Its a shame about the inactivy in the groups. Some of them die of this and you have to make a group again. Its hell. Trust me. This is my view.

The problem.

This problem is a large one, its basic though. First, members stop posting for a long period of time. Say like a Month. No one does anything and the admin tries to get it back running. But sometimes this fails and death becomes the group. In a worse senario, the group just dies when it is made.

Why?

Inactivy happens on, nobody wants to post or the group loses its lure. I think a reason is the lack creativaty with in the groups. Its moslty Halo 2 rules or Halo 2 this. You can make a group on Halo, but think. "Has the idea been taken... Shall I go for something new?" A good idea of a unquie group would be Body Politic. Its a politcs group. You don't see one everyday. But this is a problem that the mods or The B.net staff can solve. Its us. The Members. I have had problems with my group, the Darker Side, but its dead. I made a new one called Points of Infinity.

So my idea is...

We cause the problem. We can stop the problem.

So what do you think of Inactivy... Your own idea...

Inactivity may be a sign of larger problems, or an indication of a lack of interest. Each group may have different reasons. Personality conflicts? Lack of new threads? Members who are too busy in other groups?

Group Forums are too hard to get too...too many clicks away.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Its not a problem for everyone.

I think the site in general is slowing down.

Just wait till GNOP Pong Evloved is announced.

I think your right there, everything was more active when I first came here along with the massive glut of people who had been drawn in by halo2.

I suppose not everyone is going to stay around forever.

Bungie.net is however like a blackhole to me. No escape ever!!

Any smallest thing beneath yon rock out of men's knowing. Only nature can enslave man and only when the existence of each last entity is routed out and made to stand naked before him will he be properly suzerain of the earth."

I hate inactivity. But, there is little you can do about it. Sometimes you have to find a happy medium. You can't find a lot of people interested in intelligent discussion (considering that there are not many active people in groups like BP, even though the group has over 200 members), and if you make a group that is too generic, you can't interest enough people, since most likely the people you ask to join are already in one (if not, more) group that is the exact same.

If there is a happy medium, I don't think anyone has found it. And if they have, then others quickly make the idea old.

There is really only one way to cure inactivity, and that would be to have some way of preventing people from making groups with themes that have already been used.

But you can't stop people from making groups...so inactivity will exist. Always.

I blame Halo 2's loss of replay. Sure you can play it again but you know what is going to happen and you know about the second or third time though. With Halo:Combat Evolved it was different and harder to learn what is going to happen time and time again.

So now that every glitch, skull, easter egg has been found in Halo 2 its no longer needed to come here and ask if this has been found or if this is new. Everything has been found nothing new to find.

To date not everything in Combat Evolved has been found. The Library forum still gets activity sure its not a lot but it is still active with things that have not been found yet.(The board like thing on Silent Cartogropher(sp?)

So with Halo 2 nearly done after only a year and a few months Bungie needs to do something to get their site back up and getting more members. Sure they have dedicated fans, myself being one. That no matter what they do or if they don't even release any info and the project will be here to talk to friends and post on the forum.

Personally I believe that just telling what they are working on would get the site back up and running like it was when Halo 2 came out and when it was first anounced. And from what Frankie has said in the weekly updates soon they will soon tell what their project is.

And when they tell what they are working on the inactivity in the groups will be gone and Bungie will be back to normal.

PS:Just as a word of advice when you guys do tell what your project is..you might need to replace the 2 mods that left.

The Frozen Minority - The most infamous clan borne from the Seventh Column.

Well the activity on both the forums and the groups will pick up once we get a look at the next title. The forum will move so fast that you will have trouble keeping up. You can't expect people to post the same things over and over about Halo 2.

I think if bungie restricted the group number to say ten then peope will become 60% more active in the groups they are in. But that number isn't totally accurate since there are groups that are preferred over others.

EDIT: Math: 10/25 = 2/5
The missing 3/5 3 divided by 5 = 60%

I don't know why, but it seems that also many people simply join a chapter just for the sake of joining.

Bungie.net explodes. Try it at home, kids*!

*Kids, don't try it at home.

It all depends upon the people in the groups, and whether or not they're interested in the subject of the group.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

I think that some people just join too many groups in all. I know I have to get rid of a few off of my list because I am not active in them. Also I think that people have just moved on to other things. Once the next project is announced we will have more activity.

That might happen.

I'll be on my own side.

Inactivity in groups is not necessarily a problem. Not one that needs to be addressed by everyone here.

If your group sucks, there's a reason there's no activity. If your group fails, don't try to remake it exactly the same. It will probably fail again.

I'm not active in any of my groups at all. I prefer to stick to the public forums. There's nothnig wrong with that.

  • 01.17.2006 12:35 AM PDT

I find that i am too active, and i end up coming back on and still noone has posted in the groups. So yeah, there is a problem. I guess we would get a peak at Pimps at Sea and it would be all good.

Inactiivty isn't the worst thing in the world. At least you never have that problem of not being able to find your post the next time you log in.

Tell me about it...

In my group we have a lot of the meaningful threads indexed within stickies. To make it easier to find that thread you're looking for. But I'm not sure it's obvious to everyone that we're doing the indexing.

Yeah, unless we make yet another Sticky.....

No, you're wrong.

There was a spike in activity around the launch of Halo 2 because there always is when a new game is released (I believe that Achronos mentioned the same thing happened with Halo).

However, we now have a LOT more active members then we ever did with the old crapness, and that number will increase after Bungie's next project.

The problem with groups is, as the first poster mentioned, that there are too many similar groups, so people are spread thin amongst them.

Activity just takes a lot of work by group leaders and key members. Anything good in life is worth fighting for. I would rather stick a grunt with a plasma grenade, than curse the darkness. This is a great website and it will only get better once Halo 3 is released.

â–ºProminent Communiquéâ—„ Where great minds think alike!

I personally don't see the point in belonging to a smaller subdivision of people who take away from the main boards themselves.

i don't belong to any group because its always the same thing

halo2 this or that

well thats what the forums are for, so kinda pointless in my eyes to talk about it on a smaller scale

And when was the last time this site released any *useful* information about halo3?

They have already declared that no more maps will be coming out and no more updates to fixing glitches on the game itself.

Not much to really talk about a game where you constantly get cheated on
