Subject: Why don't Spartans need to the scope to their face to use it?

I always thought that their mask automatically linked to it digitally, and allowed them to see through the scope without having to manually put it to their face. I refuse to accept that Bungie would be too lazy to put in the animation for looking down a sniper scope, that's just silly, it would be so easy, there's none for the character model or the hud, and on the hud it just snaps to a digital looking scope view, so that's where I got my idea from. If anyone knows exactly why Bungie does this, whether it be lore related or gameplay related, please tell me! It bothers me.

You answered your own question.

Really? Oh cool.

  • 04.27.2011 11:33 AM PDT

Though I still think it would be cool if Halo 4 introduced a select few non-scoped guns with iron sights that Master Chief had to put up to his face instead, which would use the same button as the scope button. Remember the sub machine gun? So like, you would press the scope button but instead of autolinking, the Chief would do Call of Duty, but it would only be for some guns that had ironsights, so it wouldn't make a huge difference.

That wouldn't work at all. Holding down the right stick whilst trying to move and shoot would be very annoying.

No, you press it once and...wtvr, no you would use a different button! Like, the left top one closest to you, I'm sure we won't be seeing armor abilities with master chief around.

I don't like that idea.

I do...

Well if there was going to be a couple iron sight guns in Halo, what would you're idea be. I'm not asking if you like the iron sight idea.

Most weapons don't even have iron sights since even the Marines and the grunts have neural implants to have a HUD, only the shotgun, spiker, smg and automag have iron sights.

But WHY do they have ironsights then?! And how does the crosshair stand so still when you're moving around or sprinting?

could you stop asking such stupid -blam!- questions? Halo is a -blam!- game series. If they followed what's more realistic than what's more suitable with gameplay, it would be too complicated to do, and it would be a terrible game that no one would want to play. Question answered?

Also I know you didn't ask but, when you get MRK6 in halo 2, it supports 2 guns at the same time, the HUD, is part of your visor. Its also why noble 6 duel wields with 2 guns with his helmet off.

What the -blam!- do you think this forum is for, Sparty Boy? Yes, that's right: questions. Discussions. All that good stuff. Stop reading it if you can't take people asking questions.

Btw, very few weapons actually have iron sights. They all rely on neural implants, scopes, homing projectiles or advanced visors. You'd think the UNSC would put iron sights on atleast the standard Assault Rifles that are used by everyone, whom I refuse to think have neural implants. The majority, yes. But not everyone. Too expensive for the UNSC.
The crosshairs standing still is purely a matter of gameplay. Making the player cameras shake when sprinting, rolling down and up again when evading etc. would be looots of extra work for the animators at Bungie.

Still, Bungie takes Halo pretty seriously, there should be a reason the crossair stands so still despite the spartan moving, maybe they are trained to hold it at a certain angle so it matches with the crosshair? I mean, no matter where you look, he brings the gun right under you.

  • 04.27.2011 4:12 PM PDT

We are given the ability to run at full speed while using scopes. The animation would like very unnatural and uncomfortable if the Spartan/Elite had to put their face up to the scope while running full speed.

  • 04.27.2011 4:19 PM PDT

That is also the best position to reduce recoil.

Because why not add iron sights? And why in the hell would your HUD move while running?

  • 04.27.2011 9:30 PM PDT

"Concise and devoid of elegance...what I have come to expect from human communication"-Endless Summer

HUD moving ala Metroid Prime would be annoying as -blam!- without a Wii mote/Kinect/move (Please don't make Halo motion controlled)

Am I supposed to write something funny here?

Atleast the normal SMG, all shotguns and M6C/SOCOM have iron sights in them. But they also have the smart-linking stuff, so if you have MJOLNIR or ODST helmet, like we have always had (taking helmet off in ODST's firefight doesn't count, atleast to me), it doesnt matter. Marines and troopers also have glasses or that eyepatch, so I think iron sights are there just in case.
