This is the script written for the Halo movie by Alex Garland who was hired by Microsoft to write in 2005. Sorry if it is old.

If you want more information, here is the Halopedia article for the film.

What do you think?

A flaw int he script I noticed is that it made Grunts seem much larger than they are supposed to be when it first described them, it described them as being the size of gorillas...am I the only one who read it that way? Or did I misread it?

They really shouldn't make a Halo movie. It'll end up being a dumbed-down action movie, because that is what the main demographic wants.

Agreed. An hour and a half of the MC effortlessly gunning down covenant by the dozens isn't that appealing to me. If they don't find a really good director and producer who gives a damn about the project the movie could easily turn into Rambo 2552.

Ok, I thought the script said that...Grunts aren't really gorilla sized though, they're like half the height of the average human >_>

Gorillas must have turned into midgets by 2552 then.

"What do you hear?"
"Nothing but the rain."
"Then grab your gun and bring in the cat."
"Boom, boom, boom!"

Grunts are anywhere from three to five feet tall.

"Find where the liar hides, so that I may place my boot between his gums!" - Rtas 'Vadum

I do not have time to read the whole thing right now, but at the end why is Silva Floodified and killing Foehammer, and then John/Cortana escaping in a Pelican?

Some big liberties have been taken in only 2 pages.

It isn't based on pure Canon, It's plot mainly comes from The Flood but of course there must be changes. I hate it too.

Heck, they could make 2 movies just based on events before they even discover halo.

One from the beginning of the Spartan-II project, up to and ending with the events surrounding first contact with the covenant. At first the main enemy appears to be the insurrectionists, as that is who the spartans and johnson (the co main character) are fighting for a lot of it, but the last third of the movie is soley about johnson training the militia and responding to the covenant on Harvest (contact harvest).

A second that begins with the UNSC's first real response to the covenant. Follows the spartans, cole, halsey, keyes and the rest of the UNSC as billions of humans are killed throughout the 27 year war. Ending with the climactic battle of reach, and the discovery of Halo just as the credits roll. Bit of a tragic film, as we are led to believe that all the spartans besides one are dead (the deaths of fred and co are handled in such away that it seems like they died but the viewer really cant be sure).

It certainly did take quite a few liberties, like it completely left out Johnson, made it seem like they killed Cortana, messed with the layout of Halo...I could probably go into much more detail, but I won't. If there is going to be a Halo movie I do not want this script :/

Ever read Mr. Vociferous' Script?

that would make one hell of a movie.

EDIT: Oh god that was absolutely awful. let me dig up the Vociferous Script. that is how it should be made.

Here

So much better than that crap I just read.

WOW! Now this script is GOOD! I liked it a lot more, and it seemed more smooth.

Sangheili Major: "Brute ships. Staggered line! Shipmaster, they outnumber us, three-to-one!"

I know right? that's the best script I've ever read. Mr. Garlands was absolute garbage compared to this.

I couldn't agree more. I just read a few pages and I love it so far, much better than Garland's.

To be honest i feel like they should kinda do a reverse start wars and start with the Ancient humanity and forerunners. this way we know that the beginning will be accurate as possible since that is the area that would be messed up the most.

I completely agree but due to the fantastic settings and nature of everything Forerunner would it not be better done as an animation?

still, it has a number of problems with it even in the first three pages. why do these guys have to change so many details? why can't they just stick with what was in the original material?

I think Garland's isn't bad perse, but I am liking this other one much more so far (partly because of Johnson's presence ^^ teehee). I haven't gotten the chance to read much yet though.

I also really like the fact that the writer put Thel in too, sqeeeee, and Half-Jaw too, eeeeeee ^_^ And if this script is used to actually make a movie it could be explored what information was in the Artifact under SWORD base ad Thel thinks the Humans know something about Halo that the Covenant do not.

All in all I think this script is much better by far than Garland's and more in line with what Bungie would do. Yes, this isn't a perfect replication of CE either, but it was much more in tune with the spirit of the game and its over all plot, none of the changes were too drastic and improved the story, imo. I think if they incorporated a few elements from the Flood I think it would be even better, such as when the Marines returned to the Autumn to get supplies, but really, I think this script would be a really good building block or foundation for any eventual movie. It was very well written and including events/elements that link Halo:CE to the other two installments of the Trilogy (specifically Halo 2) made it all the better.

Actually this script changed very, very, very little. I think the only really big change was Chief being sucked out of cryo and having to climb back into the Autumn. And that was a change for the better if you ask me, as it established an early connection to Johnson and introduced us to the friendship he and Chief share. All in all, the script in question here would be a very good foundation for an actual script if this particular one was not used.

Hey, now!

This is officially either the greatest or worst thing to ever happen to Star Wars. I'm going with the former.

I've read a little of both so far, and they both have their good points, though I do prefer Vociferous's script. It seems more true to the game in both setting and dialogue.

Grunts are 150cm tall. Gorilla Gorilla males are 160-170cm tall and females are 120-140cm tall. Both Grunts and Gorillas have similar body structures with a bulky body and giant arms. It's a pretty good comparison.

The gorilla sized grunts? They are only 5'2.
