OXM's new article describes how indept destructable vehicles will be in Halo 2. As I have said in a past thread, you'll have several options when faced warthog, or any vehicle at that, comming at you in MP or campaign. You'll be able to jump to the side and put a bullet in the gas tank for a huge explosion. You could shoot a flat in one of the four tires and watch as the warthog flips out of control when the driver makes a sharp turn. Or, you could stick a plasma grenade on the back of the warthog as it passes you by and watch as the force from the explosion causes the back axle to snap in half! This great level of destruction is discussed indeptly in the OXM article, and I figured it was worth mentioning this example again sense this feature has been confirmed.
One of the points in giving so many options to the player, is that different types of damage will cause the vehicle to react, or atleast feel differently, as shown in the example above. Could Bungie take this same feature and apply it to characters in MP and campaign. It would add a bit more to the realism of the game. If your right arm gets damaged enough, you could no longer hold a weapon in that arm untill you get a health pax. If your left leg is damaged enough, you'll no longer be able to run as fast, or at all. Would this be a plausable feature to add to Halo 2? Would you like it? How could you use this feature to an advantage in MP or campaign? Would it change the strategy of the game?
(This last part is just my "imagine this scenarios", and my explantion for why this would be a good feature for Halo 2. If you get the jist of this topic, feel free to skip this last part; although, it is good stuff:)
I for one think it would be a great addition to the many new features in Halo 2. Imagine watching the animations of an Elite, after being shot in the knee caps several times, falling on his @$$ and then hearing him screaming for cover form his commrads while he crawled behind the frame of a burnt out warthog for protection. Imagine playing a game of CTF and you see someone from the opposite team aiming at one of your commrads, who happens to be stealing their flag. You zoom in on the guy aiming at your commrad and shoot the gun out of his hand. You then watch as the frustated bastard stuggles to recompose himself and alert his team mates of the misshap. Or even better, and this is my last "imagine this" situation; think of being dropped off by a pelican in an ongoing battle for the city (fill in the blank). As you exit the pelican you scope the scene and notice a guy getting his arm blown off. You then see his commrad yelling for a medic as he recieves two needler shots in leg and falls to the ground clutching his wounds. Unlike the first Halo, characters wouldn't always die when in battle. This would add huge level of realism, and would ultimately make you come up with new inventive strategies:)
