Subject: Linda, not John, is the Spartan in cryo

Omanisat, so the PoA in CE shouldn't have been remotely recognizable? Due to crashing into the ring with little control + battle damage?

Also, Coma has a great topic about "rated for atmosphere" When those thrusters fell off they emptied their fuel tanks and the PoA's main engines were on.

  • 04.21.2011 7:49 PM PDT

I always thought it was a miricle the POA wasn't a pile of scrap metal smeared across the ring's surface. Recall in FoR when the POA lightly struck a Covenant destroyer and abraided away two meters of titanium armour from the POA's underside.

Notice when the thrusters fall off, there's a noticable pause when the POA just kind of hangs there in space. Again, what was holding it up? The ship has no lift-generating sirfaces, and in any case wasn't moving to generate any.

It would have made a little more sense to have the POA held in some sort of cradle or frame vertically, launching like a modern rocket.

  • 04.21.2011 8:04 PM PDT

Actually, that was the Iroquois. spelling fail aside, it was Keyes destroyer he did the Keyes loop in which had that result.

  • 04.21.2011 8:08 PM PDT

Right, duh. Anyway the comparison is still apt. Thing hiting bigger thing at high speed = mess.

And you spelled it right:)

Technically it shouldn't exist, as the POA hadn't launched it's mission by the time Noble-6 delivered Cortana, which is what they were waiting for to start.

The way Halo: Reach's campaign is timed, Noble delivers the fragment, the POA leaves on it's mission, then recieves the distress signal calling all ships back to Reach, where it is heavily damaged, the Spartan-IIs go planetside and the Chief is deployed to the orbital station.

The whole POA segment felt poorly thought out to me. There is no way you could safely land something that big on a planet, let alone get it back into space. It probably wouldn't even be structually capable of supporting it's own weight.

Not possible, In "The fall of Reach" the distress call to the PoA is sent and Captain Keyes has no idea Reach under siege. In Halo: Reach, Captain Keyes is well aware Reach is under siege, he is witnessing a Covenant cruiser CSS heading towards them. What's the point of the distress signal for something he already knows? At this point Reach is already lost. I say the Pillar of Autumn level is after they pick up John and clinically dead Linda from the statio Gamma.

I also posted this (don't remember where) if Red Team was targeted almost right away soon as they went into insertion, how come the PoA entering low orbit insertion wasn't targeted at all? It would have been a juicy sitting duck.

Maybe Bungie didn't bother to read "The fall of Reach". Who knows. The PoA level is the only one problem in the whole story between "The fall of Reach" and Halo: Reach.

Actually when Cpt. Keyes try to take down the huge Covenant Carrier with the new super weapon, Cortana reports that they lost several decks, among them the Spartans's locker room. Which in the level of PoA you don't see any damage at all.

That's what happened. Bungie retconned the story. In the re-release of The Fall of Reach that was put out just prior to the game launch, there is a letter written by Keyes during the POA's refit, stating that his crew is begining to suspect that something is going on on the planet, ans that his crew need to know that Reach won't be there when they get back.

As for why he came back to answer the distress call, an order is an order.

  • 04.21.2011 8:55 PM PDT

I know, which is proof that the POA hadn't yet embarked on it's mission, there's no way it could have returned, landed, been repaired and sent back out, especially with the planet being glassed around them.

It's Chief. This is an easter egg. Not a mystery.

agree

This. why would they have cryo in the loading bays...
STOP READING INTO EVERYTHING.

Bungie says its the Chief, therefore it's the ****ING CHIEF!

The thruster packs are a joke; besides adding more weight to something that's already incredibly heavy, they could never store enough fuel to get the POA off the ground.

And while we're at it, at what point did the POA grow wings? Once the thruster packs dropped loose the POA should have fallen back to the surface like a beached whale.

And this is all ignoring the fact that the POA would literally sag and distort under it's own weight.

Haha! The beached whale line made me laugh.

Also, putting the PoA aside for a second.
There was a battle going on beside the PoA... Then the Pillar of Autumn takes off. And I don't know if you noticed but the amount of flame coming out of those things, would pretty much toast EVERYONE (both Covenant AND Humans) and those that survived will be blown across the battlefield and/or deaf!
AND NOT ONLY THAT!
They tugs drop and the sheer size of those things dropping on the battlefield. The PoA killed SO many friendlies, just taking off.

Only, the battle below had very few UNSC forces left kicking. It killed far more Covenant and scarabs+armor then friendlies.

True... True...
It would suck very much though to be teamkilled by a massive spaceship.
Any ways... Back to being on topic!

So... classic UNSC 'victory'?

I personally don't care, because Halo: Reach is not Canon. But, it could be who ever you want it to be.

Some fan you are.

It's an Easter Egg for gamers, and not all gamers read the books or know who Linda is, so it's pretty clear that it is the Chief.

I'm a fan of Halo, Reach is definately not Halo. It's the biggest convoluted dichotomy to a universe since the Phantom Menace.

Just because I love Halo, that doesn't mean I have to love every product Bungie makes. [Image Removed]

It's not meant to be canonical, but it's meant to represent John.
Agreed.
Why would they leave Linda or John in the middle of a hangar bay instead of an actual Cryo chamber?

Yeah but you forgot to mention that-
Halo Reach =/= canon

I love this and you basically because, its so true.

Saved.

I sick of being of told (Don't play Reach anymore by the way) to adapt to a broken game, or to read pathetic attempts at how Reach is canon and blah blah blah.

Sorry about the nerd rage right there :)

I started up the heated debate on whether the SPARTAN-II in the cryo tube near the end of Reach is really Linda.
I created the Moa XING avatar pic.
Also I earned the All Star nameplate with this submission to Week 14 All Stars http://www.bungie.net/images/News/Inline11/bwu_0415/art/likea boss.jpg

Just to let you guys know, Bungie has made several easter eggs of the books. I'm sure you guys know what they are. And they're very noticeable. And some of them are even from the book, The Fall of Reach.
So to me, it would make sense if they made another reference to the book since Reach has references to the other books.

What do you not understand? It's Jon 117 in that cryo tube. Bungie did not follow the book. Listen for once.

Look at the timeline I posted up in my OP. I clearly state with time's from the book and game and this is true. Gamma Station occured first, then Keyes landed back onto Reach.

Now note, that there are several canon mistakes in the book THe Fall of Reach. Such as Halsey never knowing the existence of Elites.
As far as Reach breaking canon, I'm gonna have to compare the game with the books to see if any canon is actually being broken.
