I dispute this, as seen on the cover of The Cole Protocol, it is clearly MkIV armour.
Not to mention it is bulkier than both MkV and MkVI we had seen prior to Reach.
Therefore I propose that MkV(B) is merely MkIV with shields, developed as a cheap MOJOLNIR variant for the SIII black-ops teams such as NOBLE.
Mark V is basically Mark IV with shields.
Mark V(B) is ONLY a helm. Why would they bother making two complete variants of the same armor, one which is cheaper or 'weaker'.
It's like(For an example) at the start of Halo 2, Master Chief and an unnamed Spartan.
"Hey Master Chief, here is Mark VI armor."
*Turns to the other.*
"Oh, here is Mark VI(B), a cheaper and weaker variant of mark six that they, for some reason, made ONLY FOR YOU!"
Logistically, it's stupid. There is nothing proving Mark V(B) is anything more then a helm.
Oh, to expand, Grey team most likely had a customized version of Mark IV, being behind enemy lines for so long. Also, in the Book master Chief literally does not tell the difference between Mark IV and Mark V other then the Mark V armor he was going up to was "New and not scarred"
