"Concise and devoid of elegance...what I have come to expect from human communication"-Endless Summer

In The Fall of Reach Master Chief was around Reach for the one day(August 30 2552[Military Calendar]) Noble Team was on it for several months prior to N6 joining their team to replace Thom. Also, a good analogy to the story is "The Planet-Wide Flood" most cultures have one, most reports probably have differences about when the actual "Fall" of Reach started/ended. Army says two months, Marine Corps says otherwise. After Reach was proclaimed a "lost cause" Master Chief and Blue Team were deployed to the MP map "Condemned" to retrieve intel that ONI did not want to destroy because of the Cole Protocol(Don't quote me on that) After Master Chief saw Linda get overrun by Jackals he made it back to the Pillar of Autumn [Presumably after Emile and N6 returned the fragment of Cortana that was decoding the Forerunner glyphs]and they used the coordinates on the relic from Cote Azure and arrived at Installation 04A after a week(or two).

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

Master Chief never touched ground during the fall of Reach, him alongside Linda and James were deployed to Gamma station to erase the navigation data from the Circunference, an ONI prowler while Red Team went planet side to defend the SMAC cannons generators.

TL;DR Master Chief wasnt on reach

Could have sworn in the beginning of TFoR he was on the ground (laying mines, 40 megaton surprise etc.) or was that Jericho IV?

bottom line: Chief was only in the system for that one day, Noble was there longer, so that means "Nobles Fall of Reach" was longer than Johns.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

It was Jericho IV, He was on Space when the Fall Of Reach happened.

In its current state TFoR and H:R can't coexist and still make sense. Too many problems with dates and times.

I see two solutions to fix this.

1) Change the dates and times to match H:R. The finished product might be a bit sloppy but its a quick fix.

2) Rewrite TFoR's version of the battle completely. Redo the books events to perfectly fit Reach while adding additional tidbits to make an overall more satisfying battle.

Not everything.

H:R has the covenant and UNSC openly fighting for weeks with the supercarrier destroying ships in orbit. With two fleets showing upat different points in August.

TFoR has the UNSC sitting fleet sitting around doing nothing until they discover the incoming fleet on the 30th.

Unless we're supposed to accept the UNSC just sat around and watched the covenant attack Reach for a month until taking action they don't fit as it is now. Thats why I suggested the changes.

edit: Parts of TFoR is already non canon from previous retcons. Might as well update everything at once. It'll piss off a lot of people but it shouldn't be any worse than it already is.

Signatures are for squares.

What are you guys even talking about.

Chief was on Reach on August 12th(Probably earlier than this too. The PoA returned to Reach weeks before.) That's the day he was driving around in some mountains heading to a UNSC base on Reach's surface. From august 12th onward he was on the surface.

And there was not a single mention of the Covenant being on Reach before August 30th.

Yet that makes absolutely no sense.

"Sir, the Covenant are attacking Reach, what should we do?"

"They're attacking our main military hub? Hmm, I say we wait this one out for about 3 weeks, don't bother telling anyone and (just for the lolz) don't initiate the Cole Protocol."

"Sir?"

"I read the Fall of Reach and decided to make some unnecesary changes for no reason whatsoever. Now go, shoo!"

"What about the Orbital MACs?"

"The Orbital what-now? I thought I told you to go."

"Sir, you're not making sense!"

"Fine, fine. I tell you what, I'll send a group of Spartans nobody has ever heard of who should be dead but went through the process of being pulled out of their companies. Happy now?"

Chief was on Reach August 12, but there was no Covenant invasion yet. The first actual Covenant invasion of Reach occurred on August 14.

Why do people like you always assert that something could not have happened?

Also, no-ones really saying MC "touched" the ground of reach, but that he was on the POA when it picked up the other half of cortana.

Go on the Halo wiki and look at the article "fall of reach" It perfectly intwines the game with the novel.

There was only 20 orbital macs ( i think), They were probably in more important areas of reach, I don't think some farm land is worth pertecting.

I think there must have been covie scout teams on reach even before then.

Yes, only after using the changes I mentioned above and since no version of TFoR has those changes that article is about as useful as fan fiction. Until that article or something similar is made official we are stuck with two incompatible versions of the same event.

All 20 were in a single location as well.

People -blam!- at them not shooting down the LNOS or showing up in that mission? Well it's literally called the Long Night of Solace was on the other side of the planet from the super-macs.

Might be a little mean, but it is.

I mean, The fall of Reach was written as the halo story bible was just being made. Many, many things have been added to it.

True. TFoR obviously went into greater detail and had better characters (but this is far easier to achieve in a book) but the whole idea that reach fell in such a short time is not logical at all.

Reach is far more realistic and far more logical in terms of the dates and whatnot

Honestly, that's all that has been changed with the book. The battle part. That is... what, the last chapter?

Besides, it always can fall under the oh so typical military viewpoints.

To the commander, it fell in a day. To the footsoldier, it fell after a week.

The Fall of Reach focused entirely on the Space battle of the 30th (which is when the Thel's fleet arrived.) Halo Reach focuses on Noble Team, and some of the ground battles which were known to happen, but details were not.

How is it not realistic? The Covenant outnumbered, and outclassed, the UNSC. Reach falling in a day sounds very realistic.
