You need a new computer, seriously.

Video Cards for PCI are few-and-far-between nowadays.

Does your motherboard have PCI Express or AGP? It would be a lot easier to help you if we knew that.

It's a Dell/Intel Socket 478 propriatary motherboard, if you look closely, the AGP slot was once there, but was then removed; the BIOS was also changed.

It's as if Dell didn't want you to be able to upgrade it.

pci sucks unless its pci express, anyway i would reccomend getting a new computer. Dont get a dell i hate those things. so instead of spending money on a computer which is even worse than mine go and buy a new one if you have the money.

Two things. First, get a Pentium for God's sake! Celerons aren't designed for gaming at all. Second, go to Tiger Direct, it's an online computer store. And if you want a new computer (which I strongly recommend) get an AMD Athlon processor, and some PCI Express slots.

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

The first one you posted(on newegg) is basically the best card you can get.
It should run HL2 reasonable well with the graphics settings turned down because HL2 was made to even run on Dx7 cards.
Don't get fooled by the Geforce 5700LE cards. The "LE" basically stands for CRAP.
The 5500 is the best you can get right now.
I will warn you though, it probably won't run CoD2 that well.

thanks aj, i just ordered it with a new mouse. *cant wait : )* anyway, i am looking at an Intel Pentium 4 3.2E Prescott 800MHz FSB Socket 478 Processor Model BX80546PG3200E for $232 and a Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ST3200822A 200GB 7200 RPM IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive. what do u think? i have a dell 2400 and CANT get a new comp. under ANY circumstances. i am just trying to get a decent mid-range gaming computer for games like HL2, CSS, CoD 1+2,and, obviously, halo.

Why CAN'T you get a new computer?

The Video Card you bought is crap, it won't run Half Life 2 all that well, and Halo will have you stuck at 800x600 res.

If you're going to buy a P4 that runs at 3.2 ghz then you better buy a new heatsink/fan and Arctic Silver 5 for it. I have a P4 running at 3.0 ghz and it's usual temp is about 54C, a decent temp for it would be ~36C.

And adding to what Mr B said, you will be better off saving for a new computer but don't buy it from Dell, Gateway or HP, just build one yourself. You'll save yourself some money doing it that way.

okay, i understand that this may not be the best setup, but what happens when i overclock the GeForce card? my friend has a similar setup and he can play CoD 2 no lag.

It will either...
A) crash and burn
B) work but will run at higher temps which should be kept as low as possible
C) work then give you error messages sometimes

Look, you've said you cannot buy/build a new pc. Yet you've already spent near $100 on a new video card, gotten a new mouse, and are planning to get a $230 processor.

Save your money - don't throw it away on what you've got now. If you do, you're going to be in this same spot very soon. If you don't want to listen and what to pump money into an outdated pc, that's fine.
