Subject: Why is Halo Wars hated so much?

Non Nobis Nascimur - We are not born for ourselves.

I loved Halo Wars. It's campaign was decent enough and it's multiplayer was / is fun. I still have fond memories of intense back and forth 3v3 matches lasting for hours.

I think many people didn't like it because Halo Wars was in an awkward position. Many RTS fans didn't like its simplicity and many Halo fans would rather shoot things themselves, rather than command troops to shoot things.

I love Halo Wars, it's definitely not in the same league as something like Age of Empires II but it's still good. If they released it onto PC that would be like a dream come true.

I like the game. Don't like the plot or characters. And there are way to many mistaked for me to consider it canon. Also it doesn't feel as 'free' as other RTSs.

Halo Wars doesn't have any canonical mistakes in it. THings like Spartans in Mark IV having shields is only in GAMEPLAY, and gameplay =/= canon.

You assume that's what I was talking about.

Well don't leave us all hanging, go ahead and tell us what you found to be so incredibly wrong you cannot count Halo Wars as canon (a moronic gesture, I assure you).

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

I love Halo Wars. The campaign was decent to me, but the multiplayer, especially with friends was brutally adicting.

I still play the game to this day by myself since I ran out of XBL. Damn AI´s whore Scarabs and Vultures on Legendary.

I miss sgt, Forge because he is a witty and kewl guy. :(

I don't hate it, I like the campaign. I get bored of the multiplayer incredibly fast though, mainly because I'm bad, but also because everyone uses predictable tactics.

  • 04.23.2011 4:57 AM PDT

People should respect all Halo Themed games if they ARE fans >:(

I liked Halo wars, the only thing that bugged me was the fact that some of the vehicles in it were not used in the other halo games. I would love to drive a grizzly, or fly a vulture, or shoot stuff with a locust

It's a little stupid.

But that one cutscene that is simply epic is not the Elites blindly running into bullets, but this.

Best. Ship. Ever!

The only thing that bothered me about it was how simple the gameplay was for an RTS. Battle for Middle Earth 2 did a good job for a console port of an RTS and there was a lot more depth in that game. It's also hard to stay interested in the game when there are so few strategies to pull off due to the simplicity.

Still it was a good game and I did play it a lot and enjoyed it.

People are one-dimensional and refuse to look beyond FPS games to ones that actually make one have to think.

Halo Wars is one of my favourite Halo games, I felt the story was pulled off much better than Halo 3 and Reach.
Meh.

I didn't like how the Shield World was hollow. How is that supposed to protect against the Halo Array?

Where are the Energy Shields!?

Homesite for funny videos, gameplay, and much more!

I don't think Ripa Moramee was stupid (the Arbiter in Halo Wars), but rather the fact that he let his raging do the thinking for him rather than making a strategy before hand.

I'd like to see a sequel or two, depicting what ever happens to the Spirit of Fire, it's crew, and Omega Team.

Did they just die off floating dead in space with no engine or what? Weren't they in an "uncharted" area of space? Was Omega Team present during the fall of Reach? If so, how did they get there?

There is just so much story prior to the games that could be covered by a Halo Wars 2 and 3.

I love Halo Wars. It's a good game with a decent story (Arcadia seemed unnecessary and the characters were sort of cliche), but it is always fun to go back and play.

I am not a huge RTS player so I liked its simplicity and how it is possible to play a relatively short game.

I am Field Master Avu Med 'Telcam, Servant of the Abiding Truth, and I have many brothers.

A god who creates tools is still a god. It is not for us to impose qualifications upon the divine or presume to guess its intentions.

I love Halo Wars. I'm just not that good at it. Skirmish for me! Ripa 'Moramee & Regret are unstoppable.

Because most Halo players only play shootan games. They don't like thinking too hard.

Never give up, never surrender!

For the record, I liked Halo Wars even though I'm not an RTS guy.

In my opinion, it's ultimately because of the change in genre. After three First Person Shooters, you simply have a fan base that has become used to seeing Halo and thinking FPS. Everyone who bought the game obviously knew what they were getting, and it was just a matter of it not being their cup of tea.

Personally I liked it, and I would be open to another Halo in a different genre. It's just everyone is used to Halo being a shooter and that's what we love about it.

  • 04.23.2011 3:25 PM PDT

We will know soon enough, but it will require thought. Deep thought. Mendicant Bias must be found. The Mantle will soon follow.

01010100 01101000 01100101 00100000 01001001 01110010 01101001 01110011 00100000 01101001 01110011 00100000 01101011 01100101 01111001 00101110

People have stated this throughout the course of this thread; The Halo community is indeed diverse, does like multiple different genres (varying individually, of course), and overall, accepted Halo Wars into the Halo franchise with open arms. People that don't like the game are most likely either not big fans of RTS's, such bug fans of more complicated RTS's that Halo Wars' simplicity was a bit too dumbed-down, or believe it doesn't fit storyline (which, in reality, it in fact does fit storyline, in nearly every aspect).

He may be referring to the pointless Arcadia mission, the Elites being idiots, having no shields (including the Arbiter, on both accounts) and the Shield World being hollow rather then in another dimension (how is that going to protect you from Halo?)

Either way, I liked the game myself
