Subject: SPI variations?

I started up the heated debate on whether the SPARTAN-II in the cryo tube near the end of Reach is really Linda.

Just curious, does anybody here think that there are variations of the SPI armor?
Since there's variations of the ODST and MJOLNIR armor (Mk IV-VI) it would make sense for there to be SPI variations. Yes I know that SPI armor is cheap (but obviously more expensive than ODST armor.)
I highly doubt that all of the S-IIIs (without the MJOLNIR) looked like this.

SPI Armor

Two variants, Mark I and Mark II.

Off Topic: I have noticed you have been posting a lot recently, just saying.

I'd say that the only changes would be between Mk. I and II and that's it. I can't imagine any variants being made seeing as the idea was cost effectiveness. It is likely all Spartan IIIs within their respective companies wore the same armour. The book never implies otherwise. And SPI would be much more expensive that ODST armour, just significantly cheaper than MJOLNIR.

that's models, like Mark IV, V, and VI.
Variations would be like Recon, Security, HAZOP, etc.
I figured that there would be simple variations. Here's the sniper variation I'm working on.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

It's a shame SPI wasent used beyond the Spartan III program. I'm sure elite strike teams of ODST's could have put the suits to great use.

If the best of the S-IIIs get MJOLNIR armor, then why not? I could imagine a elite group of ODSTs that have SPI armor. Maybe in the testing phase.

Sounds plausible. ODST's would do great in field-testing the new additions and especially the photo-reactive panels.

Even if they were expendable, they still were expensive to an extent. Besides, Have you read Fall of Reach? When Marines tried on the MJOLNIR armor they have their bones break with ease. I am certain the SPI would have similar results.

Semi-powered, it has power to run the electronics and what not but does not enchance movement. It would be safe for un-augmented users.

Wrong. SPI armor dosent boost the Spartan III's strength nor reaction time like MJLONIR did with the Spartan II's.

Basicly, anyone with military training, and perhaps without, could use SPI armor.

I think I remember somewhere in Ghosts of Onyx it was stated that SPI can be used by anybody. It doesn't require a machine or assistance to be put on, and it's significantly lighter. It doesn't give the user any more strength or speed.

No it wouldn't, it was clearly stated that SPI could be worn by normal humans.

My bad. MY BAD! I misread something.

Although my first point still stands, it is still far more expensive than the standard ODST battle dress, add to the fact that it is still considered "experimental" and was "developed" strictly for the Spartan III's.

I doubt it would ever reach the other branches of the UNSC with so little time. Waste of money if you ask me.

Thats what we thought about Mark V until reach came along.

There are of course exceptions. Mark V began development in 2542, Reach was in 2552, With only 28 Spartan II's around the time Reach fell, I'm sure there were a few extra sets considering the Spartan II's always have to replace their armor pieces from time to time.
