Subject: Spartan Armor Variants?

My Grandfather was a Desert Ranger, my Father was a Veteran Ranger in the NCR. My father was killed by Caesar's Legion and they took my Brother. It's now my responsibility to uphold the mantle of the Rangers and avenge my Father and find my Brother.

Are the Spartan armor variants canon or not? Or do they just wear the regular mark 5 and 6?

canon. I'd say they're just designs/prototypes that haven't been widely used.

Each armor variant improves certain areas. Original armor could do anything the other variants could, but the other armors are designed for specific jobs. Like eva improves your effectiveness in space, while CQB gives you a better performance in tight situations.

However, in game, armor does nothing its just for show.

It's canon, but not very widespread, most used the traditional MJORNIL armor.

i bet all those variants were used mostly for very specific missions/spartans

If anything Noble Team confirms that all the variants on the Spartan armor we've seen are canon. I'd say Halo Legends does as well. Most Spartans do wear the standard version, especially the IIs, but all those other armor variants are indeed canon, they're probably not just used for Spartans though, as Dare wears a Recon helmet and the Marines toward the end of Reach where the Military Police helmet.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

Didn't Kurt wear an EVA helmet during the mission were he supposedly "died"?

The variants in Reach are not official "variants" at all. They are field modifications made my NOBLE team. Dr Halsey specifically states this in her journal. She in fact protests, saying she made MJOLNIR modular so field modifications were not needed.

Helmets are cannon, however a few are redundant, half are non MJOLNIR standard and the remaining 6-7 are cannon variants. Non MJOLNIR standard explains how Kat was killed, she was wearing a sub-standard Army helmet.

Shoulder peices are non cannon, based on the fact that the renaming of similar types from 3-to-beta-to-reach suggests they were created with no specific purpose and serve only a gameplay element. Redundant helmet variants also fall into this category.

No, just no. Kat died because of a series of events that culminated in her death. She took more time to get to the elevator, she had to press the button twice because it didn't respond at first and then she made the dire mistake of not turning on her shields.

Actually, the shields were down due to the radiation flair, not because they were turned off.

Yes, just yes. MJOLNIR has been shown to stop BR rounds at point blank (Cole Protocol), the needle hit the titanium armoured part of her helmet, it would never had penetrated unless it was sub-standard armour.

About me: I am a vicious wolf of a man.

But really am sweet at heart. =)

They probably wore different variants of armor for different situations, just like you won't use a sniper rifle in an CQC situation you wouldn't want an EVA helmet in MOUT.

The Air Assault helmet was designed as an improvement to the ODST helmet, which was also designed to function with MJOLNIR armor, so I don't see how can it be sub-standard if it was designed for the armor.

"The ODST BDU has been in use for well over 50 years" which means it came into service roughly 2502.
MJOLNIR started development 2512 and came into service 2525.

MJOLNIR was designed to function with current systems, but is a significant improvement. To be honest, I dont see humans being able to carry the same weight of helmet a SPARTAN can. Doesn't make much sense.

And she missed the button the first time due to temp blindness cause she looked back when the glassing beam activated.

Anyway, there is NO proof of any pieces the Noble Team used are substandard. Kinda proof against it because would ONI field a MJOLNIR using team if anything wasn't the best?

Like How we have proof that Emile's skull does not affect vision. If it did, command would have given him a new helm.

I'm not quite certain what you're saying in here :/ And what helmets would you say are redundant? They all seem unique to me.

By non Mjolner standard do you mean that they were a helmet used by other military personnel first, such as the ODST or Military Police helmets?

Meh, I would say the shoulder pieces can all be canon just as easily as non canon, as some at least serve a certain function or would be better suited to a certain position on a team. Like quite a few look like they'd be used by a demolitionist or someone who is meant to take and withstand a lot of fire.

You mean like the one you posted that was about the Battle of Reach and talked about the Fleet of Particular Justice being the second Covenant fleet to come to Reach, first being the one the at jumps in at the end of Long Night of Solace.
