Subject: What material does the covenant use to make their "stuff"

aka...frigates, crates, walls, barriers, elite armor, shoes, etc...

The reason why I ask this is not to give bungie a hard way to go, but to figure out what material they use since they have no relativity to earths natural resources like metal, tin, aluminum, steel, iron and other matter. I just find it strange that no one else asked this question before. I mean...bungie obviously had something in mind to name it...right? So if a Bungie employee is looking at this please tell me...ive been wanting to know this for a while now...and yes, I will loose sleep over it

They will have these materials on thier homeworlds just like we do. In saying that, the armour mentioned for the Wraith tank was said (I believe in the Encyclopaedia) to be made of a polymer that Human Physicists once thought impossible to synthesize. I have no idea why it said physicists, that is usually the domain of chemists but whatever.

Bottom line is that we do not know.

I'd speculate some kind of Forerunner alloy, akin to what the Hunters have with their shields.

  • 04.21.2011 6:32 PM PDT

yes yes...but that is why I want ta bungie employee to tell me. If they don't even know then just admit it already

  • 04.21.2011 6:33 PM PDT

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

At first I thought they copycat the alloy that the Forerunner used, but Forerunner tech is near invulnerable to everything, unlike Covenant tech (Hunter shields, Keyship). And these raw materials would certainly exist in other parts of the galaxy, they're not exclusive to Earth.

  • 04.21.2011 6:39 PM PDT

the material covenant is making their armor and other things is weaker than tianium... in halo wars if you read the manual it says ''covenant structures hawe avibale energy shields because their structure is weaker than human buildings(energy shields witch are generated by thoes covenant reactors)''

A derivative, yes. It was mentioned in Wages of Sin that they could never synthesise Forerunner materials, to the relief of the galaxy. By the Covenant's standards, they regarded Forerunner alloys as indestructible. We can destroy Covenant alloys, so they must be some sort of cheap imitation.

  • 04.21.2011 6:52 PM PDT

i find it odd that if the forerunners alloy was indestructible...then how did they go extinct so fast. I t also seems to me that they would have mauled the covenant when they back-stabbed them

Indestructible to the Covenant's standards. Forerunner weaponry and weaponry of more advance races would begin to damage it.

hmmm...but we call our tanks indestructible but we know deep down inside they arent. so wouldn't they just say so?

That's different. Forerunner alloy is a material more advanced than anything we have, in our eyes it's indestructible because we've not yet reached the point where our technology is sufficiently powerful to damage it.

Whereas modern day tanks are our own constructs, we know they can be destroyed because we made them, not an alien race 100,000 years ago.

i think we culd damage it with nuke...

Even so, it would be a waste of resources to fight Hunters with nukes.

Why not, if a team of 4 guys fighting each other can call in airstrikes, choppers and a nuke then I don't see how someone in the future couldn't.

OH MY GOD IT'S A PAIR OF HUNTERS....drop a nuke.

they went extinct because the halo array they created killed off all sentient life in the universe forerunners included

They are canon, but they are the lowest form of canon.

Don't forget the Flood, you know.
They're what caused the creation of the Halos in the first place.

especially Halo Wars. The only reason Ensemble decided to make Covenant buildings weaker was to balance out the energy shield

This.

A Covenant weapon vs a Forerunner alloy would be like throwing sticks, two sticks and a rock at a tank (and you have to SHARE the rock)

They are canon but shouldn't be heavily depended on. And Ensemble was correct by making the covenant buildings weak because the alloy is weak. The only thing that makes the ships strong is the Shields, other than the the Macs got them easy.
