So this Question may be very Stupid, because maybe there are some, but they die too fast :)
In the Covenant there are a lot of purple things like spaceships, ghosts, crates and so on but why are there no Elites in purple armor?

Maybe because purple is for structures and stuff like that. I don't think that the covenant would want everything to be purple. So, they created a tier of Elite ranks that do not include purple. However, on the last mission of Halo Reach, 6 fights a somewhat pinkish purple Field Marshal. It was not strictly purple though, I think more of a lightish purple with some pink thrown in.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

Thel 'Vadam had purple armor when he was a ship/fleet master.

There were purple Elites in Halo 2, I think they were called Ultras. I remember fighting one in the Scarab in the campaign level Metropolis.

Thx for the answer! Probably Bungie thought when the whole covenant would be purple it would look akward...
That's why they look so horrible in Halo wars i think

Im pretty sure he was white/silver. He started growling to the ceiling when I got close and then pulled out an energy sword.

I'm sure I've fought a purple Elite on the Scarab, maybe ultra is the wrong class.

Anyway, here's one purple guy at least:

That's more of a crimson color. Here'sThel 'Vadam on his Supreme Commander armor.

Yeah, I think Usze is more crimson or maroon colored, but there is definitely a little purple tint to his red color (at least in that shot). But really the only purple armor we've seen is Thel's armor from when he was commanding the Fleet of Particular Justice as Snake pointed out.

The color of a Shangheilis armor (like all other species in the Covenant militry) is determined by their rank. The reason why you never see a purple elite is because only Elites of the the Rank of Supreme Commander may have (along with a purple cloak), but they may also choose to wear a golden harness, like Zealots.

They probably have gold harness because Supreme Commander is one of the many subsets of the Zealot rank.

Yeah, so basically it's sort of an informal/formal combination, Purple while doing their designated roles and then Golden when in active duty or with superiors (aka, Thel before being branded in Halo 2)

I wake up to find myself
After all these years
And where all the time has gone
Still seems so unclear

In Halo 2, Special Ops Elites wore dark purple armor.

And again in Halo 3.
