I haven't been able to find an official number, all I've ever seen is "billions". I was just wondering if we were ever given an exact (or near exact) number of military enlisted humans that died during combat with the Covenant from 2525 to 2553? Even billions seems wrong, given the number of colonies I would have guessed hundreds of billions.

Its gonna be unknown for a very long time. Especially because of the amount of colonies forgotten, Rebel vs Covie fights, etc. But yes hundreds of billions sounds about right

Actually wait... how does it say hundreds of billions? You might be getting yourself confused with the Covenant.
Well, if we took civilians into account it may reach into that (but we're not...)

In memory of those fallen in the defense of Earth and her colonies.

March 3, 2553

Soldiers? Hundreds of millions, perhaps more.
Civilians? Billions. They glassed more than 10 worlds i believe.

Just 10?
They glassed hundreds!

They didn't glass hundreds of HUMAN WORLDS - at the end of the war only a few were lest uninhabitable

According to the CAA factbook, Reach alone has a total availible military manpower of 385,421,100.

A common misconception is that this means active duty. However "available military manpower" means how many people could be rounded up to fight in the militia if need be, I think. If not, the notion of 302,000,000 deaths is puny.

  • 04.24.2011 6:05 PM PDT

Same thing. It's probably safe to assume that whether they were active duty or total possible troops, they were all commited to the fight. It's also probably safe to assume the vast majority of them died.

The total pop. of Reach was 703,341,500.

The whole reason for this post was because I was thinking, "Comparing the deaths in the Vietnam War to the Human-Covenant war, how big would a Human-Covenant War memorial be in proportion to the Vietnam War memorial of the same setup?" The answer: FREAKING HUGE.
