Subject: Emile - Most useless spartan?

You know if Reach has the friendly AI scheme ODST had? You sit back and do nothing they will hardly attack, but if you charge in they'll charge in with you?

I guess I never really paid attention to the friendly AI in ODST because I don't remember them doing that at all. XD

But you're right, that would actually be really helpful in Reach.

And yeah, I think the artist realizes he screwed up with Emile's skull design. The flash-backs are set after Deliver Hope and Emile still had the skull etched on the face-plate during that. I think there were comments about that on one of the pages.

But it's really a great piece of work. It always brightens my day a bit when I see new pages put up.

Oh? I never noticed his helm that much in it. I forget when he gets shown, was it him or Carter who did the assassination on the Elite in the extended version?

I think in ODST/and or Reach if it's in it was hard to notice because they'd be behind/beside you and you'd be on a rampage anyway.

"What do you hear?"
"Nothing but the rain."
"Then grab your gun and bring in the cat."
"Boom, boom, boom!"

Carter is the one assassinating the elite. Emile is about the 35-36 second mark. You have to pause it to get a good look at him because of how quickly the trailer moves.

And yeah, I can see that. I'll have to slow down one these days when I play campaign, see if that happens. Smell the roses if you will.

He was away most of the time during the time, probably on other missions.
Most of Reach's campaign was mid to long range fight and Emile's a short range fighter.
Few SPARTAN's could take out a Field Marshall after getting stabbed in the torso with a Energy Sword.
You forgot when they were in the Pelican he was shooting down banshees with a grenade launcher.

I didn't really want to let the commercial's quick flash of Emile's ghost face rewrite my whole comic - it seemed like more of an egg to me. :) (Plus the commercial shows Jorge being left-handed...should I have explained that change, hah?) I do love the commercial though.

There's also going to be a bonus fictitious article when the comic is done that delves into Emile's carvings. I think he might have had more - perhaps Deliver Hope shows just one helmet... It will also talk about how his face craving inspired others - a trend of fighting back against the Covenant with more than just guns, but with fear as well.

And to be directly on-topic, I think Emile is badass - and much cooler than I expected leading up to the game. His death was actually the one that affected me most during my first playthrough.

The Elite Field Marshall on the first level came sprinting out of the door he was guarding, it was one shot and he had a Shotgun.

Explain.

Emile-A239: "That tango blew past me. Permission to pursue?"
Carter-A259: "Negative Four, stay on the entrance. Two, handle her. Five and Six, clear the hole."

Yup, following orders makes you useless.

Keep in mind how long it took to close that massive door... How did he "blow past" him, the elite, first must know how to use human tech and open the door. Then it takes a good minute to open... Maybe Emile was just sleeping?

Or perhaps the Elite took another door, seeing how there were at least 2 doors in that room? One directly in front of were the Elites dropped down and other to the right from where you come from.

There was one front door to the facility and it was sealed, there was also an inner door that would have been sealed. Emile is a Spartan, an Elite charging him only spells one type of reaction.

The radio message should have been:
"A Tango just rushed me, I neutralized the threat"

When you get inside the building you have to turn left to get to the body, to the right there is a door, I'm not talking about the one sealed by Kat nor the one used by the other two zealots.

There were also walkways toward the dish you could see from outside. As well as that hallway with the forklift? Wide and sized to take vehicles. The front courtyard was not the only way in.

"You were weak... and gods must be strong."

Not speaking canonically, but rather speaking gameplaywise...

The first level tells you all you need to know. Before you even fight anyone. *computer screen fades into Winter Contingency...*

Noble Team jumps from their Falcons. Carter gives the order to move down the hill. Carter, Kat, and presumably Noble 6 stealthily make their way down the hill, scanning for enemies.

POP!

Emile's energy shields suddenly burst from jumping off a tall, rocky outcropping he had the nerve to noisily jump up and scan the skies ever so readily with his trusty 300-yard Shotgun in hand.

~~~~~~
....Seriously? Did he really just- Oh bother.
Um, when was it ever stealthy? If you look at Carter and Kat they walk down the path normally. Having you know, looked over the entire area from above.
"You were weak... and gods must be strong."
Well yeah, they weren't actually scanning for enemies or being all precautious about it, I know. Just making the situation seem a bit more... obvious.
Seriously though, what Spartan goes to the length to pop his shields just to jump off a large rock?
Eh, with that I think it was just Emile climbing up the rock to do a quick look-over the area before Carter and Kat got far. Then, he took the shortcut as it was clear by simply jumping down.
Haha well no worries, I'm only speaking in a Gameplay context.
Canonically, I doubt his shields would've popped from that.
