I started up the heated debate on whether the SPARTAN-II in the cryo tube near the end of Reach is really Linda.
I created the Moa XING avatar pic.

If I'm right, the only Spartans to recieve Mark VI are:
Fred
Linda
William
John
This isn't counting the prototype worn by Team Black.
So Class-I received their Mark V in July 2552 and the 4 listed above recieve the Mark VI a little bit over a month later.
Of course one could say that the Mark V has been ready for a while since Noble recieved theirs in 2551.
Anyway it seems so sudden that the new generation of MJOLNIR came out so soon. It took nearly 25 years to get the next set out and then just a year later for the next?

My point is, there must have been a total of 32 sets of Mark V made total before the Fall of Reach. (26 S-IIs total for Reach, 6 for Noble (including Thom)
So I'm guessing the purhcase for Mark VI was made before the Fall of Reach. So we can guess that all Mark VIs are on Earth. Now I'm guessing that there must have been 31 sets made. That is if though, Noble Team was to recieve Mark VI.
Anyway since Reach's fal occured so soon, we can guess that the Mark VIs may have already been made, or most of them already made.
So what I'm wondering is.......what happened to the rest of the Mark VIs?
I mean it could be somewhat possible that Kurt had some of them given to some S-IIIs like Rosenda, but that is only if they were as big as S-IIs. S-II MJOLNIR is bigger than S-III MJOLNIR.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

The armor is the same size, the only thing that changes is the form-fitting under suit.

Back on topic, the Mark VI was already in development while the Mark V was still not released, a team in Seongnam began to work on its own prototype of MJOLNIR while Mark V was in development and gave the prototype to Black team, this prototype eventually became the Mark VI.

They probably did the whole set of armors for every Spartan but it was most likely lost or never used due to the Covenant being defeated.

btw, Kelly never got Mark VI ^_^

*Sigh* if your going to spam threads atleast talk about cryptum or something interesting. and if your going for a member title it also recognizes the average length of your post. so write a good page or something.

Pre covenant spartans wore Mark IV, Mark V came out later with after adjustments mainly the new shields.

After 20 years of improvements Mark VI Came out and naturally i assume they only made enough for the spartans that were confirmed to be alive.

The armor noble team got wasn't saved for them or anything like that.

Linda never got Mark VI since Halsey "kidnapped her." I think Kelly recieved it.

Anyway it seems so sudden that the new generation of MJOLNIR came out so soon. It took nearly 25 years to get the next set out and then just a year later for the next?

Halsey explains in her jounal that ONI wanted project MJOLNIR's progression through models to be done in stages, as in only a finished product would be fielded, for annual budgety beaurocratic reasons. Halsey worked around this by having the Mk. outline but she also kept adding updates in between the release of each Mk.

Mk. VI was being worked on all along, hence it's quick release.

My point is, there must have been a total of 32 sets of Mark V made total before the Fall of Reach. (26 S-IIs total for Reach, 6 for Noble (including Thom)
What about Echo, Gauntlet, Headhunters and N6? There would be a small surplus of suits and parts exta.

So I'm guessing the purhcase for Mark VI was made before the Fall of Reach.
Purchase?

So we can guess that all Mark VIs are on Earth.
Parts for M. VI were on Reach. Red Team received upgrades for their Mk. V from Halsey there.

Now I'm guessing that there must have been 31 sets made. That is if though, Noble Team was to recieve Mark VI.
Again, your numbers seem to low. Noble got V, no reason to assume they wouldn't get VI.

Anyway since Reach's fal occured so soon, we can guess that the Mark VIs may have already been made, or most of them already made.
So what I'm wondering is.......what happened to the rest of the Mark VIs?

Presumably in storage on Earth. seeing as there were alot less Spartans at the time than anticipated.

I mean it could be somewhat possible that Kurt had some of them given to some S-IIIs like Rosenda, but that is only if they were as big as S-IIs. S-II MJOLNIR is bigger than S-III MJOLNIR.
First of all, MJOLNIR is a standard size and is form-fitting to the user. They are not custom made as far as I'm aware, except in extreme cases (Jorge and Sam[?]). Secondly, Noble Team are the same height as the Chief, an average Spartan II. Jorge is abnormally large, even for a Spartan, hence the larger armour.

You got it backwards, Kelly was the one kidnapped by Halsey.

Haha! Don't encourage him. we'll end up with discussions on what Forerunner armour looks like and if they can hold their breath longer than humans.

Headhunters recieved SPI with energy shields. That's not Mark VI.
Also we don't exactly know what Gauntlet and Echo are made up of. We can only speculate.
Also those parts that Halsey gave to Fred and the rest were never stated to be Mark VI. It could just be variations like Security, Recon and such for the Mark V.
Also Noble Six most likely got his Mark V when he just arrived at Reach.

Would you rather talk about that or reserves of Mark V armor?

I rest my case, and i think forerunners can hold their breath longer because i assume they have bigger lungs since they are 13 feet tall.

SPI by it's very nature cannot have energy shields. Semi-Powered i.e. not fully powered, not enough to run shields. And I'm not suggesting they had Mk. VI, they had Mk. V.

Also we don't exactly know what Gauntlet and Echo are made up of. We can only speculate.Jun or Kat, can't remember, flat out states they are Spartans.

They were upgrades, not variants. It says so in First Strike.

Also Noble Six most likely got his Mark V when he just arrived at Reach.
Why would Ackerson not have made sure his "personal grim reaper" wouldn't have the best gear? In any case we will never know either way on this one.

Good point. And the holding their breath thing was just an example. Of course they can hold it longer. Yet another mystery solved. :P

Wasn't the Chief the only one to receive Mk.VI as it has the upgrades to include AI, or do all Spartans have an integrated AI?

No, not all Spartans have a integrated AI. Team Black did use the AI of their ship. Red Team (Spirit of Fire) did communicate with Serina. Chief is the only known Spartan to be integrated with a AI.
BTW Chief wasn't the only one to recieve Mark VI. Read my OP for the complete list of Spartans to recieve it.

Since Ghosts Of Onyx and the novel/comic/book starring Black Team were released.

So first off then, where does it say in Ghosts of Onyx that Blue Team possessed Mk VI armor?

Second off Black Team doesn't use Mk VI. Appearance wise yes it bears similarities to Mk VI, but it wasn't Mk VI armor.

The MJOLNIR BLACK prototype became the Mark VI for your information, and every Spartan II that survived the Fall of Reach received a set of Mark VI upon his/her return to earth.

Recognize the armor in the back?

Key word "became". I'm aware that the technology in their armor was the precursor to upgrades that would come with the Mk VI, but that hardly makes it the Mk VI itself which is what I'm seeking factual evidence on.

As for the cover, how does it correlate to Blue team specifically? Book covers are made to depict anything and everything that can catch a consumer's eye rather than depict any scene in a book. Artistic license... My question is, as you've quoted, "where does it say in Ghosts of Onyx that Blue Team possessed Mk VI armor?", and showing me a cover does not answer that question.

The Spartans depicted in the cover of Ghosts of Onyx are Blue Team, from left to right: Kelly (still in Mark V since she was "kidnapped by Halsey and thus, never made it back to earth."), either Linda, Will or Fred and then Kurt in his SPI armor.

I will scroll through my Ghosts of Onyx book and I will see if I can give you a page.

  • 04.28.2011 12:59 AM PDT

Red Team in/under CASTLE base upgraded their Mk V with some equipment slated for use in the Mk VI. Where they also found the weapons cache. (First Strike)

When Red Team was returned to Earth they were equipped with brand new Mk VI armour.

Kelly still had Mk V appearance wise, but underneath had some Mk VI improvements.
