"You know what happens when you leave someone hanging for too long? They fall."

*Click* Psshhhhhhhh

By free I do not meen no purchase. Many sites allow members to use any avatars, made by themselves, or others (with permission of creator). Picture sigs are also allowed. I can see why Archonos doesn't want to allow these. The usually lead to bugs. Some can contain improper images.

--Seeing as we do not want any mature content here, and that would be avatars, and pic sigs of people (if these things were allowed), there is one option I can see. This may spoil the clean sight but...if anyone does have these images, ban them from this site. A new rule could be added to bungie. I know this thread wont be taken too seriously, but it may be a good idea to think of more creative things for bungie.net in the future.

A too strict sight is no fun, but neither is a sight that is out of control. Something to think about.

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

I'm not sure what the point of this is. You appear to have contradicted yourself at every turn.

Bungie does an excellent job with this site, and it is a good thing they control the avatars.

The Short Version:

Bungie controls everything. You have no rights. Play nice.

Custom Avatars are for those who have done something good. ie. Moderators, Bungie Employees, Theme Masters, etc.

The sheer amount of traffic on this site would make banning those that upload bad images extremely difficult.

And if you see someone with a custom avatar, you know it's someone special. And that's good.

The reason everyone doesn't get their own avatar, and can use an image sig is cause of one thing called Bandwidth, and for the approx. 1,000,000 or more users all of the bandwidth needed would cost a astronomical amount of money so they keep the avatars to a handful, and no image sigs.

Read the code of conduct. You have no freedom here. None. We control the vertical, the horizontal.

So long as there is a means to post an image there will be someone who wants to post the most vile crap you've ever seen. Hence, no images.

You want to take the chance of walking into a thread with someone who has a combo picture of -blam!- and Goatse?

People will always try to piss Bungie off. One can only imagine the horrible things that people would want to make avatars of...concerning themselves, their naughty parts, and the Master Chief/the Arbiter/Miranda Keyes. And with so many pissed off members, who think they have done nothing wrong, there would be a lot of problems. The moderators would get no sleep, and in the end to prevent further problems Achronos would just have to take it back out.

Synopsis: In any other forum you go to, or in your world, you have your freedoms. When you come to Bungie, they control all eleven dimensions. Yes, even time. They could twist your head into a pretzel if they wanted.

Did I say I was trying to agrivate bungie? no. I was making a suggestion that they could consider. Anyone would agree, that a fun site is much better than a dull one. I'm not refering to my first post, Im suggesting that bungie does something to make the site a little better.

--Shishka, do you think that statement makes people like this group more? "You have no rights."

--I didn't contridict myself. I told both sides of the story, allowing a more detailed discription. So that if bungie did like the idea they would know all about it. (which they may any way)

But they don't. Too many people will abuse it, bandwith issues, the horros that will come from seeing someone's hairy ass... They don't like the idea. Custom avatras for special people only!

Shiska, nice reference to The Twilight Zone. Arcane sci-fi references are awesome!

Sorry to break it to you natedogr, but Shishka is not referencing The Twilight Zone. The quote is from a similar show (albeit a better one) from the same era entitled The Outer Limits. Donald Pleasence (i.e. The Man with the Power) appreciates the reference.

The topic if custom pictures has popped up a few times recently. To me, it seems a silly question with many perfectly logical reasons to explain why things are (and will stay) the way they are. Considering I have dial up internet most of the time, I truly appreciate Bungie's efforts to make this site run as smoothly as possible.

Edit: Look at those Dorfs juggling in unison. I guess Reiginko and I are just that good.

That was the Outer Limits, actually.

If that was a concern, we wouldn't have put it in the code of conduct.

Whats wrong with saying we have no rights, we don't anyway so i don't see the problem.

You won't be saying that when someone has an avatar of Michael Jackson playing with something he really shouldn't be.

Or any of the number of websites people love to link here to fool people into seeing something disgusting.

Just in case anybody is uncertain... there will never be custom avatars on this site as long as I'm here (as well as no smilies). Here are the reasons:

1. I do not want to see a picture of your ass as your avatar.
2. Obligatory Penny Arcade reference
3. Managing the avatars of our million-plus accounts would be not trivial and time better spent elsewhere (storage, UI, security, etc.)
