I just got Halo 2 for Windows Vista from a friend of mine, and when I go to install it, I'm getting a lot of grief from Windows Live.

I install the game, then try to play it. As soon as I get to the main screen and enter (as in the screen where it says Press Any Key to Start) Windows Live pops up. I enter my info and try to sign in, and it says it's downloading my account. It goes much quicker than it does on my 360, which already sets off some alarms in my head. It later told me it didn't download my account correctly and I'd have to reinstall, but that's not the main problem.

After I "sign in" it tells me I have an update to download. I click download and it takes me to my desktop, then to the install wizard. It "installs" the update, then restarts Halo 2.

Then it all starts over COMPLETELY.

Windows Live doesn't remember me ever playing the game and starts up again like it's the first time I'm running the game. It then tries to get me to sign in, then install the same update again. I've done this multiple times and it continues to follow the same pattern over and over. I can't even play the game or get past the main screen because Windows Live keeps pestering me about an update, BUT DOESN'T ACTUALLY UPDATE ANYTHING!

Anybody else ever have this problem? Know any solutions?

This is the average H2 Fanboy.
Xfire: JacobGRocks.
50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

Download the update at gamesforwindows.com.

I did that already, it didn't even show that I downloaded it once I loaded the game up.

Download the game update at HaloMaps or the h2v site.

Strange that it doesn't download your account properly. That could be the reason why the updates are giving you problems. Maybe you could try making a new XBOX Live account with a separate email address. Then open H2V and sign into Games for Windows Live with the new account.

If you still cannot download your account information properly then I would be inclined to guess that you might have a network problem of some sort.

turn of UAC....... that thing kills the update process. Then also make sure that the game, windows live app, etc are allowed in through the firewall.... :)

also the update thing, takes like 5 times to do its thing lol

If all else fails, get the game Tinker (its free on the windows live market place) it uses live and that should download your account. then go into halo 2 vista and try to sign in there.

I found that it would not recover my account until all of the updates had been downloaded. You just have to repeat the process until GFWL has downloaded all the updates.

Halo Waypoint Stats

I downloaded it here with the other patches from the game and it works fine. (go to support)
