Subject: Emile - Most useless spartan?

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

The Elite Field Marshall on the first level came sprinting out of the door he was guarding, it was one shot and he had a Shotgun.

Explain.

Emile-A239: "That tango blew past me. Permission to pursue?"
Carter-A259: "Negative Four, stay on the entrance. Two, handle her. Five and Six, clear the hole."

Yup, following orders makes you useless.

Keep in mind how long it took to close that massive door... How did he "blow past" him, the elite, first must know how to use human tech and open the door. Then it takes a good minute to open... Maybe Emile was just sleeping?

Or perhaps the Elite took another door, seeing how there were at least 2 doors in that room? One directly in front of were the Elites dropped down and other to the right from where you come from.

There was one front door to the facility and it was sealed, there was also an inner door that would have been sealed. Emile is a Spartan, an Elite charging him only spells one type of reaction.

The radio message should have been:

"A Tango just rushed me, I neutralized the threat"

It must've been because the Elite that killed him casually walked up behind him as well.

He was good for distracting the Hunters partway through "The Pillar of Autumn"? I don't know.

Until they knocked him over the edge of the cliff.

Gaw! spartan tech these days - Kat's shields malfunctioning, Emiles radar and Carters armour failed to protect him!

People talk about gaming characters as they were alive. They aren't! They cannot change what they do. They do what the makers made them to do. Bungie made him so useless, he didn't. It was up to Bungies imagination, they could make him go with the shotgun and -blam!- up everybody and then destroy 20 phantoms and clean up all those Field Marshalls who were on the way to the gun and then destroy the cruiser, but he didn't. Bungie made him so, it is their fault, not his.

So if we are frustrated by a movie character, we should be angry on the writer and director? Bungie has made a huge universe with characters we love, so discussing how they act and what roles they have is natural.

I mean, can you take down two Banshees with one/two shotgun shells?
If you're talking about start of the Pillar of Autumn level, he actually used a grenade launcher in the back of the Pelican...

Haha, you're right about that. My bad.

Elite activates and cooks off plasma grenade.
Elite throws grenade at door, it explodes on impact, knocking Emile out of the way.
Elite runs through the now hole in door and moves left, out of Emiles field of fire.

That is how I see it happening anyway.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Yep. He is the Spartan equivalent to Ripa Moramee.

Um, why would other doors have been sealed? Anyway ever think it might have slammed Emile aside and then sliced the controls forcing the door to open? Besides, when it was slowly closing that was after Kat had been fiddling with the wires of the control panel. And it wouldn't have to be that open to get through.

Um, it wasn't. The elite was moving slow enough not to appear on the motion tracker, and it dropped down ontop of the gun while the phantom was overhead. Emile could not know it was there unless he had magical senses.

I dont think spartan 1337 was a real spartan

  • 04.24.2011 1:59 PM PDT

I think it was Solomon. All he did was assault a carrier, and get blown up.

  • 04.24.2011 2:07 PM PDT

Emile was a bad-ass SPARTAN, he didn't get the attention he deserved in the campaign, he seemed like an interesting character. he was honourable and a close quarters specialist, he should have been in more close range, hand to hand style stuff to be honest but the campaign set-out never lets him really do this! as far as Noble team goes, I think Emile has one of the best 'characters' of them all, get the impression he is not someone that anyone would want to mess with, plus he customised his EVA helmet, enough said!

He's misunderstood I think. In many ways.

People don't understand how the helm works (that stupidity stopped though, luckily enough.)
People don't understand that somebody walking slowly can appear invisible on motion tracker.

IMO, Jorge, then Emile, were the two Noble Team members which connected most with Six.

Oh, have you read "A Fistful of Arrows"? That shows Emile being badass with a car :P.

  • 04.24.2011 2:11 PM PDT

nope, can't say I have, being a rather big fan of Emile think I might try give it a read sometime. I reckon Emile is the person who you'd want standing by your side if the blam! hit the fan, cause I get the impression he is truly defiant, fearless and above all else honourable. rock on A-239!

'Trust me...paybacks a -blam!-!...'

"Boo."

And yeah, totally badass with the car. XD --- Really enjoy Fistful. Would be pretty neat to see that be picked up as canon IMO.

Back on-topic...I really have no problem with Emile, except him trying to snipe with a shotgun but uh...gameplay. >>'

Yeah, gameplay doesn't = how the character really is.

I mean, yeah it'd be awesome if he was spartan like and killed -blam!- left and right and helped more against the hunters, but then the game could be too easy with you sitting back and doing nothing.

You know if Reach has the friendly AI scheme ODST had? You sit back and do nothing they will hardly attack, but if you charge in they'll charge in with you?

Oh, about fistful, I showed that to a friend and his jaw hit the floor. He asked me if it was canon/going to be canon and I went "Nope, that's pure fanfiction with no backing by Bungie and 343. Epic -blam!- right?"

  • 04.24.2011 2:26 PM PDT

wow looking at that now, that seems really well done except for Emile not having his mask artwork!

I'm a very articulate person. In engrish.

It's never easy, is it?

He's the cool one and the black guy. Every kick-butt team MUST have a black guy. And he had a skull on his helmet, how beast is that?

Oh, he gets it later on. The author has why it appears in his view.

His deviantart page has it open with Jun and Halsey after they leave for castle.

I guess I never really paid attention to the friendly AI in ODST because I don't remember them doing that at all. XD

But you're right, that would actually be really helpful in Reach.

And yeah, I think the artist realizes he screwed up with Emile's skull design. The flash-backs are set after Deliver Hope and Emile still had the skull etched on the face-plate during that. I think there were comments about that on one of the pages.

But it's really a great piece of work. It always brightens my day a bit when I see new pages put up.
