There were 5 out of 6 matches not played due to no-shows. That’s enough for me. Sorry guys!

I made some mistakes setting this up and have learned from them. I WILL be setting up a Maw tournament in the near future and it will be more organized. I will have a website ready before the tournament and will not try to run it thru here.

What I need from you guys is your ideas on how to setup/run it. What format should it use? single elimination, free for all, teams, playoff whatever you can think of? How should the matches be scheduled.? What do we do with no-shows? What about their teammates who did show? How do we prevent/detect cheating and hacking? Post any ideas you have in this thread.

I would like to thank the following people for helping me try to put this together:

AFK_Jman -- Got this tourney posted on the Bungie.net front page. Helped create the teams using a program he coded. Don’t delete that program we’ll be needing it again soon.

Hob – for designing a webpage for the tournament. I didn’t use it but I appreciate what you did. Don’t erase that I may use it for the front page of the website.

Stosh --for putting this on the front page. Sorry it didn’t finish I hope I can get a spot again for the next one.

Oni-Ryu -- for his ideas about how the tourney should be run. I’ll need more of those ideas now.

Forum Ninjas – for on-demand sticky control. I’ll need that next time also.

Regulas021 - for offering his friends website to use when I was looking for a better place to base it from. And for beating the snot out of me and making me remember how much I hate Slayer.

The players that signed up and showed up – gives me hope that a tournament can be successful.

Thanks and stay tuned

I say no teams, cause that just is too messy unless it is organized.

As much fun as a team slayer-single slayer tourney would be, it IS too complex for a first tourney. I agree with Chewy. We can eliminate no-shows without incident if we do 1vs1 all the way through.

i say it would work better if you warned before signup that no-shows will make you automatically lose, and you must contact your team/enemies before the match

this will ensure that everyone in the tourney is actively involved

lol thats pretty smart, BUT like you can make a contract and send to every participants by email, IM service, etc. then they gotta send bak the mail with your name signed on the bottom (typed in this case lol) that will work out pretty well

another idea: on the signup page post the date that the match schedule will be released, and require that all contestants im/email/pm to confirm their match before the match, or they are disqualified

and definitely require xfire... that was a big mistake imo

Contracts are useless unless. What kind of case would you make if someone broke it?

Great, I feel smart. I made another thread about this without looking to see if there was one already.

Anyway, two seperate tourneys, one FFA and one Team Slayer would be a great idea, that way everybody gets to do the gametype they want. Hey, make it three, with one more for the CTF. That would have to be a large style match, there: 8 vs. 8, 4 vs. 4 or something.

My personal favorite would be a one-on-one elimination style tournament. The sound of it makes me nervous, because that's high stakes. It would still be fun, even if it's kind of nerve-wracking going up against some of you really experienced guys.

I'm looking forward to seeing another tournament.

You know, we didn't have to end the tournament because of no-shows, we could have gone for it anyway. Someone who signs up and then doesn't make their match without a good explanation doesn't belong in the tournament anyway, in my opinion. That would have weeded out the less dedicated players. Oh well, it's said and done anyway.

Stupid no-shows...

I think it should be 1 on 1 free-for-all slayer matches that have a 50 or 25 kill limit. As for the problem with the no-shows, I think you shoud have a list for substitute people that came to late. That way, if theres a no-show, you can contact that person and set another time for the match. I also think that the no-show should be given a 20 minutes to show incase they're late, and if they don't, you contact someone on the substitue list depending on the order the substitutes signed up, and if they don't show, then the substitue(s) don't show then person who did show (if anyone shows at all) wins by default.

thats what we did. 5/6 of the first 6 matches were to be rescheduled because one or more person did not show up to the match. this method does not work.
