HEY MODS guess what? This thread doesn't violate any rules on the flood and belongs here...NOT the reach forum. Why? because I'm not talking about Halo Reach, I'm talking about online games in general. Think about that before you decide to lock it for no good reason.

That...

Was unneeded.

Reach needs to be patched. It's the truth.

Indeed. I wish I had a community of friends back during the H2 days.

I can't think of any better system. Every modern online game I've played so far has you level up with experience but you gain experience regardless of whether you win or lose so you aren't going to lose any level. This means that the high levels just play more than others, it doesn't depend on skill.

Halo 2 had it where you had to win a certain amount of games to level up and if you continued to fail, you lose a level. Sure it was almost impossible to get above a level 36 but it was challenging and fun. Halo 3's system was way too easy to level up, being a high level didn't carry much value.

I'm just a bit annoyed sometimes when I expect a player to do good because they are a high level but then find out they flat out suck. Developers need to expand upon the halo 2 ranking system.

Hmmm I'm pretty sure I saw this earlier and didnt care...

Try again, bud.

Why don't you try again because the general point of this topic is not to talk about Halo 2. It's about ranking systems in video games.

  • 04.29.2011 7:05 PM PDT

Yes I make Minecraft texture packs.

Rank never matters.

  • 04.29.2011 7:06 PM PDT

It's based off the ELO chess ranking system.

Microsoft just expanded on that formula.

  • 04.29.2011 7:06 PM PDT

Are mods on here thick headed or what? Sorry guys, I meant to post this in the Flood forum but for some reason it got moved here because I mentioned Halo 2. Bunch of idiots. I'm comparing Halo 2's ranking system to the ranking systems in other games.

My brother and his friends had to bridge themselves host around the high 30's in order to prevent cheaters, such as standbyers and team standbyers. Anything above 37 is nothing but cheating.

This is actually the stupidest thing ever posted on B.net:

Why does everyone hate Halo 2? Maybe its because its the worst game ever next to mario.

Rank mattered in Halo 2 in 2004-early 2007. After the release of Halo 3 the Halo 2 ranked playlists was flipped upside down by cheaters (circle boosters and host booters). Halo 3 is now going through the same after-phase Halo 2 went through now that Reach is the mainstream game.

I'm pretty sure Halo 2 didn't have host booters. Nothing more then Modders, Standbyers, Team Standbyers, and circle boosters.

I can tell you from experience that Halo 2 DID have host booters, especially 2008-2010. I would be hit offline and held offline for a good while when competing at the high levels of ranked playlists. Noting but low life losers that now infest the Halo 3 servers.

I'm sure Halo 2 had host boosters too. Mostly everyone knew that the host had advantage in a game so people would most definitely find a way to manipulate the system to become host. I stopped playing Halo 2 after about 2006 so I never experienced the ranked playlists when it went to hell but I did go through modding, standbying, etc.

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

H2 DID have hostbooters along with standbyers and Xbox Modders (Like JTAGS in Reach)

Definitely, I think the OP has a record of multiple run-ins with moderators.

Halo 3 is a skill based ranking system and so is Halo Wars. I'm sure there are other games too.

Being a high level in H2 definitely meant more than in H3 but a high level(50) in H3 still meant something. I think the main problem with H3's is that it didn't show the skill gap among 50's which was considerable. There were some pretty bad 50's even though they were legit.

And whenever you talk about a skill based ranking system you have to ignore all the cheaters. Saying a rank is meaningless just because you can cheat for it is stupid, as most people don't cheat for it.

Hoorah! Sorry, I'm just celebrating an intelligent post, they are few and far between. You got your points across with no flaming, name calling, no herp derp or any disparagingly snide remark.

So I thank your civility.

lol, I have my bad moments too.

Yes. I am a Battle Rifle machine. The DMR is a poor replacement.

I hear the Halo 2 ranking system is hard.

Skill is, always has been, and always will be much more important than some stupid rank. None of that will ever change.
