Subject: Slipspace isn't physically and technically possible

so...I know i'm not suppose to talk about religion but this will make sense when I get done. So in the Christian Bible it says that the rapture is just around the corner and with the world like it is today...i'd say it isnt far from happening. anywho...If you are traveling at the speed of light, you are practically "time traveling". Time is a state that is unknown and cant be changed by physical means. So in other words when you "slip-space" you would be at least 1,000 years old in about an hour and about 70 in 3 sec according to science. NOW...if the UNSC is hyper-jumping from planet to planet, then while you are looking at each other, you are gradually seeing yourself getting older...your hair starts to grow, your eyes get wrinkly, your height starts to go up, and then back down...you pretty much morph into a 70-year-old in 3-4sec...thats scary, like something you'd see in a horror movie. Now back to the Christian belief....while you are on that space ship and you passed about 80-100 years of time in about 2min "standard" then would'nt it be speeding up the time that the Lord comes? So pretty much while you are going through space you hear the trumpets sound, and the Lord calls you home in about 7 sec worth time...its kinda unbelievable if you think about it...but its very very true...think about it.

and to add on to it..you are getting so far away from the sun he space air would probably be about -10,000 degrees and would shut down the thrusters with no thought at all...you would freeze to death

Slipspace rips holes in the universe to other dimensions

This, bringing religion into a scientific matter is just asking for a bunch of contradictions, so you really shouldn't see it with that type of perspective.

  • 04.21.2011 7:15 PM PDT

yes...pretty much. its a time warp

God made the universe complicated and we have only scraped a speck of it(less than that even). So we may never know

  • 04.21.2011 7:22 PM PDT

exactly..but its always fun to let the imagination run. but seriously...you would be 100 years old in about 10 sec. that IS a FACT

  • 04.21.2011 7:24 PM PDT

Have you seen my mind anywhere? I seem to have lost it...

I have seen you future

No, it isn't, not really. Think of a person drawn in a two dimensional plane, a stick person on a long piece of paper. It would take the stickman a long time to travel all of the way to the other side of the paper. It would be much faster to roll/fold the paper so that he is right next to his destination. If he can enter the third dimension he will need to travel a much shorter distance.

Slipspace functions in a similar manner. It basically folds space and travels through another dimension allowing you to travel great distances in much shorter periods of time.

And as someone else said, please leave religion out of a a scientific discussion. Not only is it against the rules, but it also causes confusion and detracts from the real issue at hand, slipspace.

There are only a handful of active threads right now, it was just sheer misfortune that I stumbled upon you in one of them.

That would only apply if they were going very close to the speed of light in our universe(.9999999999999 C). There's no indication of time dilation from slipspace travel(except for that one instance in FS)

  • 04.21.2011 7:34 PM PDT

consider this....you have 2 cars that drive 1 mile

1st car goes 30mph
2nd car goes 100mph

1st car gets to a mile in about 2 min
2nd car gets there in about 25 sec

you have 2 space ships that go 3 light years

1st ship goes 6,000mph
2nd ship goes 40,000mph

1st ship gets to 3 LY in about 9 years
2nd ship gets to 3 LY in about 5 years

you are both traveling the same distance but in a different amount of time. So yes..you are bending time. your point was proved wrong

you are pretty much watching yourself getting older as you go faster..you speed up time and life itself

Slipspace does not demonstrate time dilative effects. This only applies if you were travelling in normal space.

About -273*C is the lowest you can ever go.

i know that you are right because you looked it up on wiki.answers...but if you think about it..it could probably get much lower outside of the universe...no sun...no light..total darkness for 10,000 light years. atomic motion ceases to exist at -273.3...in our galaxy

I always thought that the laws of physics and the properties of everything change in slipstream space. That being said, I am no expert on this subject.

It is, which is why ships can travel so fast without adverse relativistic effects, it's not constrained by the 4 dimensions of real space.

  • 04.21.2011 8:28 PM PDT

I am The Sapphire Knight

1.)Slipspace doesn't follow the rules of normal physics(which is why the Ships can travel faster than light.

2.) The theory isn't that that time slow and age you faster. It is that time slows down for you so you would age slower.
