And why were they bad? I'd like a legitimate explanation for what made some of the maps "bad" for higher-level gameplay.

I don't need the obvious explained like Orbital or Epitaph. But what about High Ground or Isolation?

isolation was a misrable failure because of the smallness of the map itself. And if you happened to go into forge mode and dropped a banshee. You could only fly so high before your banshee was oblitirated. Why bungie? Why? You could have made isolation, but bigger. And I think I speak for everyone when I say that.

High ground I cant remember because I have not played halo 3 multiplayer in a while.

Isolation
Assembly
Ghost Town
Foundry (basic version)
Sandbox (basically all the MM versions except Workplace Bravo, Utah Mambo, and whichever one was in the sky)
Avalanche (too damn big, awful recreation of sidewinder)
EDIT: Cold Storage too, new I was forgetting something

I actually liked Epitaph. HG wasn't a bad map itself, just a horrific weapon placement. Should've been either two snipers on the map or none at all.

Apart from Isolation becoming dominated by the Regen, I didn't mind the map. It was symmetrical and had goodish incentives.

As for High ground it was frustrating as hell to push up because of Dynamic spawns. If you tryied to make a push the opostition would spawn behind you so you were better of to camp your side. High ground should really only have been in Asymmetric gametypes.

Snowbound, have never liked this map and I never will.

Hated base camping, the abundance of shield door abuse, and the lack of any decent ways to move about the map.

Sandtrap could have been amazing in Halo 2, but in Halo 3 without hitscan, it just lead to frustration after frustration unless you were host. Great sniping map though.

I always had trouble sniping on sandtrap. It seemed my shots were just a split second late every time. Maybe I just never had host, idk.

Guardian - horribly one sided and just turns into a camp-off between Blue/Gold and Snipe Tower/Green

Tundra - once someone has grabbed snipe there's no real motivation to move from your starting spawns. Nearly every game of doubles I've played on this map just entails people sitting in their bases.

Cold Storage - horribly one sided/camptacular.

Narrows - was good (still is in MLG) but is ruined for default by dynamic spawns. Bungie -blam!- this map up good and proper.

I dislike many of the smaller maps because of how easily you can get spawn killed. It may be traditional fast gameplay but for ranked purposes its really annoying when you spawn in the middle of the opposing team.

Bad maps for me?

Citadel
Heretic
Narrows (Too many grenades)
Foundry (Unbalanced map)
Guardian (Don't hate me, good spawn usually equals win)
Default sandbox

Thats about it for me. I think the rest are good and its about being a good player/team.

Orbital, Epitaph, Snowbound, Isolation, Blackout, Ghost Town, High Ground, Rat's Nest, Assembly, Longshore, Sandtrap and Cold Storage all sucked hard.

In my opinion:

Isolation.
Sandtrap.
High ground.
Last resort.
All of the Sanbox varients.

I like most of the maps.

Narrows is a fun map to play but they really ruined the spawns.

Guardian is just horrible.

High Ground is as bad as Orbital with the spawns.

Epitaph was boring but they fixed it with Epilogue.

Cold Storage is awesome.

Blackout is built for campers.

Sandtrap/Avalanche - should be removed from snipers.

Why do you continue to reference Halo 3 in the past. Many people still play it!

High ground has terrible spawns. Sandtrap is to big for 3v3 or 4v4's and comes up in snipes.

The maps in H3 are 100 times better than Reach.

I personally thought Isolation was "bad" because of the Ghost. Whoever had the Ghost dominated the whole match. I'm not even very good at Halo and I was once on a Rampage (which is amazing for me, not sure about anyone else).

Personally for me, there were maps I hated when Halo 3 was still the newest Halo game out. I used to love the Pitt, Vahalla, and High Ground. I loathed Snowbound. And Isolation was also annoying. I was never a fan of Longshore either. But as time went on, the levels now have that nostalgic effect on me. Except for Longshore. Still not a fan. So if I had to say a terrible map, I'd probably say Longshore. I didn't and still don't like the aesthetics of the map.

The only one I can explain is High Ground (which used to be my favorite map until I searched ranked TS for a few weeks)
