Subject: Why are the spartans so lowly ranked?

just because they have bulky, shiny, advanced, shielded power armor doesnt mean they are higher ranked...rather higher classed

Et Eärello Endorenna utúlien.
Sinome maruvan ar Hildinyar.
tenn' Ambar-metta!

Because they are needed in the front lines, not behind desks.

Come to think of it they are basically treated like their own branch of the military.

Why is Johnson ranked so lowly? I mean he is one of the bet soldiers in that entire war. Yet he is only a Sergeant Major (Staff Sergeant in Halo 1).

Known by some, but not by all.
Soffish: Do not eat!
TWP Assistant Director.

This basically sums it up. Most of the high ranking people have already done their field duty.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the bulk of the Spartans (especially the III-generation) didn't live long enough to eventually rank up. They were sent on missions with death almost guaranteed.

In the words of the Master Chief himself "No soldier should be honoured for doing what is expected of them". I think they were taught that by Chief Mendez and that is why they are not really high ranks

Maybe, but isn't that whole set of live action trailers non-canon?

there not non-canon, but they are below games and books. games>books>ads

No, I'm talking specifically about the live action trailers focusing around the 'believe' ad, which is about a battle in New Mombasa which did not happen.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

I am aware that They take their orders straight from the top, and are usually used in small squad extreemley high risk missions but most of the spartans in the books at least including the chief have NCO's ranks(99% sure on that)

After the extensive schooling including all of the major battles in earths history I'd say its safe to assume that the Spartan II's have a very good understanding of military tactics and such.

Remember The Flood where MC is taking orders from Silva that ODST Major who wants him dead? If chief had a higher rank, or even just some sort of emergency contingency order that let him assume command things might have worked out differently.

Besides, if a spartan needs a pelican or something for his "crazy ass spartan plan" it would be simpler if he just ordered the officer in charge to hand it over, instead of going through the chain of command. (the pelican is just an example)

Most of the ones featured are spartan III's, cheaper and replacable, albiet less effective, versions of spartan II's. They are commonly thrown into suicide missions.

So you're not going to be a very high rank when your primary objective is to die doing something else.

Jorge was a II, which means he was most likely placed in Noble Team to help increase their survivability tenfold. Take note on how everyone started dropping like flies once Jorge died.

I think they're all canon except the one that diorama where the chief was being held up by a brute with hundreds of marines and covenant fighting around them.

If that was the case then Jorge would've been the leader. Even with Jorge things would have ended the same way.
