So if the Master Chief and the remaining Spartans II survive, what would they do after retirement?

I say, they would become Military Instructors, training the new generation of UNSC Marines and ODST's or maybe new Spartan candidates. (if ever that would come?).

What would you think the Spartans do after retirement if they survive?

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

I think Chief would travel the world alone. On foot.

Some would probably continue to work in the military in some way since thats basically all they know. Others would travel through the colonies to experience what they missed being UNSC blunt intruments all their lives.

We'll bury our burdens in blood...

Lets not forget about Elites. After all their real desires lay in flower arangement and poetry.

"Question. Which Spartan is best?"
"That's a ridiculous question."
"False. Master Chief."
"Well, that's debatable. There are basically two schools of thought."
"Spartans shoot Sangheili. Spartans. Sangheili.....Battle Star Galactica."

Indeed!

Spartans don't retire. They're to expensive to retire. The Navy just keeps on using them until they're outdated and then sell them as scrap metal.

They're not robots. You can't sell flesh and bone as "scrap metal", dumbass.

You don't get the military style humor. I'm treating Spartans as if they're decommissioned Navy ships.

Sorry then, bro.
There are too many children here who actually believe that the Spartans were robots, lmao...

I would assume, as has been stated, that they would be kept in the Military and moved to noncombat roles as instructors, desk jockies, etc.

I would like to say they are too valuable to let go, but they did let go Mariah (I think that was the name.) Though she did stay in the program to an extent by way of testing new armors.

What would be really interesting is to observe what sort of effects all the modifications and drugs have on Spartans as they age. Do their bodies burn out faster leading to a shorter lifespan, or do they keep kicking ass well into their 60s like Sgt. Johnson, a "Spartan I."

i bet MC would train a newer generation of spartans, others desk jobs maybe, strategic leaders, maybe warehouse/ noncombat roles. and farther on possibly out of active service and a "citizen"

I don't think a Spartan would, or could, ever really retire. Once they're no longer fit for combat they're probably be moved into training future Spartans (if more are ever created)or just in training in general. Or they'd be shunted into other positions that they fit such as strategists and other roles that they'd fit. Who knows, some might become tactical advisers on ships in the navy or maybe (unlikely) command their own vessels. I do know that even out of combat they'll still be badass, it's part of being a Spartan. You can take the Spartan out of the fight, but you'll never take the fight out of a Spartan.

most of their time would be spent in cryo to fight another day, but they would probably get out fairly often and do training exercises, provide security, and fight brutes/rebels.

as far as i know there was only 1 spartan who ever retired. i can't remember her name but she was the one who tested the chiefs mark vi armour before he got it on the cairo super mac gun station

The one from the Graphic Novel.

I imagine that when and if the Spartans aren't needed, they would be kept in cryo storage until again required. Besides being a considerable investment, I don't know if they could function in civilian life. They have literally been fighting their whole lives.

The sad side effect of a SPARTAN. They don't know anything but war. They don't have a normal life to return to. They don't even know what a normal life is like.

It's the price of war. SPARTANs can't choose their destiny. No matter what they do, they will always be war machines. Even though they are living beings, the only purpose they'll ever serve is to be killers.

It's wrong. There has to be a better way.

True, depends though. I mean, if there was no more Spartan groups, I think some would actually be tired of the fighting by then. IMO, they'd still have ties to UNSC/ONI and do the random job, but be mostly 'retired'.

Like my one S3 in a rp setting post-Halo 3. She was 'retired' but still worked with ONI some and watched over the rebuilt Reach colony for possible trouble.
