Actually, no matter how much you hate it, Reach IS canon because a.) it is one of the games, which override all other aspects of the franchise, and b.) because it's newer than The Fall of Reach.

So one of the first halo story makers sources is no longer canon?

Shame on you it was around before halo:ce. that book basically jump started halo.

Halo:CE jump started Halo, that is the most idiotic statement I've seen in a while. The book came out before the game but it was supposed to coincide with the release of the game it just happened to come out a little earlier.

Also, Mr Evil is right so deal with it.

How does that make any sense? Something is right automatically because it's newer? There's a reason it's called established canon.

There is something also called, priority of canon.

Games, books, other materials.

If a New game comes out, and it conflicts with a book (In this case, there aren't many conflicts.) the game takes lead.

Anyway, on topic. The reason it wasn't put in his helm was it was a fragment of Cortana, and it's easier to had an armored storage unit over then unplug the chip from the helm and hand it to Keyes. Also much easier to drop a tiny AI chip instead of a storage unit.

Edit: This rule was set down by Bungie with Halo CE I believe. Kinda funny it's just now being ignored/called stupid because people don't like Reach.

OK Thanks, this was helpful

It was an expansion pack, not the full AI.

what did it contain?
The decrypted data from the Babd Catha Forerunner Complex. All sorts of juicy Forerunner information, for example the coordinates of Installation 04.

Except Cortana already had the coordinates to Installation 04 during the battle of Sigma Octanus IV.

Yeah, I agree it wasn't that information. Maybe the last bits of the location or how to access forerunner computers, but not the complete location of Alpha halo.

Maybe whatever info Cortana got will be revealed in Halo 4?I don't think 04 coordinates would be a key to survival unless Halsey could predict the future(covie civil war).

Watch this Halo waypoint video:

Seems lie Cortana still has a secret...who knows what it might be.

Canon issues aside, noble 6 couldnt have stuck Cortana in his head, as he would require upgrades to both his neural implant and armour before directly interfacing with an artificial construct.

I call Godwin's law for Halo:

"As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Reach and The Fall of Reach approaches 1."

In this case exponentially.
Yes.

She didn't. She got the coordinates from analysing Forerunner data as they were making their escape from Reach. In FoR it was the SOIV artifact, but bungie retconned that to be the Babd Catha artifact.

Correct me if I'm mistaken but, fragment or not, wasn't John the only Spartan to receive surgery that would allow him to insert an AI chip in his skull?

Or... It's both!

She got the bulk of the information from the Forerunner artifact, then got the last bit from the Babd Catha structure.

Or, she got the location from the crystal from SOIV, and the information from the Babd Catha forerunner structure allowed her to use it.

He's the only one mentioned, though he got Mark V before the other S2's did.

It's unknown if they got the upgrades (whether it was needed for the AI bit or the Mark V armor in general) or not.

You could assume that it was only him, or only him first as he was the one chosen to carry Cortana during the mission.

I had a thought earlier today that maybe whatever it was under SWORD Base, besides containing some sort of information, is what allowed Cortana to read and understand Forerunner logs or whatever it was she was reading when in Alpha Halo's control room.
