. Instead of walking the whole way you just bend the paper into a cone so that you are right next to your destination. Much faster.

Never say you're bored. Never say you're satisfied with the world. Never stop doubting or questioning things. Always wonder. Always think. But always take time to drop your guard, you don't have to be smart all the time.

I believe it's an extra-dimension in space that, obviously in the haloverse can be reached

  • 04.19.2011 3:50 PM PDT

well with a slipspace jump your going into another dimension and then reappearing in normal space so it is sort of teleporting and sort of not

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

Slipspace is another dimension within the universe. Slipspace drives tear open space to access it, Staten uses the "crumpled paper" analogy to describe it. It's where matter is transported from our three regular dimensions into slipspace.

Is it possible?

I've seen things where these scientist guys say it could be.

Theoretically it is possible, but it is so far beyond what we can currently accomplish technologically that we will have to wait a couple centuries (at the earliest) to see if it is a realistic way to travel.

What about repositioning and entering a fully cealed dome?

Like I said, slipspace is another dimension. Physical barriers mean nothing in normal space because slipspace is transporting matter through eleven different dimensions, so saying it's "teleporting" is technically correct.

well in slipspace the dome doesnt exist so when In Amber Clad comes out of slipspace it is inside the dome

Objects in RealSpace have no correlation to Slipspace. Just like it is possible to jump to the core of a star with slipspace. In other words, it doesn't matter what is there as long as you can get there.

The above people may be wrong.

Remember in I think its First Strike when cortana is talking about how it if it was luck they don't jump into another ship or if it some how shunted them asside like water arounda a boulder?

If someone could elaborate it would be appreciated.

If both ships were in slipspace then that would make sense.

That may have been because of the Covenant's better slipspace technology

That doesn't make sense.

The Covenant having "better" slipspace technology means they're capable of making precision (very accurate) jumps where as humans cannot; they're also able to travel faster through it. They don't have a completely different version of slipspace, they are just more apt at traversing it.

Thats kinda what I meant. They could have also developed a device that would give them a better chance to enter a heavy debris field and not get any injuries or "engine" problems.

yes but if even Cortana could program the maths of a hard slipspace jump using a covenant ship then im sure Gravemind could accurately do the same using a human ship

But he would still be off, unless he upgraded the engines themselves not just input numbers

Slipspace is another dimension within the universe. Slipspace drives tear open space to access it, Staten uses the "crumpled paper" analogy to describe it. It's where matter is transported from our three regular dimensions into slipspace.

In other words, the universe is condensed in relation to Slipspace which means it takes less time to travel. It isn't a wormhole nor is it bending space.

I'm a hybrid....

Also what is the scientific name so I can google it. Or you can google it for me.

Technically this would be like travaling through a worm hole. So I would just suggest searching for worm holes.

My Grandfather was a Desert Ranger, my Father was a Veteran Ranger in the NCR. My father was killed by Caesar's Legion and they took my Brother. It's now my responsibility to uphold the mantle of the Rangers and avenge my Father and find my Brother.

Cortana means they don't want to "teleport" inside of something

There are many theories about it.

It is ,however ,not teleporting.

Several well known theories include but are not limited to : Wormholes ,ripping through the fabric of space ,and somehow ,black holes.

Apparently ,you have to be in another dimension to travel faster then light.

  • 04.19.2011 6:41 PM PDT

well going really fast doesn't make since in star wars. going that fast if you hit practically anything it could make a hole in your ship.
